I like Bob (duck and cover)

I'll never understand the love for Mike Keith. Announcers are different and some listeners like one thing, and some like another. Mike's shrieking of "Sack" or "Touchdown Titans" grates on my nerves. It's over the top fake, in my opinion.

His style injects enthusiasm, and his cadence captures the emotion of the moment.

I think his style is perfect for radio.

I disagree with your post somewhat but gave ya a like. I too no longer really listen to radio calls. Unless it's overlayed on YouTube highlights, I don't hear it.

But I don't listen to radio , even in the car, simply because Bob is awful. I'll have my wife give me updates off gamecast if I'm driving.

I have hope that Danny White has a plan to try and get a better announcer in the booth. 23 years is too long to put up with something so far below mediocrity . It doesn't fall under his jurisdiction, but he has some pull.
Lol.. when we couldn’t watch the game (driving down to Atlanta) we have family members watching text us updates over listening to Bob… my 70 year old Aunt is the best 😂. She just started watching football in 2020

Bob,Pat and Jeff suck they spend more of their time on Big Orange Hotline trying to build up all of Tennessee's opponents.

Bob’s only downfall is big game defining moments. Overall I agree, he’s not a bad announcer.

Nope. That's not even his worst problem. He is terrible at giving you any kind of mental image of what is going on on the field. He is cosntantly confused. He doesn't update down and distance, time, or score regularly enough. He is horrendous at his job.

We still, after all these years, need to get even with "hobnail boots" and Bob can't reach that level. Likeable guy but not gonna.

Oh, I don't know. Just for the heck of it, hire Vincent McMahon or Adam Pearce. The calls would be colorful if nothing else.

I wouldn't mind Tennessee getting Tom Leach from Kentucky when Bob retires from calling football games i think he's superior to Bob.

Bingo. Chris Fowler, often maligned on these boards for being anti-UT, was more effusive during the KY game than Bob. He also painted a better verbal picture suited for a radio audience than Bob did, even though it was a TV presentation.
Lindsey Nelson once said that his success was based on keeping the listener informed and he used a two minute timer to que him to give the down and distance, time remaining and the score. Bob usually fails at the basics and butchers names, situational awareness and seems not to care. A very bad mix so often excused as him being the follower on of a great game caller. Sorry to those who feel that way, but Bob has failed miserably at his profession.

You trying to stoke a fire by implying Ward was a stooge?

Even if you didn't care for Ward, it's impossible and asinine to lump him in the same category as Bumbling Bob "Cheggardboard" Kesling
Bob Kessling is 10x the announcer John Ward ever was. At least Big Boy has a background in broadcasting.

This is an underrated post.

Bob's job duties include:

-Accurately describing the play at hand
-Giving accurate down and distance
-Giving the listeners the time remaining
-Knowing who the players are and their numbers
-knowing the difference in a field goal and extra point
-Having a slight favoritism towards your team
-Simply put..paint a picture for those not watching

Bumbling Bob fails at each of those. If he was just bad at one or two but at least average at the rest, many would have different feelings towards him. It's been 23 years of suck. Time for a change.

What a turn of events that would be when it happens

I see your server is out of Blue font:

I don’t know what that means. I assume it means that you agree with me and John’s inability to pronounce several words each and every time they are spoken or the fact that the man couldn’t manage a broadcasting clock if he had a gun to his head. The Vol Network as a whole has been a complete **** show since day 1.

Based on the comments I see on this form, I'm about to lose my VN card...

I don't understand the hate directed at Kesling. I think he calls a good game and I like Pat adding color in the booth.

I heard a compilation of TD calls from the AL game. His calls were clear and I heard excitement. I'm a fan.

Go VOLS!

I haven’t listened to Bob in about 8 years. It’s possible he has gotten better, but the main reason I stopped listening is because he never gets the yardage right. He rarely says where the line of scrimmage or the down and distance. And when he does, he does so in a very confusing way. He always says something like, “That’s a gain of a couple, so it’ll be 2nd and 4.” And I’m thinking, “um…a 6 yard gain is ‘a couple’?” He also often tries to get the receiver’s name correct before saying how large the gain was on the reception. That is also frustrating to listen to. When you watch a football game, you first notice that the pass is complete, it gained X number of yards, the ball is at yard line X, and then you see which receiver caught it. Kesling tries to explain all of that in reverse, and he sometimes forgets to mention on what yard line the play ended. It’s not natural hearing it like that, adding to the frustration.

This is a common complaint on this thread and easily resolved. I do like your input on how should be called (seriously).

Next time I'm at dinner with Bob I'll be sure to pass along. Or, Maybe he decides to retire on top after VOLS win the natty this year.
