I'll say it - Heupel needs to sit Nico for UTEP

I mean we have serious problems if UTEP is hitting him often. If I’m Heupel I tell him not to run or any crap like that and take any unnecessary hits in this game. He needs reps with our WRs though.

As it has been released we are in the first team out spot, my Battered Vol Syndrome really has me thinking Heupel needs to sit Nico for UTEP and not risk any potential injury ala Florida State / Jordan Travis 2023....

There is virtually no upside to risking any potential injury to Nico in a meaningless practice game.

There is a lot of non SEC teams in the playoff rankings that will eat each other and likely present an opportunity for us to slide in. With that in mind, I do not believe we need to risk any scenario where other teams help us out only for us to not be graded fairly like Florida State did last year by getting hosed in the playoff because of a QB injury.

Sitting 3 quarters of the first 3 games of the season were leading factors of his slow start this year. He's sat enough. JMO
He sat more than that I thought. Didn’t he sit out the whole second half vs Kent State like he did Chatt?

Nico and the WRs need these reps so bad but if Utep has been getting to him a lot by halftime he’s gotta sit. If not he needs to play til at least 1 drive in the 3rd, 2 if we can and not too much time has passed in the quarter.

I personally think Nico needs to play at least through the third quarter, as long as he is being kept clean. As others have stated, this needs to be a game to get the passing game reset and work out the kinks before Vandy and whatever comes after that. We are currently not in the playoff field, so we are not risking “losing” anything. We have to go out and do whatever we can to take a spot. These next two weeks have to be of the hellfire and brimstone variety while we hope for some chaos ahead of us. We don’t have any ranked teams left on the schedule to impress the committee, so we need to look as impressive on both sides of the ball as we possibly can IMO.

Weak-minded argument. Hate to say it. Can’t think about injuries like this. Just dumb. They’ll manage his load and take him out at the half if we’re up 3 scores.

I know you don’t want to hear it, but this is year 4…and this passing offense is still predictable.

The run game is still the same too.
There’s so much talent we’re not engaging onto the field because of seniority and those matters. Heupel is a real genuine dude, but he’s too old school right now.

Bru McCoy is an athlete. He can take direct snaps and handoffs. We’re not using his physicality enough. Where’s the bubble screens?
Where’s the 10 yard button hook over the middle of the field. Where’s the TE chip block- then drags route? Why haven’t they had Sampson and Bishop/Lewis in pro-set or just on the field at the same time?? Why can’t we get any of our recruited WRs ready to contribute? Nathan Leacock and Mike Matthews are just sitting on the bench… 2 Top 100 WRs.

Tennessee is like a really good bucket of fried chicken with no sides….🫤
I hear you, but I just can’t be content with it and I hope our coaches realize soon that they shouldn’t be either. I love the run first style of play, but we have to figure out how to complete downfield passes or we’ll be ousted in the first round. I’m not content with that. Hope they surprise us Saturday with a new approach to football

Kaleb Webb needs to see the field. Where has he been? Made a few clutch catches early in the season and has since disappeared.

Nico needs to play. Vols need to play some young wideouts. That position has been disappointing

He definitely needs more reps. I mean early enrollment a whole year to learn the system spring practice fall practice 9 games. I mean really how many reps will it take? I think he has the tools to be special. It won’t be this year.

No he needs to play and we need to put 80 points on the board the next 2 games.

For UTEP I’d open up the playbook and take tons of shots and run the score up. We are paying them to play us, so we have to use them to help us now.

Alabama moved up in the polls after beating Mercer. MERCER. Of course they are Bama so ya know

If the committee chairman can mention that they were impressed with Bama beating a FCS team by 45 (a FCS team that beat Chattanooga by 7) then Heupel needs to put up 80 on utep. No mercy.

While he could use the reps, these are exactly the kind of games where you see injuries. Our guys likely won't be up for this one. They'll coast a bit because they can and won't have an edge about them. UTEP will be about proving themselves and taking their shots. That's when you can get some injuries. Unfortunately, losing to Arky has put us in a position of trying to impress the committee. Nico will certainly play along with all the other healthy starters for at least the first half. A catastrophic injury before the Vandy finale would be such a UT thing.

He needs every snap he could possibly see. He needs live bullets with his receivers. Frankly, if we're talking about sitting anyone -DSamp should sit. He's chasing a record. Ballers don't want to sit

I'm sure FSU fans were simply being overdramatic that Jordan Travis getting hurt against Northern Alabama and losing their spot in the CFP

If Nico is healthy he needs to play. In game are important for a guy with only 11 career starts.

Should we hold him out of practice too if we're worried about him getting hurt?

2 quarters worth of reps on deep balls is not worth risking a major the factor that the CFP has used to keep teams out of higher rankings the last 2 seasons... The risk vs reward is a no brainer here.

You want to sit Nico in practice too? Where are we drawing the line here?

In game reps, even against weak opponents, are important.
