If we go 7-5 with Nico it means Heupel was right to stick with Milton.

How so? If we go 7-5 and Nico plays average then the argument could be made he would have played better with more reps. If we go 7-5 and he lights it up and the D stays the same or worse then what does it matter who played?

If Nico is half as good as fans think he is, there is no way we win less than 8 no matter what the D looks like.

Yesterday was no biggie. Us old old folks are used to occasional inexplicable no-show games. We lived through the Majors era. He was the master of that. Beat Bama to end an 11 game losing streak to them, then lay a monster dud against Georgia Tech the next week. Wash, rinse, repeat.

USC may very well go 7-5 with the number 1 pick in the draft. I like NIco but he isn’t Williams right now and he won’t be next year. The possibility of 7-5 next year is real.

We could/should in theory replace the entire starting OL and the interior 2 deep on the DL. So no matter how good Nico is, the surrounding parts are going to be very inexperienced. That’s why 2025 should be the year to take a huge leap forward.

It’s not 100% certain that some fresh/inexperienced faces on the OL might not be an improvement.

Our offense has lacked creativity, and the defense has lacked cover skills. And most of this forum thinks its an automatic fix if you change the QB out. Halzle isnt Golesh. I understand this is Heupel's offense, but Halzle needs help. There hasnt been any bunch formations, i formations, anything that we had last year. Remember when we put Hyatt at the TE position and rolled him out? The I-Formation that scored the 3rd TD against Bama. The Bunch formation that scored the 2nd TD vs bama. All of this stuff hasnt showed up this year. Its been the same 4 plays. Run up the gut, Bounce run to outside, Screen, or Slant. If you want to win in this league you have to be more creative. This league is a copy cat league. Once 1 defense figures you out, the rest will copy. I expect us to get taken to the woodshed this weekend aswell.

Yes it’s clearly his fault that he took over a team with low on talent. It’s gonna take time to build the recurring and team depth needed to compete regularly. Also he went 10-3 at UCF his 2 year and 3 of those losses came by a combined 7 points, which 2 of the teams was ranked teams. Also he beat 3 ranked teams that same year, and one of those teams was FAU with Lane Kiffin in his 3rd year.

Also let’s compare Frost to Heupel. You say that was Frost recruits? But I would argue they was more George O’ Leary recruits. Frost was at UCF 2 years where he was 6-7 his 1st year. He wasn’t there long enough to build the team. Heuple won more games his 1st 2 years at UCF than Frost did. Also what has Frost done since leaving UCF? They are not even close. Heupel is recruiting at an elite level right now and we are beating our Bama and UGA for recruits now.

I know it sucks losing to Mizzou, UT beating Bama, LSU, and UF in the same year can’t be dismissed. Everyone is made because Heupel has raised the expectations back to where they was before our decline. No one should be happy with 8-4 or 9-4, but it sure does beat where we was at 3-5 years ago. Give him time to build this team and everyone will be happy. Do I think change needs to be made, yes. But it’s not Heupel that needs to go.
I see quite a few teams on this list with better talent under achieving.

Well. The SEC is probably the closest thing to the NFL in college football today. It's the LOS where Tennessee is behind. I wouldn't worry about his record so much in those pee wee league's he coached in..This is a entirely different animal here..

I too like to judge COVID years

Hey Dan Mullen is still better than Kirby Smart right?
It’s Fing stupid
So he started with great players and Covid wrecked year 3
So he comes to a completely destroyed Tennessee and in his 3rd year is going to have the 2nd best record in the last 20something years.

Oh the horror. tmp.gif

Message to like ratio says all i have to say about this comment
I’m not saying 7-5 but he’s seen the schedule it’s going to be very tough if Heup doesn’t figure something out you have three road games Oklahoma Georgia and Arkansas then Bama and Florida at home

Nonsense. Apples to oranges. Milton is surrounded by seniors/juniors. He faced a cupcake schedule. He's been in college for 6 years and is physically/mentally mature. This is Milton's THIRD year in this system. Nico will be surrounded by youth and portal guys with maybe a few covid seniors, but nowhere near the experience of this years team. Nico's schedule will be much more difficult. Nico will be nowhere near as mature physically or mentally and what, 19 years old? Nico has been in this system for one season but little to no meaningful playing time. When I say there's no comparing the two situations, there's no question about it. I just hope Heupel is man enough not to use "youth" as an excuse for 6-6. He's had chances to get younger players into games but refused to do so. 6-6 or 7-5 won't be youth. It will be on the coaching and their resistance to get younger guys valuable playing time this season.

Not sure how you can say that. We don’t even know what the roster will look like. There will be a lot of portal movement .
Schedule is much tougher next year. Nico hasn't gotten valuable reps for seasoning/experience. As for the portal, that's a crap shoot. You're getting guys who are unhappy with playing time or just not good enough to get it at their current schools. Or they've got baggage and are looking for fresh starts. No guarantees that the guys you bring in will be any better than the kids you currently have. Case in point....Thornton. Everyone had him as a freak just tearing it up in this offense. He's been invisible for the most part. Now he's likely done for the season with an injury. The portal helps, but it can be fools gold.

I have never really paid attention to it, but it was just called to my attention. With coach Frost players he went 12-1, 10-2 at UCF. His first year with his recruits went 6-4. This, IMO isn’t a great look. We saw what a qb (Dobbs, for example) can do for a coach. I think Hooker was that qb. I would be lying if I wasn’t worried. Great coaches do not get obliterated like this in year 3. Great coaches don’t struggle with Virginia and Austin Peay.
Fulmer must have sucked
