I like Bob (duck and cover)

This is a common complaint on this thread and easily resolved. I do like your input on how should be called (seriously).

Next time I'm at dinner with Bob I'll be sure to pass along. Or, Maybe he decides to retire on top after VOLS win the natty this year.

Like I said, I haven’t listened to him in a long time, but if he hasn’t fixed these very basic problems after 23 years, he’s not going to try.

The people who done like him like to hear commentator lose their mind. Bob isn’t like that

Not me. I just want somebody that gets the down and distance correct, time on the clock and where the ball is on the field.

He’s even worse at Basketball. If you watch the game while he is commentating, he is constantly wrong about where the ball is and many times who has it.

All you have to do is listen to him while you’re watching the game and you’ll understand how bad he is.

It is a very difficult job. We were just spoiled by one of the best ever. While Mike Keith can be annoying with his over the top excitement he does a much better job of letting you know what is going on.

Bob's a halfway decent basketball announcer, but even there he gets overshadowed by John Ward. As great as Ward was at football, he was even better at basketball

I definitely agree with the second part. I used to shoot ball in the gym while listening to John Ward. It was almost better than watching it on TV.

You think Bob Kesling is good until you actually watch a basketball game while he is calling it. The reason it seems like he’s doing a good job is because it is fast paced. But when you watch it, he has no clue.

One surprising thing I've learned from this thread is that Bob has been calling games for 20 years. I just got a few more gray hairs!

I've heard on other sports radio talk shows that Mike Keith is next man up. Wouldn't be my first choice but I'd support him like any other member of the "Volunteer Team".

Bob is a fantastic person. He loves the Vols too. Some of his problem is that he came from a TV background. I remember him in the JP sports broadcast with Dave Baker.
He will never be Mr Ward and he doesn’t have the charisma to be a Mike Keith. He is extremely hard working and knowledgeable though.

I personally like Mike. Great guy and I like his enthusiasm. He loves the Vols too. I don’t think he would leave the Titans though. They pay him too much money and it’s less work.

I think he's just getting older. I watched an old highlight a few days ago and he had more "umph" in his TD call. He was never Ward, though.

I don't hate him. Wish he would just be a bit more of a homer. I also wonder if his years being the sports guy on WBIR have led him to have a more polished approach.

I often listen to games on radio. Again, I think he does a good job. We could pick on a few calls but calling a game that has so many moving pieces live is difficult. They all make mistakes at times. I certainly don't want saaaaaaack!
I'm with you here. I don't see the problem. He's Vanilla compared to John Ward, but take someone like Eli Gold. He's absolute vinegar. I will be listening to WIVK today against UGA.

Hard working? At what? It's certainly not studying the players names. Or basic fundamentals of Play calling.

Bumbling Bob blows

I’m teasing here snowflakes go easy. I love my fat people.

Rapid fire: Who would win a chicken wing eating contest in their prime? Heupel Kessling Fulmer or Chaney

Running late to game party today. Between shop time and running late, lots of Vol NW time.

1. Pre-game was excellent! Maybe best I've heard.
2. I listened to Bob and Pats entire 1st qtr. Sorry guys, I'm going to call BS on the arguments about the booth not calling ball position, distance gained, down and distance, time, enthusiasm .

Everyone has an opinion but I suggest going after Bob on his mechanics is a false narrative.

Bob will always get slights from Vol fans. It’s because he followed an absolute legend. Same with Holly and others who had to follow a legend. I’m sitting in the car listening to him right now. I don’t know if it’s just because I have gotten used to him, but I wouldn’t want anyone else calling the game TBH

I loved "Give... him... six" but the 45 40 35 30 25 20 15 10 5 4 3 2 1 was a bit too much on every TD run for me. The man is a legend though and fans ate it up.
He was painting a picture for radio! I could visualize the play when he did that.

Hahaha....
Hahaha
Looks like Bob got some friends and family to come in and defend him.

I'm gonna go with the majority of fans versus the small amount of Bumbling Bob defenders. Bob is just not good at his job. And it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with following John Ward.

Hating on Bob is just the cool thing to do unfortunately
