I'm still waiting for someone to name all these great players on the '98 Kentucky team.
Scott F'n Padgett!

I think people are confusing the 98 team with the 96 team. The 97 team was better than the bunch Tubby won with in 98.

98 team: Saul Smith, Cameron Mills, Jeff Sheppard, Wayne Turner, Steve Masiello, Ryan Hogan, Heshimu Evans, Scott Padgett, Nazr Mohammed, Jamaal Magloire, Michael Bradley, Myron Anthony, Allen Edwards

97 team: , Wayne Turner, Derek Anderson, Jeff Sheppard, Anthony Epps, Cameron Mills, Steve Masiello, Ron Mercer, Jared Prickett, Jamaal Magloire, Nazr Mohammed, Oliver Simmons, Scott Padgett, Allen Edwards

That 97 team that fell in the championship game was much, much more talented on paper.

No Tubby Smith. UT can do alot better if that time comes, alot better. He also has too much Kentucky in his blood for me. Hiring an ex Kentucky coach, yuck.

I look at it this way. The Utah team they beat in the final had two lottery picks. UK? None. I'm not even going to bother comparing the rosters between the Cats and the Duke team they beat in St. Petersburg. That's too easy.

Anyone who looks at that '98 roster and tries to pass it off as some juggernaut is just flat clueless.

As for Rajon, I don't think he and Saul played at the same time, but Rondo has become a premier NBA point guard and wasn't even good enough to start for Tubby.

Rondo is on sportscenter because of his teammates. Put Rondo on the Sac Kings and they are still the worst team in the league. Boston is the big 3, not the big 4.

I would boycott the entire athletic program if Tubby Smith were to be named our coach.

Nobody is making you stay here. You can leave at any time. The average IQ of VN would benefit.

Yeah, Scott Padgett, Nazr Muhammed, and Jeff Shepard were real superstars. They simply outalented Duke in the regional final that year. Oh, wait.

In the 10 years he was at UK, you can find one scenario in which he beat a team that he wasnt supposed to.

Tubby plays a boring slow pace game, he cant recruit and he's not getting any younger. His best years are behind him. If UT is expecting to stay competitive and compete for a final four, Tubby isnt it.

NYYVol, you're a lucky man.

I'm not a "delusional" uk fan. I played basketball all of my life. I've been the head athletic trainer for 2 different basketball teams for the last 6 years. i don't claim to be an X/O's genius, but i know the difference between good basketball, **** basketball and everything in between. Tubby wasn't horrible @ UK in the beginning and would be plenty good enough for alot of programs in the country. I'd love for him to be at UT, would love it. Just like every coach in the SEC LOVED it when he was at Kentucky. Tubby wasted more scholarship money at UK than anyone i've ever seen. You realize for the better part of 4 years we had 21 feet of **** sitting on our bench in the form of three 7 foot players?

Alot of uk fans are NC every year type of people. I want to see a good team who competes hard and has a chance to win put on the floor. Look at our roster Tubby's last 2 or 3 years, would you trade your UT team right now for that? I wouldn't.

As for Rajon, I don't think he and Saul played at the same time, but Rondo has become a premier NBA point guard and wasn't even good enough to start for Tubby.

Really? Because I'm pretty sure I remember him being at LEAST on the Freshman All SEC team. If he didn't start it was solely because he had no range whatsoever.

Tubby Smith = Mediocrity

Tubby won the SEC regular season title, the SEC tournament title, or both in 7 of his 10 seasons at UK. He made the elite 8--matching UT's best ever season--4 times, and won the national championship one of them. Before that, he took Tulsa to the Sweet 16 twice, Georgia to the Sweet 16 once, and he seems to have remade Minnesota into a tournament regular.

I could stand that kind of mediocrity.

Delusional isn't the word I would use. However, if going 110-33, 49-15 in conference with 3 SEC titles, 3 SECT titles and a national championsip in his first 4 years "wasn't horrible," I do have another word for you. Tubby put a good team who competes hard and has a chance to win on the floor every season. His last season's roster included NBA players Randolf Morris and Jodie Meeks, McD's all-america and current NBADL player Joe Crawford, Derrick Jasper and Ramel Bradley. Rondo left early in '06.

Cotton,
He was decent in his first 4 years at UK, thats where most of the positive stats come from. But from what he took over, to where he left, UK are two different animals. His last few years at UK were a joke.

And why would UT want a washed up old man that plays slow boring ball? He hasnt made in past the first round of the NCAA since he left UK and he doesnt have the drive like a younger coach does.

Calling Tubby's first four years "decent" or "not horrible" is the epitome of ridiculosity. If you want to call his last four years "decent," in which he averaged a 25-9 season, won a conference championship and a conference tourney championship, made the elite 8 and progressed to the 2nd round three other times, I'll agree with you, but only because the standard is so high at Kentucky.
