I like Bob (duck and cover)

I loved "Give... him... six" but the 45 40 35 30 25 20 15 10 5 4 3 2 1 was a bit too much on every TD run for me. The man is a legend though and fans ate it up.

Based on the comments I see on this form, I'm about to lose my VN card...

I don't understand the hate directed at Kesling. I think he calls a good game and I like Pat adding color in the booth.

I heard a compilation of TD calls from the AL game. His calls were clear and I heard excitement. I'm a fan.

Go VOLS!
To go from John Ward to Bob is like going from The Sugar Bowl to the Liberty Bowl.

Well it's about game time. Guess I'll go see who the network has to offer and tune Bob and Pat in at half and post game.

Go VOLS!

I've been fine with Bob up until recently. He seems bored/confused/uninterested at times. I think Tim's leaving sucked all the excitement out of the booth....he and Bob balanced each other well. Bob and Pat are both kinda dull.

Bob has never been great with down and distance but he just seems a little more off than usual lately.

The people who done like him like to hear commentator lose their mind. Bob isn’t like that

I don't think he is trying to emulate JW, but was influenced by his calling methods. Go back and listen to the reserved classy ending to our NC game and his FB calling career. CLAD IN BIG ORANGE was not shared in haste or shrilly with high decibel levels. Not going to nominate Bob for the HOF but hope he does not regress like the legend from GA and his snarky big calls. I am guessing that cutting your teeth in the radio era vs the TV era explains some of the difference in tendencies.

Yes, the endless criticism of Kesling long ago got tedious and boring. He's the announcer, he is what he is; why prattle about him week
after week after week?

I guess it's just a matter of taste... how you want to hear the game called. I'm not a fan of Mike Keith's calls but many do I know.

I do hear plenty of excitement from Bob in the GA hail marry and AL TD calls. I guess not enough for some.

No comments in the color guy Pat? I like his timing and humor. Thoughts?
I'm not a fan of Keith either, but I'm not much a fan of Bob. It's not really fair that most of us grew up listening to John Ward who was not replaceable. Ward didn't have to go overboard- he was like the voice of God booming out of the radio.

I respect Bob. But I also understand that had the Oilers never moved here Mike Keith would have 100% been the voice of the Vols.
I don't think it would ever happen but how much fun would it be if Peyton was the voice of the Vols?

Peyton should come provide color on a game or two a year. It would be epic.

I don’t either. Bob has his style and does it with class. He’s a great guy personally as well.

You’ve obviously not heard many other college games or even high school games.
He is horrid and you must be deaf Or related.

When we say Bob is horrible, we are not judging him against John Ward. We are judging him against every other decent football play-by-play announcer. He does a poor job by any reasonable standard.

Besides, he has held the position for over 20 years. UT Football is in an exciting new era. Time for Bob to step aside and for UT to have a worthy voice for play-by-play.
