I'm fine with no SEC team in the CFP this year

In my opinion, Georgia never earned #1 to begin with. They were given it by reputation, but looked horrible the first half of the year, skating by on a cupcake schedule. Therefore im not as impressed by that win by Bama. Who lost at home to Texas.

To me? You cannot set a precedent of win every game and still not make it. That was like 2004 when Auburn won out and still didn't make the BCS championship game. It is just not fair. If you want to secure your spot, don't lose a freaking game and be the best team every week.

I think it needs to be:
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Florida State
4. Texas

I think it will be Michigan as the 1 seed, Washington as the 2, FSU is the 2021 Cincinnati 3 seed and Texas is the 4 seed. Sorry bammers, i just don't think you get in.
Now, will Washington mash FSU and make all the bammers go "see, it should have been us instead of them"? Who knows. But the Texas Michigan game ought to be good. I think Michigan wins it all. I guess it depends on if the committee wants to see the best games, or what they think are the best games, or do they give credit for winning them all.
I don't think FSU is one of the 4 best teams, but they went undefeated and won their conference. As a power 5 program, that is an accomplishment.

One would think the current rankings also reflect the committee's assessment of the best teams.

Jumping #8 over #4 when both won (even though #8s win was better) seems nuts.

Jumping #7 over #1 when #1 lost and #7 won big (and has a double digit win over #8) is feasible.

My bet is Michigan 1, Washington 2, Texas 3 and FSU 4. Bama 5 and crying about it.

It is what it is. Bama can't lose to Texas and complain when 3 unbeatens and 1 loss Texas get in. But this will be a very low rated playoff, and the narrative for the next month will be about the SEC getting left out.
Why? bc uga and bama may not make it in?

Playoff teams should be:

1. Michigan 13-0
2. Washington 13-0
3. Florida State 13-0
4. Texas 12-1

If the committee selected TCU last year, there’s no way they can justify not selecting Florida State this year. Texas should get the nod given their head-to-head win over Bama and the fact they crushed their opponent in their conference championship game. They’re also the only team that can boast they beat the SEC champion.

Edit: Corrected my statement about TCU being undefeated last year.

I tend to agree with this. I can see them having a toss-up between OSU and Texas, but I do know there will be a ton of unhappy fans once this shakes out. If those fans happen to be Bama/UGA fans, then all the better.

TCU wasn't undefeated.

I think it'll be:

1) Mich
2) Wash
3) Texas
4) Alabama

Fun that it's interesting this year

By the way, for the “Bama is CLEARLY a top 4 team” talk…

-Lost by 10 to Texas on the road
-Beat 6-6 USF 17-3, scored a TD in the final minute
-Beat 7-5 TAMU by 6, was a one score game throughout
-Beat 4-8 Arky by 3 at home, Arkansas had multiple chances to tie or take the lead late
-Down 20-6 to Tennessee at halftime, needed officials help to get back into it
-Needed a 31 yard Hail Mary to beat 6-6 Auburn and got dominated in the ground game

Now…nitpicking wins isn’t my favorite thing to do, but let’s not pretend this is 2015-2020 Bama either. If LSU had this resume, we wouldn’t be talking about them like we do with Bama

I think the committee is going to put Bama in…BUT I can see the committee sneaking a sly one in by doing this

1) Michigan
2) Washington
3) Texas
4) Florida State

You ensure Michigan and Texas (two big brands) play in separate games. You get the best chance for a big brand national title game. You ding FSU by having them play Michigan instead of Washington. I wouldn’t be shocked if they did this.

Solid points.

And for those who want to piss and moan about Georgia..
Let this be a lesson to you. Don't schedule yourself cupcake teams and expect that those "wins" will mean much. Georgia and Michigan had cupcake schedules. But when Georgia played a good team it lost, and when Michigan played one (Ohio State), it won. And that's why Michigan will be in the playoffs and Georgia will be on the couch. You have to schedule games of substance. FSU playing LSU is a huge talking point for them. You have to schedule big programs.

That would be absolutely glorious

I think that’s slightly unfair to Georgia who beat two 10 win SEC teams, but it should be noted to Florida State that they went out and played LSU neutral even with Florida on the road on their annual schedule while Georgia sticks their nose up every year and has said multiple times “well, ya know, we do play a P5 opponent every year in Georgia Tech!” And refuses to schedule another P5 opponent

We’ll see what the tv numbers say if the SEC is left out, but I would guess there’s a lot of SEC fatigue around the country and a lot of eyes in other parts of the country don’t tune in for Bama-UGA rematches. This year may offer the opportunity for fresh/additional viewers to tune in. I think a lot of SEC country tunes into the playoffs regardless of who’s in because college football is so engrained in the fabric of this region.

(Apologies I forgot they did play Oregon in 2021, but my point does somewhat stand)

I'm just saying their OOC schedule leaves room for doubters if the SEC is ever down (which i felt like it was this year)
