Meh, one could argue Jordys light just finally turned on, the talent was obviously always there. You could say Martin helped that, but don't know that for sure. I've played with guys that it just clicked one day. You could argue Maymon just got minutes. Both guys were top 50 players. Stokes and Josh have improved no doubt. Moore, Q, Edwards, and Reese are all the exact same guys skills wise as when they stepped on campus. If the last 4 had been developed, our bench wouldn't suck.
So basically besides Josh nobody under a top 50 recruit has really developed since he's been here. How many guys are top 50 players next year?
So now all those guys have improved?
I though nobody has improved under Martin. It's whatever fits the current argument I guess.
"With an important win within its grasp, Trae Golden was perfect for Georgia Tech. Golden scored 16 points, including six clutch free throws in the final seconds, and the Yellow Jackets stunned struggling and seventh-ranked Syracuse 67-62 on Tuesday night. "I kind of went back to when I was a kid and just knocked them in," said Golden, who was 8 of 8 from the free throw line. "My dad used to make me nervous when I was younger. It made me think about that calm. It really helped me out."
Golden is the leading scorer for Tech at 12.7 and was just selected to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic team majoring in Science, Technology, and Culture.
Barton is a better defender. Golden is a better scorer. You act like Golden is awful at 3 and Barton is so much better. Golden 39 3 pointers made 124 attempted. Barton 36 made 109 attempted. Barton 33% and Golden 31%...Barton guards better than Golden, that can't even be argued.
Barton is a career 40% three point shooter, that's what this team needs from PG, not a guy driving the lane throwing up 15 shots a game while hitting 30% of them.
What's Barton's percentages from 3 in the 6 games we won? That's my point.

Barton went 0-1 with 0 points against WSU, 0-8 against NCST, 0-4 vs UK, 0-7 vs Mizzou, 0-5 vs TAMUEvery time Trae has a good game, people start jocking him. Go check his stat lines game by game. Same story, different team. He is the same player he was here. People act like he has left here and become some great guard and it's not true. He is the same guy he was here. He can lead your team in scoring and be SEC player of the week 2 times in one season or he can be the guy who throws up a 0-10fg, 0-5 3pt, 0 rebounds, 2 assists in 31 minutes like he did against Notre Dame w/ GaTech.
I'll take my chances with Barton and what he brings.
And Barton is a career 40% shooter from 3 while Golden is around a career 30% shooter from 3.
Yea, that's quite a difference man.
Like I said, this team doesn't need 12-15 shots a game coming from the PG position, that's taking too many shots away from Jarnell and Jordan.
And your go to has been as a distributor, as I pointed out, Barton is the better distributor this year, not Golden.
Who cares if he is a 40% career 3 point shooter. He is shooting 33% this year. Great he shot 40%+ at Memphis. He's at UT shooting 33%. That's great he doesn't turn it over and plays some decent defense but he has also scored 5 points or less 11 times this year during some important games. Give me Golden who might have a couple more TO's that is actually going to score some points. Who will go into a top 10 teams arena and drop 16 points. I'll take that instead.
Same can be said about Golden and Wichita State last year who dropped 25 on them and won. Regardless both are inconsistent. Both have had good games both have had bad. Golden had less help while he was here and Barton has more. Golden's the better scorer, Barton is the better defender. We are in the same situation with both, still on the bubble. I'm done arguing. CCM is to blame more than both of them anyways. We've tried Golden, it didn't work. We are in a better spot with Barton than we ever were with Golden, it's pretty simple.
Like I said, my OP is about how good we are when we get the Barton we thought we were gonna get. We all know the consistency issues, but when Barton plays well this team is better than it would be with a good Golden.
How much did we beat UVA by with Golden?
