If we go 4 - 8 do we fire Butch? (merged)

...he should have been fired. UT could have finished the season with an interim and looked for a replacement that could have taken over on the Sunday after the last Saturday of games with a staff already assembled and ready to recruit.[/QUOTE]

IMO it worked out the best anyway. The current staff came in ready to recruit. They are like bullfighters going into the ring with "mustard on their swords".

Butch believes, the players believe, and I believe that the program is headed in the right direction. There's too much talent on this team to go 4-8. I believe you're looking at no worse than 6-6, more likely 7-5. It's upward from there on!!

Tennessee has never lost 8 games in a season. Some think this is not outside the realm of possibility in Coach Butch Jones's first year at the helm.

Do we fire Butch if he loses 8?

My personal feelings are he would have to be eating Dooley Wacky Bambacky to lose 8.

If we do lose 8 next year though, I think it is grounds to fire Hart (might as well include Cheek while we're at it), and the next's guys first job is to line up the next guy. CBJ have to win something special in Y2 to carry-on.

We let Dooley carry-on after the KY loss, and I think we all agree it was a huge, huge mistake.

and change your name and avi,,,,,,you don't deserve....and quit posting BS

OMG. I come in after 4 hours of yard work with a sunburned neck and I find this worthless drivel. We really need to get a life. Think I will step away from the iPad and start doing continuing education like I should be doing anyway. Going cold turkey. Pray for me. Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I would think about it if we went 2-10. Then I'd take a look at the financials and slap myself in the face, and tell myself "get it together, man".

I've never wished death on an op for starting a stupid thread...should I start?

YES! And every other OP who is infected with the need to post some negative and asinine post like this utterly out of the blue. There are days it seems we're our own worst enemy. But then I remember, it's just the infected denizens who insist on living in the ghetto of anti-positvity. I wish I knew a medicine man or two who could be persuaded to help your wish come true.

OP don't take what people are saying to heart. I think they are freaking out about the idea of going 4-8 more then anything.

But I don't think he will be fired his first year no matter what his record is.

He'll have the first year to get settled. Recruiting is more important than winning games in year one.

Hi Volnation,

Some confessions. I started this thread because I was hoping to create controversy / generate some fiery discussion in the off-season. If I'm honest, it's been a little slow, and I wanted to speed things up a bit. I guess that means I was trolling because I was trying to get a reaction. I thought it was far enough out from the start of the season to be that provocative. But, it seems people have taken this very seriously. Including Fade.

More confessions. I would have never fired Fulmer. I would NEVER have let Hambone make that decision, and I would NEVER have thought about hiring Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley. Those two brought some dark days to the Hill.

Butch is pretty much killing it right now. I don't know what that will mean come September, but he is outkicking his coverage right now. Long may he reign. Just win, baby.

You do realize that Fulmer hand picked Hamilton for the AD job, right?

I've heard that.

I suppose, if that is true, it's the most deserving reason for his firing.

Edit: BTW, we have ZERO chance of going 4-8 this year. We are going to upset someone this year for the first time in a long time.
