To be honest the NFL is getting more mobile and in the gun as much as ever before ….not just Lamar but Josh Allen, Lance, Murray, Wilson. Sure, you still need to be able to drop under C, but the NFL QB is certainly valuing mobility more now than they did 10 years agoI sort of agree with the OP. The game has changed and drop back passers are no longer what the game needs. If you have a 5* OL (as opposed to 5* heart OL) then you can have a drop back more NFL style QB but I prefer one that can move.
How many of those were 5 yard runs or sneaks? Honestly asking. He rushed for 300ish yards a season and 6 tds... it's not exactly extraordinarily hard against drop eight with Clyde Edward's, Jamar Chase, and Moss running around. In 2 years at LSU Burrow rushed for 767 and 12 TD’s… I mean that’s a pretty good runner….
A few months back and I would have vociferously disagreed. That was based on Heupel’s past history coaching up both pro-style and dual threats. I own my wrong after seeing what he’s both teaching AND recruiting. He definitely has a TYPE.
Makes as much sense as anything I could drum up. I’ve always beaten the drum that the only requirements for a successful QB is to be able to make all the throws and make the best decisions the highest percentage of the time. That still holds true, but that QB who can clock it while backers and backs are running the same direction is a fun thing to behold.I’m with you here.
(Opinion) but I guess he did with what he “had” and sometimes with “others” systems (earlier in career)……..however now that “he” chooses……..he definitely has his type.
I don't think of Hooker as a good runner. Yes he can run but he looks out of control until he gets into space. There's a lot more yards to be had for a QB that can change directions faster than he can....ever recruit another QB that doesn't run at least as well as Hooker.
A flat-footed QB gives the D an extra defender.
Simple math.
Duel threat is the answer. We have had our fair share of no threat QBs.
