I would like to see what Pearl could do with this team....

Lofton made Pearl period. Yes he went to a an elite 8 without him but he got bounced in the first round twice the other two years. The fact of the matter is he shouldn't have made it to the tourney his last year with 3 ugly losses (worse than UTEP and Xavier this year) and a 19-14 record (which was worse than CCM's first year)

Without Lofton Pearl's overall record was 68-37 and 29-19 in the SEC. That's 65% overall and 61% in the SEC. So far CCM is 45-31 overall and 21-13 in the SEC. So that's 59% overall and 62% in the SEC. I loved Pearl when he was here but I can admit that he started declining once Lofton graduated. Yes he had his team hot at the right time and went to the elite 8 but he also had a more talented team in 2008-2009 than this years team and lost in the 1st round and went 21-13.

Other way around-Pearl made Lofton. Pearl went to 8 straight NCAA tournaments. Lofton was only there for 3.

How ever you want to slice it, pearl is still twice the coach that Martin is. Lofton and Jujuan Smith did make pearl. After the exposure from them pearl started attracting the bigger named recruits (hopson woolridge) and when that happened he lost the ability to press and it turned out that just because a guy is rated a 5 star dosent mean he is gonna be that good. Pearl fell in love with the 6-6 athletic guards that were simply not as good as 6-2 Lofton and smith offensively, not to mention they weren't quick enough to press. IMO I would rather have a guy that is 6-3 and can actually play than a 6-6 athlete that has no offensive skill. Cuonzo loves the 6-6 athletes that cant score. Armani Moore is a prime example of this. He is out of control when he dribbles, can't shoot from the perimeter, and is more likely to throw up an all backboard lay up than finish.

Pearl didn't "make" Lofton. Lofton was getting accolades even as a freshman playing for Peterson. It wasn't like he came out of nowhere Pearl's first year.

Lofton was pretty much Allan Houston Part 2; he would have succeeded no matter who was coaching.

Lofton never would have achieved his "greatness" under Petersen. Also, Cuonzo wouldn't have developed him like Pearl either.

I remember when Pearl was hired he immediately started talking about the NCAA tournament and everybody was thinking "is this guy nuts?" He had little talent and a bunch of short guys to boot and then he put Bradshaw at forward. Everybody was thinking this guy doesn't know what he's doing. Then by only the sixth game some people already started to believe and by the 10th game Volnation was euphoric and we never looked back. It was like basketball Camelot.

The only difference in Lofton was that he took more shots as he got older. I liked the Pearl era, but let's not pretend he was an offensive genius.

As dumb as our fans can be during football season, I think we're worse during basketball season.

I totally agree with this statement..Look I loved Pearl and actually enjoyed the years he was our coach, but that is over..If u are going to remember the good times, remember that he lied to the NCAA, and who knows what they would have done if he was retained as coach, and also remember how the last game he had as the coach, that team actually quit on him..Although I have opinions on what I might do different from CCM, one thing is for sure, those guys never quit on him, and u can see it by the involvement of the kids on the bench..Even Moore who is in and out of the lineup still cheers and stays read for his next opportunity..His kids stay engaged and that is something that should not be overlooked ever..When CCM is gone, I will support whomever replaces him, but just like football, our fans need to come down off their delusional clouds, thinking we are UT, and everyone wants the job..

Do you think Hamilton's announcement just prior to the Michigan game had something to do with that? And do you think it was calculated?

Pearl would not be down 30-15 late in the first half against this NC State team. This is mediocre coaching and game prep at best.

People who don't like the idea of Pearl coming back better get ready to get beat by him.

He's not getting hired in the SEC. He'll have to prove, at a mid-major first, that he can still win AND stay out of NCAA trouble while doing it.
