Out of all the possible names, I want Stoops the most. He's got a good track record. He's won a national title. And he's got a good number of years left in his career. I'm just not sold as everyone else seems to be on Gruden, who hasn't coached college football in a decade or two.

Stoops was being discussed as possibly the new UF coach back in 2010; and the notion held some water since Stoops has a NC ring from UF as the DC in 1996.

People were trying that rumor about him wanting out of Norman then too.

Then we saw what he was building and has now moved into... you don't build and move into McMansions like this if you're intent on leaving a place.

I don't get the infatuation with Gruden personally. Yes, he won a SB--with Dungy's players. He was barely a .500 coach at Tampa. Discounting the SB with Dungy's players, he was actually below .500. Stoops would definitely be better, but isn't a realistic option.

Well, evidently he did something Dungy couldn't do with Dungy's players...

I keep hearing this arguement and I might buy it if it were college but in the NFL, frankly it's a stupid one..

Let's see, leave a perennial Big 12, or whatever it is now, powerhouse where Texas is typically your only real threat particularly with Nebraska's exit and you just hammered them in embarrassing fashioin to move to the at best consistently third or fourth program in the toughest conference outside the NFL with known grueling recruiting requirements to make up for lack of instate talent.

Wonder how much that would cost us????

I could see Stoops taking the UGA or Alabama or Florida or LSU job but I don't see him at Tennessee.

Dont see this happening, I'd say he wants a raise. I wouldnt be a bit upset to not land Gruden and get Stoops. The thing about Gruden is that with the staff he would assemble and the name recognition, UT will flat clean up on the recruiting trail. There are plenty of mediocre head coaches that surround themselves with great staffs and thrive, imo. Gruden will do exactly what we need him to do. He will charm people, sell tons of tix, get us on TV, and have a top notch coaching staff. Therefore, I would take him over Stoops, but Stoops would be close second imo

It would be a good hire. Proven coach with a great record and has defensive experience in the SEC. And no losing seasons as a HC...
