If Clemson beats SMU does SMU still get in...

certainly are some flaws in the current selection protocol. playing for your conference title comes with jeopardy and it shouldn't but how do you ignore it? and AQs not a fan, at all. they got work to do after this year

No. I think they just showed us that the ACC is a one bid league by what they did to Miami.
Miami lost to middle of the road teams and barely, barely got by BAD Va Tech and California teams. They looked shaky before pulling away against Duke. They nearly lost to Louisville, which was their best win. They got too much credit for beating a Florida team that didn’t have its sea legs yet. SMU beat the same California team 38-6. They also drubbed Pittsburgh, and their one loss was to BYU, currently ranked 18th, and it was by 3 points. SMU has a stronger resume than Miami by a wide margin.

What if Boise State loses? I can’t say I’ve watched the Broncos a ton but they barely beat UNLV the first time. 29-24.

I know they’re at home but you could argue if they can contain Jeanty, who knows.

Vols have gotten plenty of help from being on the bubble at #12 to #8. And with this committee, expect the unexpected haha

Yes they will. Committee chair basically said a team in the field currently who loses their CCG this weekend is not likely to drop out.
the committee chair was asked specifically if SMU could drop out behind Bama if they lose and he said “potentially, yes”. That’s all I needed to hear to know how this is going to play out.

I have an idea that they surprised him with a couple of issues and he made it up on the fly. I suspect some committee members see it differently.

IMO a SMU close loss to Clemson at 10-2 should put them over Bama in any real world situation . But Sankey Loves him some Bama for some reason and is pushing hard for them . And thats weird if you ask me .

The whole sport is completely flawed. Everything is subjective and driven by who the big wigs want in for the most revenue.

You think we would be in if we were in Bama's shoes right now? Hell no. Its a disgrace.

This is different. They said earlier that they won't penalized teams playing in conference games. If Clemson wins a close game, it's their chance to prove it wasn't just talk. A dream scenario is an 8 OT game with Clemson winning by 2. No way they could leave SMU out. If Clemson blows them out, then they probably get bounced out

If Clemson wins a close game and SMU is left out good luck getting anyone interested in playing a Conference Champ game. If you can be in the playoff before the game and not after it then the appeal of a bye is probably not worth risking being left out altogether.

If Bama gets bumped by SMU and Boise State gets bumped by UNLV, Notre Dame has to beat SMU and UNLV to get the quarterfinal.

That sucks in its own way also.

Man at this point they’ll do what they want. Smh. Win baby just win. The CFP lost a lot of credibility.

This picture always cheers me up. Shoutout to VN!

Here’s a point I’ve not seen mentioned:

Let’s say Clemson wins…the committee will not let SMU in over Bama, we all know that. Now, let’s say Texas beats UGA, as well. How would you justify dropping a 2 loss SMU out for losing their conference championship, but not dropping a 3 loss UGA at least a few spots? This is the only path I see to hosting a first round game.

I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but that’s all that matters to me. It infuriates me to no end how the Gumps can get even the slightest of a second chance to make a run. Take care of your sh*t during the season, why does that not seem to count for them in this scenario?
I think it does count for them. The probably is the spot they were ranked right before the L. When you're ranked as high as they were it's very hard to fall out the top 15 especially if the loses aren't consecutive. Those wins against UGA, Mizzou, and SC kept them in striking distance

The brutal truth is we don't know what the committee will do, but we can be pretty confident it will include Bama in the playoffs and a home game for OSU in the first round. There is no way to predict what will happen when using non-bias logic.
