Mac Jones's stats are irrelevant - he also plays behind an elite offensive line with a couple of elite WRs who could probably contribute to an NFL team today. Not to mention an elite running game in support. Mac Jones, if he was on Tennessee, would have better stats than JG through 3 games but we'd still be 2-1.Maurer's recruiting profile, was very similar to 3* Mac Jones', and do you need to be reminded of his stats so far this season?
So you can speculate all you want about what might have happened had Maurer gone to another school, but that still won't change the fact that your statement is demonstrably false.

My point is that Maurer was not highly recruited in the sense that he was seen as a "can't miss" prospect with offers from every CFB power in the country. If he really did have a committable offer to Ohio St and A&M, quite frankly, I'm not sure why in the hell he came to Tennessee.
Justin Fields came in in blowouts for Georgia, and, infamously, for a fake punt. Ole Miss brought in JRP for designed QB runs since that's his thing, not to "get him some snaps."Alabama, Florida and Georgia the last couple of years. Ole Miss did Saturday night against Alabama. They were in the game to near the very end.
I don't disagree with you on that one. Mac Jones probably would be doing absolutely nothing here, and JG would probably be an adequate starting QB for Alabama, even if just purely as a function of their superior offensive line and WRs. I mean, I don't think Mac Jones has the stats he does through 3 games because he's an incredible talent or highly developed - he has all day to throw to wide open WRs.I agree with part of that at least, with our coaching staff Mac Jones would be riding the bench as just another underdevloped QB behind JG if he'd come here.
The point being, is that he was a 3* prospect with nearly the same recruiting profile as Maurer, and he's starting for Alabama, because their staff knows how to develop QBs, so you speculation on what might have happened had Maurer gone to another schools, is pointless in the discussion about what this staff has not done with his development as a QB.
Getting him in the game is getting snaps and doesn’t Ole Miss use RPO’s? Fields also played in just about every game in the 1st half and not just blowouts. You lose this debate.Justin Fields came in in blowouts for Georgia, and, infamously, for a fake punt. Ole Miss brought in JRP for designed QB runs since that's his thing, not to "get him some snaps."

A coach gives his team a chance to win by exhausting every possible option.
We lost to Georgia yesterday with a 4th string QB.
Our defense played their asses off. And guarantano handed them the game by being concrete footed in the pocket, slow to make decisions, and just completely inept.
This isn’t a shock either. We’ve known what we have at QB for 3 years now. The fact that guarantano has started a game after the Bama game last year(even before that if we’re being honest), makes me SERIOUSLY wonder if Pruitt is a competent coach.
And makes me wonder if our administration is competent giving him an extension....
Fields did get a series or a few plays in the 1st half of most games and Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss do also. You asked for examples and I gave them to you. More teams may also do it.So you want Maurer in the game to run some RPOs with him? Got it.
Fields barely played in any situation that mattered while at Georgia - I mean, that's why the dude left. 95% of his snaps were in garbage time.
He has the most experience. Bailey may be the kid but he's not ready yet. We have to work with what we have and our QB room is what it is. It takes 11 to make it work, so everyone has to step up.Oh JG will start you wait and see...Pruitt won't replace him...JG is like the albatross around his neck.
How many times do I have to state TL. Also Hurt and Tua at Alabama. HC’s have to be brave sometimes. Look what Saban did in the NC against Georgia. He has the most experience. Bailey may be the kid but he's not ready yet. We have to work with what we have and our QB room is what it is. It takes 11 to make it work, so everyone has to step up.
We'll never know. All we've heard from the players is that they're 100% behind JG. None of them are going to speak negatively about him to the media. Neither will the coaches. This is why I think interviews and pressers are pointless if you want to know anything outside of who will/won't be present for a game. It's nothing more than sugar coating and coach speak. I think that's why a lot of people found Spurriers and find Leach's and Kiffin's speeches so refreshing and entertaining.I am curious as to whether it is window dressing or is it something more. I want to know who the O-line and the team really want under center. Never in my years have I seen such a passive display at QB, no emotion. He doesn't get his o-line fired up to want to play for him. I never like Baker Mayfield but honestly, we need a QB that brings that kind of fire. You don't have to be great but you have to show you care. JG provides neither of these qualities; no emotion besides pouting and sulking which is counterproductive.
The first half I was beyond pissed because of boneheaded plays the defense was making like Deandre coming within a yard of the qb after he threw it. The defense played hard but they shot themselves in the foot countless times. The defense wasn’t killing it. The score should have been 17-14 had it not been for an unforced snap error to start the game. We're you saying this the first half of the game? Sounds like every other half glass full fan that wants to make excuses for the loss. We showed we could play with the big boys, and then we collapse. GA didn't change anything about their game except get inside of JG head. Played man and press coverage on the receivers daring JG to beat them, and they were right.
Uh yeah, he's a defensive minded coaches pet. Relies on the defense to win games.Pruitt loves JG
I think the issue is that most of us were expecting our o-line to be elite as well. Not saying I expected a win, but the mistakes they had along with getting beat at the line of scrimmage the way they did all game is inexcusable. Just sayin, I think most of us expected a little better than what was shown. Even Vegas did or they wouldn't have set the line at 12.5.I’m very aware of who we’ve played.i just think it’s hilarious all the dipshits that come out of the woodwork that start hurling personal insults at the coaching staff because they are mad. I don’t think everyone is giving the UGA defense the proper respect they deserve . Yeah we were not good, but they are elite.
I wasn't being too serious there. Just being my occasional intelligent rear-ended self. You never know. I lurked for over a yr before I created an account. Of course that was during the Gruden plane-tracking and Schiano fiasco. I had nothing substantial to add to that cluster-f***.
Oh I saw it. I thought that everyone who thought there was a chance of him coming here were nuts. I don't have room to talk tho. After I joined, during the OC search, I was one of those hoping/thinking we'd hire FreezeI wasn't being too serious there. Just being my occasional intelligent rear-ended self.
You missed the first Gruden mega thread. That was 24k.. Best entertainment on the net at the time...
Honestly I'd have to say it would be more likely they'd hire Gruden than Freeze. Could've got Freeze on the cheap but the 'ethical' those pesky issues got in the way.Oh I saw it.
