This hire aint made yet. Thats exactly my point. After fulmer we could pick any coach we wanted. Any college guy and most nfl guys, but we dont have that allure now. The fact that strong didnt say hell yeah im going to knoxville is exactly the point of this thread. Where we were isnt where we are now.

Arkansas, a much less heralded job than ours, just pulled a coach from a top level school who had it MADE, and was going to his third straight Rose Bowl. Third straight, and not from the chump Big East either.

That AD did his job.

This isn't a tough sell. Tennessee is an attractive place, I promise you.

People thought Bill Gates was crazy.

People thought Steve Jobs was crazy.

Nick Saban thought Mal Moore was crazy.

Charles manson and hitler thot everyone else was crazy. These analogies could go on 4ever. The point is we arent in the position we were when hired kiffin. We cant just get who we want. Look who said no to this job already....not to mention when we hired dookey. I mean dooley.

I don't know what was offered, who was offered, how it was presented. I can't comment on those things because we don't know.

What I'm saying is that getting a top notch coach, not only for what we can offer financially and who we are historically, is not as difficult as you may think.

Yes, it will take effort and a good pitch (maybe a few times), but it can happen, I promise you.

We're about to learn a great deal about Dave Hart, Jr.

Winners expect to win, period. Call it cliche, but when you won't accept mediocrity and "lets settle because this is where we are perceived to be", amazing things can happen.

Looking at this as a salesman, Strong would be the absolute last option. He's already in the bag from the beginning. Hiring him means you have failed as a true salesman. I seriously hope we didn't hire Dave Hart to be this kind of AD, we just fired this kind of AD.

I expect to win read my post always set your expectations high.

But I am aware that I might fail. I identify the dangers in the path and add in the unseen factors that might blind side me.

It's better to be aware of all the factors and how they may factor in.

You got to have a plan for success and a second backup plan in some cases a third. That's life. No guarantees.

Now if your just charging saying I'm going to win with out knowing you might fail. Well that's on you ... all I can say is not very wise.

For the record I rarely loose.

I get what you're saying, but what makes you think Hart is actually leading this? If the boosters are letting Hart lead this, they're stupid. Period.

Mal Moore hired Rich Rod, and the Bammer boosters told him that he was to withdraw that or get fired along with the President and a bunch of other people.

Saban it was. The key boosters at Bama sold Saban.

Mal is simply a figurehead.

Absolutely. We have the best alumni with the most money working on this i assure you. I just hope they pull out all the stops but it looks like if gundy says no, then strong is our man.

A hint behind the times, there, pal.

Strong isn't going anywhere.

Is that official or speculation?

Several articles have been posted, including ESPN, stating that Strong is expected to stay at UofL.

My God, though.... who knows at this point. I'm pretty sure everyone just has stuff taped to a wall and are throwing darts at it jus tto determine what to report next.

If strong chooses to stay at UL then thats the ultimate wake up call. We shoulda got gruden? We cant even get charlie strong without him thinking about it for awhile. Either that or we are waiting on gundy to say no after he gets his raise. Pathetic. Never thot we would be this desperate.

I said this in another thread, and I have no reason to believe this other than a gut feeling, but I think it may being Fulmer round 2.

Honestly, we're scraping at the bottom of the bucket, so why the hell not at this point?

Hell it may not be the worst thing. Im just amazed at this whole thing. Man 10 yrs ago we were a totally different program. I thot the kiffins were gonna take us there for years to come and that was a damn disaster. Depressing to say the least. My son is 8 yrs old and he is more interested in oregon than tn. This stuff cuts deep.

Winners expect to win, there is no other option. Losing is not a freaking option. I promise you, if you wake up every morning with this mentality and carry it to whatever it is you do, you will understand what I'm saying. Truly breathe it and watch.

The Mike Hamilton effect has turned this place in to the Walking Dead!

Okay, I'm tired of this. Winners expect to win, but they're much closer to winning if they're 2nd rather than 6th in the division, 3rd rather than 12th in the conference. Any of you who can't follow, I'm talking about Florida. UT went after Muschamp, who turned them down in '09, to go to UF in '10. The point is, if UT were such fertile grounds that any coach we made a real push for, we could hire, we wouldn't have gotten Dooley in the first place. And if you want to blame circumstances--well, we just got put on probation for another 2 years, so it's not like we're out of the NCAA neck-o-the-woods yet either. I believe UT can hire someone to bring us back to national prominence within a few years. I believe that person isn't necessarily Gruden. I truly hope that happens. Regardless, ignoring facts (like 3 consecutive losing seasons, 2 SEC wins--against Vandy and Kentucky, respectively--in 2 seasons, and 2 more years NCAA probation, just for starters) is f***ing STUPID.

Exactly. Being upset that we cant land gruden is ridiculous. Being upset that we cant land gundy or strong tells you where we really are......for the time being. Maybe if we all just start thinking like winners our record will magically go from 5-7 to 10-2. Lets get our heads out of the fu**in clouds and get down to earth and hire a real coach and get on with recruiting and playin some damn D.

Much of this thread simply confirms what the OP said. He never suggested we settle for mediocrity. He simply stated the facts and the facts are our open position is not the desirable job it once was and you Grudenites who got butt slapped by your guy need to get over it, get real and quit thinking we deserve a miracle hire just because we are Tennessee.

While Gruden's guy may have been a bit insensitive, he called it right. Many of you were in Fantasyland then and still are.

Let's get real, get the best available guy we can and then support him as he rolls up his sleeves and does all he can to dig us out of this hole.
