This makes the most sense. He's the only viable candidate left and he can have us winning quickly. He won't cost us a lot of money. Plus we can put in a clause in his contract to keep his behavior in check, which realistically shouldn't be an issue because this is his last chance anyways.

EDIT: Clay Travis is gay but he agrees with this strategy and makes some good points here.

NO. Absolutely positively NO. You don't have to hire Petrino, Tressel, or any other weasel that will screw up an already difficult situation worse than it is. If Hart tries either then he should be fired before the contract is signed.

It would be FAR more preferrable to go with another no name than to hire either one of these guys. At least there's a chance the no name will leave the program better than he found it in 3 years.... and neither Petrino or Tressel would be in the job any longer than that.

The best thing about Petrino is now gone. Because of his, ahem, history, the guy had absolutely no negotiating leverage at all. None. We could have said "We'll give you fifty bucks and a Doritos Locos taco once a week," and he'd have jumped on it.

But if we offer him now he knows we're getting desperate, and the space behind him has to look like a deep dark hole with Charlie Weis and Sylvester Croom at the bottom. So if we offer him now, we're going to pay him significantly more than if we'd offered him a week ago.

This is fun.

Because Dooley did just that...last I checked we are in no better situation 3 years later. Petrino at least doesn't come with NCAA issues just morality ones.

Leave the program and us have to pay out another buy out? I am sure that is the plan.

I would have already hired him.. He's better than any of the guys we've helped get pay raises already....

Well the benefit with hiring Petrino is, no other teams are going to come calling for him and he would probably be appreciative and loyal to UT just for giving him a 2nd chance...So who knows?..He could easily turn us around thats for sure

I did not agree with any Pertrino talk until now. If Strong is out then I think he is the next best option.

Perhaps we need each other at this point as nobody has a date to the prom. And let's face it, both parties are not bad looking at all but merely have xome issues to overcome.

This could be a good marriage in the long run. BTW...what choice do we have? I cannot think of too many.

I agree would you rather have the embarrassment of every coach you offer turning you down or a coach who cheated on his wife. With a cople of wins all his wrong doing would be forgotten.

BTW whomever thinks we should get a no-name instead of Petrino is morally right but decision wrong. So he banged his assistant and got caught. I cannot imagine VolNation is able to throw too many stones without sin including myself.

Is Fulmer completely out of the picture? Lot of people on the call in show believe he will come back if everyone turns us down

Not sure "date" and "marriage" are good choices of words in a Petrino thread.

Then you aren't checking too well.

Dooley proved he could not coach. He also proved twice now that he can build a program foundation. If you can look at UT's roster now and say the situation is no better than it was 3 years ago.... then no one can help you.

Petrino is a job hopper and is now known for it. Regardless of the reason, when a guy moves around as much as he has then you don't want him.

More importantly, what parent or coach is going to trust a kid they care about to Petrino?

Of all the names mentioned, Petrino would be the absolute worst hire. Bringing Fulmer back would be incredibly stupid... but still better than hiring Petrino.

Yep he's desperate for another chance.. He's already proven he's a winner.. He's the best option out there as far as winning now.. Either that or just hire Kirby Smart and hope for the best... Because Charlie Strong isn't worth 4 million a year.. Tennessee can get a better coach for less...

Why does this keep coming up? Nobody in the SEC is hiring Petrino. AU and UK didnt even want him. He is NOT an option.
