Miami lost to middle of the road teams and barely, barely got by BAD Va Tech and California teams. They looked shaky before pulling away against Duke. They nearly lost to Louisville, which was their best win. They got too much credit for beating a Florida team that didn’t have its sea legs yet. SMU beat the same California team 38-6. They also drubbed Pittsburgh, and their one loss was to BYU, currently ranked 18th, and it was by 3 points. SMU has a stronger resume than Miami by a wide margin.No. I think they just showed us that the ACC is a one bid league by what they did to Miami.
the committee chair was asked specifically if SMU could drop out behind Bama if they lose and he said “potentially, yes”. That’s all I needed to hear to know how this is going to play out.Yes they will. Committee chair basically said a team in the field currently who loses their CCG this weekend is not likely to drop out.
The whole sport is completely flawed. Everything is subjective and driven by who the big wigs want in for the most revenue.certainly are some flaws in the current selection protocol. playing for your conference title comes with jeopardy and it shouldn't but how do you ignore it? and AQs not a fan, at all. they got work to do after this year
This is different. They said earlier that they won't penalized teams playing in conference games. If Clemson wins a close game, it's their chance to prove it wasn't just talk. A dream scenario is an 8 OT game with Clemson winning by 2. No way they could leave SMU out. If Clemson blows them out, then they probably get bounced outNo. I think they just showed us that the ACC is a one bid league by what they did to Miami.
I think it does count for them. The probably is the spot they were ranked right before the L. When you're ranked as high as they were it's very hard to fall out the top 15 especially if the loses aren't consecutive. Those wins against UGA, Mizzou, and SC kept them in striking distanceI know I’m beating a dead horse here, but that’s all that matters to me. It infuriates me to no end how the Gumps can get even the slightest of a second chance to make a run. Take care of your sh*t during the season, why does that not seem to count for them in this scenario?
The brutal truth is we don't know what the committee will do, but we can be pretty confident it will include Bama in the playoffs and a home game for OSU in the first round. There is no way to predict what will happen when using non-bias logic. Here’s a point I’ve not seen mentioned:
Let’s say Clemson wins…the committee will not let SMU in over Bama, we all know that. Now, let’s say Texas beats UGA, as well. How would you justify dropping a 2 loss SMU out for losing their conference championship, but not dropping a 3 loss UGA at least a few spots? This is the only path I see to hosting a first round game.
