I'll Want to Fire the Entire Coaching Staff if We...

I sort of agree with the OP. The game has changed and drop back passers are no longer what the game needs. If you have a 5* OL (as opposed to 5* heart OL) then you can have a drop back more NFL style QB but I prefer one that can move.
To be honest the NFL is getting more mobile and in the gun as much as ever before ….not just Lamar but Josh Allen, Lance, Murray, Wilson. Sure, you still need to be able to drop under C, but the NFL QB is certainly valuing mobility more now than they did 10 years ago

Well to be fair……….shouldn’t it depend more on system being used?

I mean really Hooker is a pretty good runner. If Tennessee was using more of a pro style or something different …..sure maybe you want someone who can move………but do they “need” to move like Hooker?

In 2 years at LSU Burrow rushed for 767 and 12 TD’s… I mean that’s a pretty good runner….
How many of those were 5 yard runs or sneaks? Honestly asking. He rushed for 300ish yards a season and 6 tds... it's not exactly extraordinarily hard against drop eight with Clyde Edward's, Jamar Chase, and Moss running around.

A few months back and I would have vociferously disagreed. That was based on Heupel’s past history coaching up both pro-style and dual threats. I own my wrong after seeing what he’s both teaching AND recruiting. He definitely has a TYPE.

I’m with you here.

(Opinion) but I guess he did with what he “had” and sometimes with “others” systems (earlier in career)……..however now that “he” chooses……..he definitely has his type.

Makes as much sense as anything I could drum up. I’ve always beaten the drum that the only requirements for a successful QB is to be able to make all the throws and make the best decisions the highest percentage of the time. That still holds true, but that QB who can clock it while backers and backs are running the same direction is a fun thing to behold.

...ever recruit another QB that doesn't run at least as well as Hooker.

A flat-footed QB gives the D an extra defender.

Simple math.

The special teams coach and defensive coordinator will feel the wrath of OP if UT recruits another Peyton Manning or Casey Clausen.

When you pay their salaries you can certainly do that. Don't think that will ever happen. But since you're an expert, feel free to apply for a counselor position.

I guess we need a clone of another Archie Manning that rumbled, stumbled, and bumbled with the football to come in here.👍😂

So is this satirical because you wanted Harrison Bailey to get the reigns and now that he is going elsewhere you are going over the top mobile qb or bust?🧐🤔

I mean the timing for a post like this during an off week after a very immobile qb says he wants to explore transferring. Makes me think thats weighing heavily on your mind.

I don't think of Hooker as a good runner. Yes he can run but he looks out of control until he gets into space. There's a lot more yards to be had for a QB that can change directions faster than he can.

Duel threat is the answer. We have had our fair share of no threat QBs.

I have always said that dual threat is the ideal college QB but not NFL. An ideal college QB is Vince Young, Cam Newton and maybe even Tim Tebow. Ideal NFL QBs are Peyton, Tom Brady and Dan Marino. We've tried the pro system in recent yrs here at UT. It didn't work out too well. Let's go all in with Heupel's system and let's do it with a dual threat. I hope he's scouring the HS seniors and the transfer portal for just such guys

He had about 300 yards in 14 games his senior year. Not a great runner.
I agree, not a great runner, but definitely better than Peyton’s rushing numbers.

Peyton had -181 yds on 153 carries (-1.2 yds/carry).
Joe’s LSU career, he had 767 on 243 carries (3.2 yds/carry).
