What if Phil takes the Vandy job?
How weird of an SEC would that be?
What world do you live in? The University had barely any coaching changes for thirty years, only to fire a national championship winning coach, who also played at said university, for an unproven coach from the West Coast that bolted after the first season. I have been watching $hit football for 4 years because of his antics.
Oct. 25 is when Kiffin comes to town. You can't honestly say that this game is not meaningful to this fan base or to a coach who must prove that he can field a team that can beat a national title competitor. It just is.
I would give my season tickets this year for every belly sucking fan like you to put your breath into another team.
Go Vols.
I hate to tell you this, but we've been watching $hit football for the better part of 8 years. The schedule just wasn't as brutal in Fulmer's last years as it is now. His last few records and schedules were comparable to the last couple of years at Vanderbilt under Franklin. What world do you live in? We haven't competed with Alabama but one time (Kiffin 2009) since Saban arrived in 2007. That is 1 year out of 7 that we have been within less than 20 points of them.I don't see what's so terrible about being grounded in the reality that Bama is still miles ahead of us. Sure, it sucks, but it's where we are now. Barring some disaster where the recruiting class falls apart in the next month, which I doubt will happen, we're going to make up some ground on them this year from a talent perspective, but we haven't competed with them in 4 years, and won't have the roster to do it this coming fall either. Hopefully that'll start to change by 2015.
Can't wait to see the Chief make him pout and cry like a baby when they face LSU.
The truth is a bit hard to stomach for some. You have to first admit that you have a problem, in order to fix it.I don't see what's so terrible about being grounded in the reality that Bama is still miles ahead of us. Let's go ahead and state it up front. Anyone who gets tix to this game and can't go: give those tix to a UT fan before you sell them to a Bammer. We need to make Lane feel at home in every way possible.![]()

This thread is stupid. Bama was awesome way before Kiffin. When they beat the snot out of us again this year it won't have anything to do with him. This is just a lame attempt to add significance to this game. Kiffin is old news and he will be embarrassed simply due to the fact that he will come into our stadium as a lowly coordinator. That is humbling enough.

I don't think fans admitting the problem has any bearing. No matter how many fans think we can beat them, that doesn't change the massive talent gulf between the two teams. The only thing that does happen is a bunch of fans do these mental gymnastics and talk themselves into thinking we have a chance, and all that ends up happening is they get pissed at the coaches for losing a game they had almost no chance at competing in to begin with.
I am agreeing with you. Our fans are not reasonable. There is a huge gap right now between us and the really good teams. I am saying that a lot of fans refuse to admit that we have a problem in competing. If they would admit it, then they should not be as upset. It takes time.I don't think fans admitting the problem has any bearing. No matter how many fans think we can beat them, that doesn't change the massive talent gulf between the two teams. It's college football. I really don't get the "benefit" of laying down and saying "stomp on me cause you're better than me". Disgusting.
Actually, I think it's a pretty weak response.
Nobody was saying they expected the players to lay down. Just that given where our roster is now, even on our best day, it would require Bama being way off their game for it to even be a contest. Fans expecting to win games like that serves no purpose, and just places unfair expectations on a coaching staff who is pretty much showing up to a nuclear war with a water pistol thanks to Dooley's pathetic job here.
In a year or two when Butch has a roster full of his own players, I fully hope we can go into big games thinking we'll win, but right now when our roster consists largely of sub-SEC level talent, it seems like madness to me.

Do you think so called fans hoping and praying a HC leaves so we may have a chance to beat that certain team is chicken $#!T?
