I want Riley Ferguson

So you honestly expected a true freshman, non-early enrollee QB to have success with no experienced receivers and average at best running backs? Name one QB that has come in with that situation and had any success in the SEC. Name one.
Anyone that has played the sport knows that it takes repetition and some time in the weight room for freshman. You're exactly right. Those who never played can't relate to the physical toll on the body. Most freshman hit a wall. Even AJ and Maggitt hit one their freshman year.
Trying to judge Dobbs (or Ferguson if it had been him) is unbelievably premature at this point. I guarantee you'll see a different guy in the spring game and a hell of a competition between Dobbs and Worley this summer.
Fergie has no game experience but yet some claim him to be the savior based off reports from what reporters were able to watch (Peterman). Absurdity at it's best. Dobbs should be light years ahead of Fergie because of his game experience especially being that he had the playbook memorized from day one. All he needs is the gym. That's not to count out Fergie however because he should be bigger, stronger faster as well. My bet is on the experienced QB. Counting out Worley is a mistake. Contrary to what people think Worley doesn't lack in the confidence department and he won't go down without a fight.
But, hey, instead of supporting our players that are going out there and giving their all for Tennessee, you sit behind a computer screen and personally attack them. How exactly do you feel that you are helping the school you say you support by ripping its players?
It's what they do. Some on here have valid questions and good debate. Then you have those who swear they know every aspect of this game. 9 out of 10 on here couldn't handle the mental grind that it takes to be a student athlete and have never experienced it. The toll of 4 qtrs of hitting another human being and trying to mentally stay focused to do your job is why only a select few have the privilege. Madden 2k14 or whatever video game people play does not make people experts. There's more to running a route than running a route. There's more to throwing a slant than throwing a slant. There's more to hitting the gap as a RB than just hitting the gap. Unfortunately fan-atics won't ever understand that. Bama fans are crying mad today because they don't truly understand this sport. A woman was murdered by another woman because she truly didn't understand the irony of this sport. Some Vol fans don't understand the slow growth and development that "has" taken place over the season by this team because of this staff in place. Continuity will be the key to the rise of UT football. Not firing coordinators because fans don't like the play call. 40 + different coaches over 5 years gave us what we have now. Only a fan-atic would want to keep firing coaches. Why? Because they don't understand the sport. They understand emotion. If they're not happy after 3 hours of football the team is a failure. This is where we're at.

You knocked it out of the park.

Peyton Manning. He did have two pretty good running backs coming up but Charlie Garner had just graduated and only one experienced receiver in Joey Kent and not nearly the offensive line we had this year.

Go back and look at Manning's stats his freshman year. Not great. 1141 yards, 11 TDs, 6 INTs.

Stewart wasn't just "pretty good," he ran for 1,000 yards and 11 TDs. Averaged 6 yards per carry. Hayden ran for 800+ yards and 5+ yards per carry. Both were NFL draft picks.

Yes, understand, but they were still unproven, and Neal and Lane have both had pretty decent seasons and could have helped a freshman quarterback. Also, he said name one, and Peyton is the one. Team would have been 7-5 with Peyton coming in as a true freshman.

Danny Wuerffel. He started for four years for the Gators. You can argue he had better players around him and that's true but still Neal and Lane are good SEC backs and you can't argue his offensive line was any better and he competed for championships right away.

Eric Zeir and David Greene for Georgia. Again, you can argue they had better talent around them but again the competed for championships and even though Ferguson wouldn't compete for championships he still could have been more than capable.

Well, actually, I said name one, he was quoting and responding to my earlier post. But I think you're practicing a bit of revisionist history here. The line in 1994 was nearly as veteran as the one this year.

I wouldn't call Stewart unproven, he was a senior who had led the team with rushing 9 touchdowns in 1993.

As for Manning v. Dobbs, Manning threw for 1,141 yards by playing in 11 games, but only playing the majority of eight games. That's 143 yards per games in which he started or played most of the game. In that stretch, he played just one ranked team, Alabama, who he lost to.

Dobbs threw for 695 in five games, really 4.5, but let's say five and give him an average of 139 yards. Three of those were against teams that finished the regular season in the top 5, including both participants in the SE Title game. Taking out the first three games when Manning played limited snaps, he was still only four yards per game better than Dobbs with a much better surrounding cast against a weaker schedule.

Now, I'm not arguing that Dobbs is even in the same category as Manning. But this great myth that exists that Manning was a bright star that was a world beater as a freshman is just false. He was average at best. Obviously, he got much better with experience and work in the offseason. I would expect Dobbs to do the same, especially with a guy as good as Ferguson pushing him.

Tim Couch-Kentucky. You can plausibly argue he never had SEC talent around him.

The premise was to have success-not be a world beater.

Stewart had also run for close to 1,000 yards as a freshman before Garner arrived. He was anything but unproven.

Wuerffel walked into a team that was a preseason top-10 selection. Not even close to the same situation. Not even an argument.

All these examples prove it could be done. Might not win championship but be more than capable.

Well, statistically, he didn't have dramatically more success than Dobbs. Just played in more games.

But, wouldn't you say he was still a success? His argument was no freshman could do it and I say yes he could.

Tim Couch-Kentucky. You can plausibly argue he never had SEC talent around him.

Couch split time with some dude with two first names running the option. I'll be the didn't throw it 120 times as a true freshman.

But so has Neal.

Nope, he barely had 1000 yards in three years total entering this season.

Stewart had run for nearly 2,000 yards entering his senior year and had led all UT running backs in touchdowns each of the three seasons leading to 1994.

But both Neal and Lane are more than capable backs and both might be drafted. The premise is that you're asking a freshman to do something impossible and its not.
