If Holly Warlick is the coach-in-waiting

Baylor averages 7k a game attendance - more than I thought they'd have.

Maybe you guys are right.... we're not worthy of Mulkey.</srcsm>

Can Holly et al coach? Don't think we will ever know, with Pat sitting on the bench, not really a fair judgement of Holly by herself.

My thoughts exactly. The problem right now is that UT has two head coaches--the one who is actually doing the coaching, and the ailing legend sitting beside her, looking over her shoulder, who the players still ultimately answer to.

When Pat does retire, Warlick should get the job if she wants it, for a lot of reasons. For starters, this situation would have been impossible for any coach. And secondly, if you bring someone in from outside the program, you're just hired the women's basketball equivalent to Gene Bartow. If they don't go 40-0 and beat everybody by 25 points in their first season, they won't be able to make anyone happy. They might need to destroy Geno in the championship game, too.

The UNC men's program handed the program off to Bill Guthridge after Dean Smith retired for a reason. Guthridge then coached UNC to two Final Fours in three seasons and still couldn't please anyone, but he was ready to retire by that time himself.

Seriously? The succesor can't be successful unless he/she goes 40-0? Where have you been the last 4 years - Mars?

We've been on a downward spiral since Parker left. Losing at home to pedestrian SEC teams is where we're currently at. That, and getting murdered by the real final four candidates.

Fact is, Warlick HAS had the job this season (and a good bit of last season, if you paid attention). So in real terms, the successor will be replacing her, not Pat.

That's not the point. She can win national titles staying at Baylor as easily as she could by going to UT. No reason to make a lateral move and leave a place where she has infinite job security.

Get Mulkey. Pay the $. Do not waste time.
This a big-time program needing a big-time coach.

Seriously? A lateral move?

Biggest coaching salary, best facilities, best fan support and the most banners anywhere. And the Hall of Fame nearby.

Heh. Lateral...good one.

People aren't going to remember any of that when Pat is gone. They're going to remember all of the championship banners in the TBA. They're going to remember the eight titles and the gazillion Final Four appearances and the 39-0 season.

That's going to be the standard the next coach will have to live up to, not being better than we are right now.

Got it. No hire will ever be as good as Pat...so we should settle on Warlick because she's the closest thing TO Pat.

That's your story and you're sticking with it.

Yeah, sort of like why would Gale Gostenkors ever leave Duke. Oh wait...

That's a nice pic, Slydell.

Curiously, you post it wherever there is discussion of a successor for Pat going on. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. Is it to keep the coaching status quo because we won the SECTC?

No one to my knowledge posted pics of our players staggering off the court at ND or Stanford.

I actually posted it in 5 or 6 different threads around VN where I thought someone might appreciate it. Not trying to make any point. Just happy for the team and their Tourney win. Everything doesn't have an underlying meaning. :hi:

It's been said by a respected insider Pat is done after this season. Hope we get a great coach if he is right as usual.
