if a&m joins who will join the east

The FSU rumor has some legs down here.

The plan to have them and Miami lift the whole ACC blew up pretty badly. Instead, they both got a lot weaker.

Moving to the ACC is not what made them weaker. Terrible coaching decisions (that is, decisions as to who should coach, not decisions made by the coach) plus UF's resurgence is what has hurt both schools.

north carolina could be a taker but i dont see them leaving for football. they like their bball over there....

Clay Travis does a lot of stirring up trouble, but I agree with him here. If we're going to sixteen, I'd take VT and a North Carolina team in the East and A&M and somebody else (Mizzou?) in the West.

Va Tech is rumored to be entrenched with UVA by the VA legislature. WOuld probably mean trying to get both.

UNC may not want to leave Duke/NC State behind, would the SEC risk watering down football this much?

I think that we would pick up a team for the East. Possibly Clemson, Georgia Tech, or FSU. All 3 of those teams have a major rival in the SEC. (USC, UGa, and UF). FSU is my pick. Any thoughts?

Yeah. My thoughts are we would become even more irrelevant then we already are. Why not go ahead and add Miami, USC, Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, and Oklahoma. That way we can be assured of finishing in the bottom half every year.

You implying UT is a worse team than GTech or Clemson right now?

I wouldn't go after UNC, I'd go after NC State. They actually care about football. And they have a hell of a lot more football tradition than South Carolina ever did.

And I've heard rumors on both sides regarding VT.

Everyone keeps throwing all these teams out that they think would be good for the SEC but you are looking at it the wrong way. The SEC is going to bring someone in who expands their market. Teams like NC State, Louisville, FSU, etc etc just dont do it.

Va Tech is most likely the #1 target as far as anything east because it gets them into the Va market and DC market which is HUGE.

From what I have read getting a team in the East isnt going to be all that easy.

I understand and agree with your points about how Louisville and FSU doesn't do it. But how does NC State not help? It's not like we already have Raleigh and Charlotte locked up. We have nobody in North Carolina right now. Your comment about NC State would've been my comment about Clemson.

League presidents ARENT going to go for academic lightweights like USF, Louisville,UCF and schools that dont offer a diversified program of both athletics and academics...the SEC WONT raid a conference that is stable for a school to make an even 14..Perhaps the leftovers from the Big 12???

Id look for Missouri in that case, they make geographic sense.

Flordia St, Clemson in the east and Texas A/M and one more in the west. Then you have your super conference with 16 teams.

You are right that Lville would not add a football mkt - however it would make a lot more of the SEC bball games that Lville plays able to be put on TV like UK does - so it would add a bball mkt as you could sell those games a heck of a lot easier than say ole miss bball

I do get your overall point though that they have the KY mkt so they would prefer to get VA, TX, NC, etc

north carolina would be a perfect fit as they would give you bball and a new state and not beat up on your good football programs - dont seem them ever leaving ACC though - they dominate the ACC

I say they go more in the direction of adding more program content. Ant league that has more games and more quality of teams will generate national interest from fans and networks. This "regional market" stuff is old school flawed logic. People in DC, St. Louis, and New York would rather watch a bunch of good quality games every Saturday than deal with having Maryland, Mizzou and Rutgers shoved down their throats...

FSU, OU, UNC, Duke and Miami all have national appeal. FSU, OU, Clemson and Miami are historically quality football programs. UNC and Duke add value in basketball. Any combination of these schools being added to the mix would help in program content. Do you really think UNC or Duke would be added to pick up the Raliegh/Charlotte markets or for their national bandwagon appeal?

Program content, people.
