Tennessee has never lost 8 games in a season. Some think this is not outside the realm of possibility in Coach Butch Jones's first year at the helm.

Do we fire Butch if he loses 8?

My personal feelings are he would have to be eating Dooley Wacky Bambacky to lose 8.

If we do lose 8 next year though, I think it is grounds to fire Hart (might as well include Cheek while we're at it), and the next's guys first job is to line up the next guy. CBJ have to win something special in Y2 to carry-on.

We let Dooley carry-on after the KY loss, and I think we all agree it was a huge, huge mistake.

Lets fire him now and just drop Football....Tennessee doesn't stand a chance with fans like you.....

Takes a real moron to start a thread like this.

It will take an Ellis Johnson-esque performance from the Vols this year to cost Jones his job. Even then it may not happen. Mostly because Doolander was just not a good football coach.

Even Fooley never went 4-8. Butch Jones > Fooley. Therefore, we will not lose 8 FRIGGIN GAMES THIS SEASON!! The OP is clearly a pot stirrer.

Really?? The man hasnt coached one game and you're talking about firing him in his first season for losing 8 games.

smh

Some will wont to fire coach after game 1 because we did not win big enough, but anybody knows football that it will take 3 years to get us back to the top, we could lose 8 games i guess, but i dont think so, 6 and 6 or 7 and 5 is more like it, no we can go 0 and 12 and he would still have a job next year.:eek:hmy:

No. But it almost assures he'd be fired after three years.

He has talented upper classmen on both lines. One or two of the national publications said that UT has among the be LB's in the SEC... guessing they're looking at starters and not depth. There is physical talent at the other positions. This team has a lot of upperclassmen and particularly seniors that will play key roles.

Next fall... he starts over with underclassmen.

The long and the short of the reality of the roster is that if he cannot win with this roster then the odds are long against him winning with a bunch of Fr and Sophs.

We let Dooley carry-on after the KY loss, and I think we all agree it was a huge, huge mistake.
Dooley proved he could not coach. But it is dumb to believe you fire a coach after two years (yes even with a loss that bad) and especially considering the situation he inherited.

The fact that Dooley failed... the fact that he now looks like a very bad hire... does not mean that the method used to evaluate him or any other coach for a sufficient period is flawed in any way.

Last year was the first year Dooley went into a season with a team that was not dependent on freshmen and sophs to play key roles. Again, it would be dumb to fire someone before they had a roster with significant experience on it to work with.

So NO... it is not agreed that he should have been let go after UK. You could make your argument that he should not have been hired but once he was you needed to follow through to see if he could be successful. That required him getting at least part of the '12 season. IMO, once he lost his last opportunity to beat a team of substance (USCe) he should have been fired. UT could have finished the season with an interim and looked for a replacement that could have taken over on the Sunday after the last Saturday of games with a staff already assembled and ready to recruit.
