I Still Don't Believe...

Just wondering what the RPI was pre Stokes and post Stokes. Don't know why this would not be a huge factor.

Because you must be judged on your entire body of work. They can't just throw out the first half of the season and ignore it. The second half will be weighed more heavily for sure, but at the total expense of how bad we were through December.

Why shouldn't they? If the difference between us making and missing the tournament is a couple of losses from a UT team that no longer exists, that's ridiculous.

That Tennessee is even close to getting a bid, like most on here keep harping about. That said, it's a miracle that Cuonzo Martin even has this team competing for bubble consideration. Martin's resume shows that his teams usually improve tremendously from year one to year two. I think he's ahead of that trend.

The experts say differently. Were very close.

Because the first 10-12 games weren't preseason games. They count against your record. You can't pick and choose sections of the season that hurt or help your cause to fabricate a resume that is falsified. I admitted in my previous post that the second half should be given more emphasis because it is a better representation of our current team, but you just can't ignore altogether a third to a half of the season. Those games still happened. Surely you understand how silly that seems.

you still dont think we're close?

we are the NEXT team in the tournament.
in other words we are the 69th team in the 68 team field. how much closer can we get?

JMO, But if UT finishes 2nd in the SEC and wins even ONE game in the tourney, they will get a bid..

This is my take as well, usually numbers don't lie and are key but UT finished second, period, so if we are not qualified then how are the teams below us better. I have never seen a #2 team in a major conference get rejected.

Who cares what our rip is, we finished #2 in our conferece.

End of story

see alabama just last year!

Only difference i see is Alabama didn't deserve it last year. They slumped come tournament time but UT is clearly peaking and with stokes & deserves a bid. Not being partial neither. Alabama started strong finished weak last year. UT is opposite

Thinking back over the years I can't remember a second seed in a major conference that didn't go dancing. I hope and pray we are not the first.
But, the rpi is not there at present, our sos is in good enough shape. Lunardi said two wins put us in and I will take his word for it. GBO

that is correct.

i was just replying to you saying you have NEVER seen a #2 in a major conference get rejected. when in fact alabama had just last year.

you are correct that they didnt deserve to be in the dance, but regardless they were a #2 in a major conference.

Yeah I agree, we need to fight, would be cool to see us dance. Never thought it would happen this year

Alabama deserved to be in the tournament last year, imo. They were more deserving than USC and UAB, easily. They beat Georgia twice during the final week and a half of the season. 12-4 in conference. The only reason they didn't get in was the RPI; they actually finished off the season well (they did NOT stumble down the stretch).

lost 2 of the last 3 in the regular season, not exactly a smoking end to the season.

also their RPI was 75 on selection sunday, its not even debatable you just dont get in with that RPI.

USC was RPI 65

UAB was RPI 31

it's not even debatable Alabama with a 75(which would have been highest rpi at large ever) should have gotten in over either team.

I guess we'll see. I'm hoping I'm wrong, but I'm going off past history for SEC teams who started off slow and had a weak resume. Tennessee has definitely passed the eye test, though.
