Indianapolis Colts= 2007 World Champions

One win and they're in the playoffs. That doesn't sound like too much trouble.
I state that knowing they'll win the division and make the playoffs and likely get a 1st round bye. but there are two or three teams in the AFC that can/will beat them in the playoffs...NE, Balt, SD for starters.

when/if they see SD in the playoffs...then we'll see about trouble.

don't get me wrong...i'll be rooting for them. but they have no chance at beating SD at thier place...with the way LT is playing right now.

Ill eat the whole crow pie with a ice cream scoop if Im wrong but I think the Colts will soundly beat the Bolts.

 oof. that's a bold statement considering the direction the two teams are headed in...and also given that that game, should it happen, will likely be in SD to boot.

hope you're right....but can't see it, as of today.

but the NFL is fluid..changes week to week. so you never know.

That is among the ballsiest sporting predictions of the last year.

I think the only historical trend going in your favor is Schott's record in the playoffs, which is traditionally terrible. Then again, this year's Chargers don't look even remotely close to any team he has ever coached before.

Other than that, you've got an incredibly dynamic offense against a porous defense, and the incredibly mediocre play by Peyton Manning and the rest of the Colts offense.

Question: Who is the Colts DC? And why does he still have a job?

Dungy defensive guru? Kinda like Fulmer being one of the best O line coaches in the universe!

i think it has more to do with personnel than anything...

remember, our golden boy has a $90 something million dollar contract...probably eats up a little cap room....cap room that could maybe be used to get some help on the other side of the ball.

they have Cato June, Sweeny and Bob Sanders on D. other than that...who else has really been a difference maker?

Colts defense blows- they'd be unstoppable otherwise.

So he has the Chavis syndrome?
sort of, but not really. they are rather limited in who they can realistically go after from a free agent or even draft standpoint...they simply can't afford it.

they are now forced to do what they have been doing the past couple of years...sign some older free agents to short term deals and hope they have enough left in the tank for a 1 or two year run....

short of that or Manning restructuring to free up some cap room to get some real defense on that team, doubtful they will ever shore up the defense for long term solutions.

they'll put band aids on it every year and hope for the best.

but at the same time...with an offense like they have....they should be able to put up enough points to give their defense a lead in most games. that hasn't happened too much this year either.

and by all accounts, their division is getting better, and those defenses in that division are being built to stop the colt's offense...eventually that will catch up...the window is closing on the Colts, it's not shut mind you....but it's definitely not wide open like it was last season (which imo, was their best shot at it).

Think you can add the Bengals to that list, too. We'll get to see next Monday. Cincy has been playing as good as anyone lately, offensively and defensively for a change.

yeah, they have, but i'm just not sold on the Bengals yet...marvin lewis hasn't really impressed me and doesn't strike me as a big game coach.

if the bengals win that game, kind of putting a nail in the colt's cofffin, that would be a big step forward for them.

however, i like Indy's offense against the bengals' defense...

The Colts would do well to have a John Henderson type in the middle (for starters).

The Colts need alot more than just John Henderson in the middle. They need to replace 8 of the current 11 starters on D. Grant it, a few are injured right now, but even when they were playing they were not that good of a defense.

Now, Stokely is out for the year...one less guy to throw to.

I like the Bengals offense against the Colts defense more than I do the Colts offense against the Bengals defense.

Sure, they can light you up with Palmer-Johnson-Houshmadzadeh-Henry... but they can also kill you with the run with R. Johnson.

Depends on which Colts D that shows up. The one that creates key turnovers, or the one that doesn't. That's the only way they win.

the bengals are looking for a reason to implode. hopefully the colts will provide them ample reason to do just that.

if that's all they have to count on, turnover margin, then they are in trouble.

Yeah... I would have to agree. The only reason I say they're not in that much trouble is because they're going to make the playoffs. When the playoffs come around, it's a new season. I'm just hoping they may have some things corrected by then.

new season, with better opponents and the same problems for the colts spells playoff exit for the colts i'm sorry to say. doubt they can change their spots in the span of 3 games...at least enough to make that kind of run to a SB.

Pittsburgh Steelers enjoyed their new season in the playoffs last year. St. Louis Cardinals benefited from their new season in the playoffs. Don't act like it couldn't happen. Come playoff time, all you have to do is win 3 (I guess 4 if you don't get a bye) games in a row, and you're the world champs.
