I have never really paid attention to it, but it was just called to my attention. With coach Frost players he went 12-1, 10-2 at UCF. His first year with his recruits went 6-4. This, IMO isn’t a great look. We saw what a qb (Dobbs, for example) can do for a coach. I think Hooker was that qb. I would be lying if I wasn’t worried. Great coaches do not get obliterated like this in year 3. Great coaches don’t struggle with Virginia and Austin Peay.

I think this year was ALL about CJH showing loyalty to Milton in return for HIS loyalty. You would THINK that would show players/recruits the "family atmosphere" of the Program. However, it can create a locker room that is NOT under the Head Coache's Control...and we have witnessed that last year at USCe and this year at Florida, Bama and Mizzou. Proof of lack of Locker Room control can be heard/seen out of EVERY Aaron Beasley after loss interview.

OR...

Coach Josh Heupel is WEAK in ability to get a Team Ready for an Away Game and is NOT able to motivate them in an Away setting.

Doubt second one. I mean we beat LSU last year. Look to see who all is winning all their sec rowd games.

Covid year had a bunch of opt outs at UCF. And even then, those losses were competitive.

This is pretty much my assessment as well. I have a real concern about Heupal's ability to coach to a championship level.

Fellow teammates want the best guys starting, because it makes them look better and it opens up future pro-opportunities for them.

I hear nothing in this interview to make me think CJH has lost any control or anything else, other than a young man who is very uncomfortable in public speaking situations.

I kinda hope Heupel finishes strong then bounces. That way UT will fall back to a 7 loss team for another 20 years. Ungrateful fan base it has become.
Then they can go out and hire Golesh or Chadwell and pick right back up where the Vols left off last season.

Ungrateful? Games are sold out, Vol Walk is a zoo and the guy is a top 10 paid coach. However, no coach is above appropriate critique. Hell, some Pats fans are ready to run Bill Belichick, one of the greatest ever.

First off, that 3rd year was the COVID year and he had a particularly high number of opt outs. 2nd those losses were all within 1 score as I recall.

Hooker was great here but just average and lost his job at VA Tech. So what was the difference under Heup?

We did not struggle against VA and AP was never really in doubt. Good grief 🤦‍♂️.

Mizz is a good team. There is a reason they only have 2 losses. I’m as mad as anyone but these emotional overreactions to losing to a ranked team on the road are getting out of hand.

It is not so much that they lost but how they lost
Exactly let's clarify. They kick a late field goal to take the lead or UT is trying to drive for the winning TD in the last 2 minutes and you loose it still stings, but it is not the crap we saw last night...or at Florida.... or 2nd half Bama....or SC last year. There's loosing a road game and then there's not competing on a road game. Give us a fight or some effort. Wolfing at the players on the other team as they kick your butt is not effort. I really think this team is soft.

Yes it’s clearly his fault that he took over a team with low on talent. It’s gonna take time to build the recurring and team depth needed to compete regularly. Also he went 10-3 at UCF his 2 year and 3 of those losses came by a combined 7 points, which 2 of the teams was ranked teams. Also he beat 3 ranked teams that same year, and one of those teams was FAU with Lane Kiffin in his 3rd year.

Also let’s compare Frost to Heupel. You say that was Frost recruits? But I would argue they was more George O’ Leary recruits. Frost was at UCF 2 years where he was 6-7 his 1st year. He wasn’t there long enough to build the team. Heuple won more games his 1st 2 years at UCF than Frost did. Also what has Frost done since leaving UCF? They are not even close. Heupel is recruiting at an elite level right now and we are beating our Bama and UGA for recruits now.

I know it sucks losing to Mizzou, UT beating Bama, LSU, and UF in the same year can’t be dismissed. Everyone is made because Heupel has raised the expectations back to where they was before our decline. No one should be happy with 8-4 or 9-4, but it sure does beat where we was at 3-5 years ago. Give him time to build this team and everyone will be happy. Do I think change needs to be made, yes. But it’s not Heupel that needs to go.

I've pointed it out before and got railed on for it..Coach Heupel just isn't a very road warrior.

His record on away games is .500 and even worse when those games are played at 330 or 7 o'clock.

He's even said it himself that he prefers to play at Noon on away games because it's easier to hold to the preparation routine for the entire team and maintain focus.

We had a bad game, we have plenty to address. But the folks whining about Heupel over a loss. Heupel didn’t takeover a loaded team at Tennessee, we were at the bottom of the barrel. He took that team and went 7-6 and actually almost did better. Nobody was expecting much at all the first year but we did better than expected. Last year most folks were only expecting 7-8 wins, I did pick 9. And we ended up 11-2. Now in the 3rd year we are going to finish either 9-3 or 8-4. Anybody ready to fire Heupel at this stage needs to frankly just shut up. Yes, the staff can improve and that goes for the head coach. We have to get deeper on both sides of the trenches. Run or pass, in the SEC the team that wins the trenches wins most of the games. Number 2 is the quarterback position, this was a tough year in that Milton was the epitome of waiting his turn a big arm and a great teammate. Nico is a very young true freshman with a great future, we have a lot of young talented freshman and sophomores and a future great quarterback. This year was the get over hump year with quarterbacks. I do expect a few changes to staff but not a major overhaul. I have great faith that the coming years will be very good ones for the Vols! But we have to develop what the elite teams have, good teams don’t let you up when they have you down and they don’t quit when they are down. Elite teams are consistently consistent. We have to become a mentally tougher team, we have to bring confidence and focus when we play on the road. We can’t be lax, we have to develop a killer instinct that refuses to be denied. We got bullied yesterday, and if we feel sorry for ourselves we are going to get bullied again this week in front of the home crowd. This team needs to find it’s mean streak. No doubt about 1 thing between this year and next this entire team needs to get stronger and faster and a lot tougher if it wants to be elite. No matter what next week if we don’t play with fire and effort I will be highly disappointed, I know Missouri was all set fire ready for us after the last few years. Losing a hard fought battle would have been no shame, but to unravel in the 4th quarter was disappointing but sometimes it happens. What is most important now is making the most of our chance this week. Georgia hasn’t lost in a long time, and we know we are capable of being a very dangerous team. Let’s go out there and lay it all on the line. To go get the win next week would be a huge statement and also disrupt Georgia’s pursuit for a title. It would also prove what we can do when we play 4 quarters with no let up. At the end of the day it’s a chance to beat undefeated number 1 who is going for a 3 peat national championship. Time for us to throw it all at the bulldogs and give them that loss, the perfect time for a big time win is next week in Neyland!!!!! GBO

It is not so much that they lost but how they lost

I get that. Every reason to be upset. They had a good game plan and executed it perfectly.

It’s the overreacting that Heup is never gonna XYZ because of things like he had a bad COVID year at UCF.

Some people still don’t realize that we have been overachieving since Heup got here. The ceiling is still high.
