Coming from someone that suffers from the same affliction, if this is your 3rd time trying to quit then you don't have the appropriate atmosphere to change. How serious are you about kicking this?

God bless

I'm as serious as I can be.. But, I have my doubts in myself if I'm being honest

Good luck buddy.

Just know that quitting cold turkey may be best if under medical care. There are meds that help with the withdrawal symptoms. Alcohol is a physical need. Your body can shut down if it doesn't get what it needs.

Just be careful. Prayers are sent my friend.

i will be honest,i probably ain't the best one to give advice, but if you are serious, all the programs and meds and home remedys aren't going to do much

the success rate is pretty even across the board,it may help you to get into something like AA,there is other programs that don't require an amen, but it is going to boil down to what you are going to do

it is going to test your will power, but you know what is going on in your life and you have obviously made your mind up as to what you need to do

make a lot of changes, don't be hanging out with your friends that drink, that is key,get out and do some stuff sober,i know it sounds silly but go to the zoo,go fishing,go to the movies, throw your self into work, just what ever gets it done for you

you are the only one that knows what that will be,but i have faith in you, that you will get it done and don't get pissed at yourself if you back slide a bit,get it done,we all know that you can,if you put your self to the grindstone

you have a hell of a lot of friends on here, that has your back, just call out and ask for a little help,we all will do our best as long as you put in the effort

Thanks! Your words mean more than you know..

The last time I tried, I went cold turkey, and I got the shakes and was real anxious..

Btw, I don't want to get on meds to mask the addiction..

Yeah, I was just about to say. Quitting cold turkey can be dangerous. If your addiction is at a high enough level, you should follow Obsessed's advice and consult a doctor. Glad to see that you are taking the step to at least make this public. The more people that know your intentions, the more support you will have.

It doesn't mask it. It brings you down safely.
One you are safe from the shock the meds stop.

Do you have insurance?

Yeah, like right now.. God, make it go away

do something, and no booze involved,do something, wash dishes, mop the floor, get busy and try not to think about it,we both know that it could be a week or more for the physical cravings to slow down a bit

That's part of my problem, I could stay up all night doing chores.. And never get tired enough to go to sleep.. My mind stays running no matter what

Look I'm not a Minister. I just know when we all finally reach a certain age - for the sake of this discussion let's call it the 'age of accountability.' At some point in life we begin to miss something inside. We have an emptiness. I'll tell you that 'emptiness' is indeed intended to be filled with something. What is that something? Well I personally believe it is that portion of God known as the Holy Spirit. You may not want to hear this but you need to hear this ... Jesus promised the world that he would send the Holy Spirit after his Crucifixion and Resurrection some time around 32 years after his birth around 2014 years ago. Regardless of what anyone else says on here this is Truth. I personally, very strongly believe that the only way you will ever successfully be free of acoholism is to fill that 'emptiness' with the Holy Spirit. That is what was designed to fill it. I want to encourage you to seek help - not in AA - but in a nearby Church that preaches from the real Bible. Your answer is there. It's free. It works. Really! It is for you. I'll pray for you to read this, hear this, and respond appropriately. I just by chance happened by his post. I rarely post here. I never post like this.
