Only one would win the SEC. Only one fan base would be happy. Over time, several would be planning an exit strategy for Nick.
Because the SEC is stronger than ever, in spite of our failures as a program, Butch Jones could be the greatest coach we've ever had and we might not know it.
I don't believe anyone will win as much as Fulmer in the 90's. No way will we dominate Bama and Uga like he did. I do expect Coach Jones to yearly have us on par with the better teams in the east as early as 2015.
But because there are so many top programs, 8 or 9 wins will be good years. Look at last year andt tell me who had a good year and look at their record. But don't expect Fulmer style winning year in and year out. That's not to say we won't win the sec, but we might have a coach whose record will look more like John Majors or Mark Richt of late than Phil Fulmer and that's ok!

One of the great things about college football is that things change. Coaches change. Teams get better or get worse. Florida, Michigan, USC, and Texas are down right now. Alabama's turn will come. I don't know how soon, but it will come.

Maybe we will be peaking when some of the other SEC teams are starting to wane.

Hope springs eternal.

But, you are right. If things stay the same, it will be hard to do better than a 9-win season.

Well, I disagree with this.

The SEC IS stronger than it used to be, no doubt. But it'll change over the next 10 years. Saban won't be around forever. His contract expires in 2022. Pretty sure he'll retire after that one. Mark Richt is a bad season away from being out the door at UGA. Spurrier will be done soon. Sumlin may bolt for the NFL, who knows? Les Miles will be around for a while.

But the landscape of the SEC will change. Our job is to keep up, and to be able to reap the benefits of the changes when it happened.

College football where multiple teams every year overachieve and shock the world, while multiple teams underachieve and shock the world.

You can go from being a 6-6 team to being 11-2 the very next year. (TAMU). Think of the turnover in college football. You can have about 20-25 kids leave their senior/junior year and then you bring in a new class of 30 kids and hopefully enough of them can make an impact to turn your team around.

Hopefully we'll be able to do that and get 8 wins this year.

You don't think we can dominate Georgia? Based on what?

And Nick Saban is nothing special, he's also gettin older and may not be around much longer.

Phil Fulmer dominating Uga and Bama like he did is min blowing. It will never happen again. :hi:

UGA is nothing special, at all. Neither is Saban. He just currently has the best players in the nation.

Richt is a terrible coach, and Saban is getting old. We could very easily be dominating the SEC again in 2-3 years.

Nick Saban is very overrated! Anybody can coach and win if your recruiting class is number one 5 years in a row. Talent wins! Look at John Cal. Hes overrated also

I'll tell you right now I'll take mark richt's record and call it a day. You people saying he is terrible are simply ignorant. Is he great? No but he is a top 15 to 20 coach. You people expect waaaaaaaaay too much.

Records don't mean everything. He can't keep his talent in state. He has more instate talent with less in state competition than anyone else in the nation.

If they had a real coach, UGA would be scary.

Once we are on firm ground, I see us getting 8 regular season wins and a 9th win in a bowl game every year.

The exception to that is when some of the other teams on our schedule struggle for a certain year, then we can get to 10 or 11 wins.

For instance, let's image for some reason, maybe injuries, that Florida & Alabama lose to us this season, then we will be able to get our 10th or 11th win for the season. Alabama and Florida are not teams that we usually beat.

Sure, it can happen again. AL & UGA will go thru coaching changes, and they may once again hire coaches like the ones Phil dominated. And, FL could once again hire a coach like the one that dominated Phil. Even Saban is not immortal (see Bear Bryant).

Who is responsible for bringing in those #1 classes? There's a reason all the top players want to play for Saban and Cal.
