Initial Bracket Thoughts.

And Duke's the weakest.

I assume you mean relative strength. This is a sorry field.

...and Duke's the weakest.

Yes, I mean relative strength. The difference between the Midwest and the other regions -- especially the South region -- is as appreciable as I recall seeing.

It's like Kansas isn't really the #1 overall seed. If Duke can't at least make it to the Elite 8, it'll be a sorry run in the tournament.

KU clearly wasn't rewarded as a 1 seed. KY not the 2 either.

I honestly think this sets up better for us than if we had gotten the 4 or 5. Assuming we can make it past the first weekend it keeps us out of the 4/5 vs 1 game in the sweet sixteen. Although the road to 16 is obviously tougher being a 6.

Just trying to see the glass half full.

Go Vols!

I think Louisville will give Duke a run for their money. If Duke wins that game, though -- and I think they will -- they have the easiest road to the final four of any team in the field. And it isn't even a close call.

i dont see your logic.

The title of "overall #1 seed" is now officially meaningless. KU will have its hands full in every game after the first. Michigan State or Maryland? Those are tough teams.

here's my favorite line about KU and the midwest bracket, from SI's Stewart Mandel

For reasons known only to the 10 people in that room, the selection committee tapped Kansas its No. 1 overall seed, placed it in the Midwest, then inexplicably stuck it with the most loaded field of any region, hands down -- Ohio State, Georgetown, Maryland and Michigan State. And like some sort of cruel joke, the No. 6 (Tennessee) and No. 7 (Oklahoma State) seeds happen to be the two teams that beat the Jayhawks this season.

:)

WOW...that is crazy.

Since I can't start a thread here is a scouting report of the Aztecs

Style of play: The Aztecs switch every screen as they have very athletic bigs quick enough to handle guards, we like to slow it down and give the ball to Malcolm Thomas on the box and start from there (he is our best post player) also isolate our big Billy White from about 18 feet as he is as quick as many guards and let him go to work on the bounce. We crash the offensive glass like no other

Strengths: Offensive rebounding ( one of the best in the country)
Post play we have 3 guys that can score 15+
Defense not flashy but they don't miss asignments and they really make it hard to drive the lane force teams to shoot jumpers
post defense: Malcolm Thomas is a amazing post defender
Weaknesses:
Free throw shooting one of the worst in the country (though shot it great in last 2 games)
Defensive Rebounding: don't box out very well
3 point shooting (but we have been doing a much better job of late)
Bench: we are depleted with injuries and only dress 9 and only play 8 (2 of which are playing hurt)

Scouting report of the players:

PG D.J Gay: He is a guy who struggled early on as he is really a 2 but as the season has gone on he has played like a true pg and has done a great job not T.O. Is great in the clutch. Has really done a great job of late from behind the arc and a very good defender

SG: Chase Tapley (may come off the bench): He is playing with a broken hand basically and is right now really struggling to handle the ball, but he is still shooting the ball well from behind the arc he is a good catch and shoot guy.

SF: Kawhi Leonard: A possible lottery pick down the line, I am guessing he is one of the leaders in the country in offensive rebounding an absolute monster on the glass with the biggest hands you will see, athletic too and of late has developed a mid range game and shot the ball well from the free throw line, also a terrific defender

PF: Billy White: Mr Inconsistent, when he plays hard and with passion he looks like an a freak of nature, very athletic with a great baseline drive spin he likes to use. A very good defender

C: Malcolm Thomas: He has devoloped into maybe our best offensive player, not only is he very good on the block (makes very quick moves) he is a terrific passer from the block his best attribute though is he is an amazing low post defender

Our Starting 5 can play with pretty much anyone in the nation imo but the problem lies in our thin bench

Brian Carwell: Really started off slow but has devoloped into a nice player at 7 foot and a biscut below 300 he has a nice mid range game and a quick move he uses on the block. He though doesn't always move his feet on defense and picks up some stupid fouls

Tyronne Shelley: Is severly injured but is gutting it out has a serious foot problem and well a hand injury. He can be our best defender or worst defender at times, not gonna score with his injuries unless he can get out on the break where he can use his strong body, a 2/3.

Kelvin Davis: You guys might have heard this name as he has survived Lymphona (sp?) cancer. He has been bad all year taking way too many 3rs but played very solid in the conference tourney making nice cuts and shooting it well from 3.

Villanova's 2 seed is very similar to us being given the 2 seed a few years ago... I have them losing in the 2nd round.....I also believe that SDSU will beat us. Hope I'm wrong, but Chism can only do so much and I've given up on Hopson dominating and taking over a game

Actually, I'd say that Ohio State probably is experiencing what we were about 2 years ago. Team that should have been #5 overall and best #2 seed got screwed over and put as the last #2 seed.

right, i'm talking about back in 2005 or 2006 when we were #2 seed and barely beat Wichita St. with a last second shot by Chris Lofton. In 2008 we were definitely deserving of a 2 seed.

Oh.....

Yea, that's probably comparable.

Winthrop, and we did lose to Wichita St.

lot of duke alum on the committee?..........or dookie V. family members. duke could be the only 1 seed in the final 4 and promptly lose to a 2,3,or even 4 seed.the blind could have seeded a fairer and better field.

In the five years I've done a bracket, it usually takes me 20 minutes. I usually have in my mind who I like already. This year? An hour. I felt like Kansas was the complete favorite until they got screwed. Quite honestly, this year is a total crapshoot with the brackets the way they are set up. With the brackets set up, I could see 10 teams winning the title.

Great point. I see it the same way.

Duke definitely got the easiest road, but it wouldn't shock me if Louisville beat them in round 2 (as long as they get by Cal).

I've only got a couple things to say:

1. Florida should in no way, shape, or form be in this tournament above, say, Virginia Tech or Illinois. Maybe not even over Mississippi State.
2. We got hosed, and we got stuck in a tough bracket. I don't see us getting past Georgetown.
