I'm embarassed for us all.

I have lived in west tn all my life. UT has always been my favorite team.....and always will be. But what I am reading on these threads is embarassing. The unrealistic expectations, conspiracy theories, conceit and arrogance is absolutely shocking. We WERE a program that made it very difficult for an NFL franchise to even exist here......i.e. the Titans. We WERE a top 25 program annually. We WERE a top 10 coaching destination. But thats not what we are now. Now we ARE competing for in-state recruits with Vandy....and losing some. We ARE a mid-lower tier SEC program with a bad reputation, but an unlimited potential for success. We ARE, quite possibly, the most risky college coaching job in the country. I dont know who will be our HC next yr, but I have come to believe that we would be lucky to get Gundy or Strong......and we may get turned down by both. In the end, we may be too risky for either's career. THAT'S WHO WE HAVE BECOME! We need to be realistic and start working toward the future and stop reminiscing about the past. But what do i know? Not much I assure you.

You're just adding to the problem here

Low ball hires have us where we are now.

Shoot big, not for mediocrity.

Thinking and acting like a loser will get you absolutely that, 100% of the time.

This, all day. Alabama went through this same down period and look how they turned out with the right hire. But WE can't do that?

Nick Saban built a dynasty in 3 years at Alabama, literally out of trash. He basically gutted the program from the inside out. I obviously did pay attention, and if you would listen, I stated exactly that it doesn't "just happen". You go find a damn winner and you do what it takes to bring him home. Hiring Dooley and any other clown you can think of wont do it, hire a damn winner.

The way we fired Fulmer has nothing to do with where we are at.

I told you 3 years ago Dooley was garbage, and he actually turned out worse than I could have ever imagined. The fact that you just said he needed two more years tells me everything I need to know about your "DVR'ed football intellect". Dooley did a HORRIBLE job in almost every aspect.

I'm not sure where your cartoon and southern racism rants were going, but they damn sure didn't cause us to be looking for another coach.

Get a clue before you ever call me wrong. I might be an ass, but I know what I'm talking about.
No the F he didn't build it from nothing. He walked into a program in way better shape than UT was in when Fulmer was fired. Light years ahead. In fact to be honest the coach before him could have turned it around given those same 3 years. Mike Shula and the guys before him kept the cupboard full Saban just came in and saw that cupboard with a chefs eye added the missing seasonings and cooked up a meal.

Alabama just because of where it is and what it is is the one school where any half decent coach could crank out at least one NC every decade. Saban has just built it to where instead of once a decade its every 2 years.

We don't have that situation and people are seriously overrating how the rest of the world see's this job.

Think of it like this.. before Kiffin name that last guy that coached this team that was not a UT guy? Up till the point CP was fired there is not a coach ALIVE on this planet that thought of applying for the job. It was not a job you applied for it was a job that was passed down.

Most UT fans are going nuts because this crap is unprecedented. We have never "looked" for a coach until these past few years. Even most assistants were pretty much handshake deals. UT's AD and football program has been stuck in the 60's for over 50 years.

For those that didn't know from 1964-2009 UT had 4 coaches. Thats 45 years folks.

Doug Dickey from South dakota went to Florida coached at Arkansas before coming to UT.

Bill Battle born in Bama, went to Bama, Coached at Bama under Bryant till coming to UT.

Johnny Majors from TN, went to TN got thrown away like a piece of trash to make room for CPF the dude was understandably bitter for years.

Philip Fulmer UT boy born and bread had a hall of Fame career at UT and was booted after a few bad seasons the dude is weirdly not nearly as bitter as he should be.

Majors and Fulmer account for 32 of the last 48 years of UT coaching. The other 4 Coaches were all from not only out of state but, in the case of 3, from hated rivals. If you wonder why I stopped a a weird number like 48 is because between 1926 and 1962 no matter what the coaches name was it was Neylands team.
