Interesting Statistics

I was not skeptical on your statements before but now I am. You said you work at a university that has an average GPA for entrants of over a 3.9 and an average ACT of 31. If you really worked at this institution you would know that Sewanee's mean GPA is only 3.6 and the ACT range from lowest to highest quartile is 26-30. Far from a 31 mean. Second, saying that you worked as a cost accountant with only an economics degree is surprising. Prior to attaining a higher degree, I worked in accounting. I never met any entry-level cost accountant without an accounting degree. While you may be telling the truth, misrepresenting facts about the institution you are employed has made me question the validity of that assertion as well.

No I am stating the truth, I said the incoming freshman class. That was the statistic from this past fall's incoming freshman class. You are getting an average over a period of years with your statistic.

I know of many cost accountants without accounting degrees. Cost accounting is different than general ledger accounting. Much different. I also had a masters in management science. I don't have an accounting degree but could teach you many things about cost accounting.

And before you start calling me a liar, you better get your facts straight and comprehend the post a little better.

BTW, every single accountant I have known(those with accounting degrees) know very little about cost accounting and how to apply it to manufacturing. You want to discuss it more, PM me and I will enlighten you.

Married to a CPA...she audits a lot of manufacturing facilities.....she says that cost is where they put the accountants that can not think "big picture"......in other words.....hide them

are you really trying to argue that the average CPA doesn't know more about accounting than the non CPA accountant? i wouldn't trust my taxes with an accountant that wasn't a cpa let alone anything high level. this from the guy who thinks anyone with a higher education is brilliant?

Again, you pop off before reading the posts. No, I never said such. I said most CPAs have little understanding of manufacturing accounting. It is the truth. Never said anything about taxes.

No, it is not an average. That is the 2012 entering class. The most recent data available online. If you have more recent data for the 2013 class that can disprove my point, I would be happy to see it.

Do you think anyone with an accounting degree doesn't know that cost accounting is different from financial or tax accounting? You are preaching to the choir. And you could "teach [me] many things about cost accounting"? Come on. You are better than that.

First, reading comprehension is not a problem of mine. Maybe you should brush up on it as well. I merely pointed out that your assertions regarding Sewanee were wrong, leading me to doubt the credibility of other information you have put forth. If you reread my post you will see that I said that it is very possible that you could have been an entry-level cost accountant. My only assertion was that because I never met an entry-level cost accountant without an accounting degree (and I met many during numerous audits of large corporations) and because your admission statistics appear skewed, I question the validity of the information you have put forth in this thread.

And to imply that accountants know little to nothing about cost accounting is laughable. Cost accounting is just as much a part of the average accounting curriculum as is financial and tax accounting.

by the way...her first in class was from a University that is better THAN your snob ass little dump in the mountains of TN

I tell you that she does manufacuring audits, and you say she is FOS.......BRILLIANT

So? I know lots of CPAs. Very few, if any, had a clue in manufacturing accounting. It is a differnent world than what CPAs are generally used to in their day-to-day activities. Shut the F up? LOL. Fact. If your wife really said what you stated, then she is stupd

Cost accounting is just a process.....no harder or more difficult to understand than any other specialized field....I realize that saying it is makes you feel important.......she would have you run out of any company that she audited

calling that university an elite institution is the same as calling USC an elite institution. something any southern californian would laugh their arse off at.

i'm saying you are full of ****

I wouldn't classify Sewanee as a dump.

I believe I just did. I grew very close to there, I know the campus very well. It is a dump compared to alot of Universities, especially the one that my wife attended.

I spent two weeks every year with a CPA from a big six(back then big six, I think there are only four now) firm. Generally speaking, there was much information that had to be explained unecessarily to them. In regards to your wife's ignorant statment, very few, if any, general ledger accountants at manufacturing facilities have a grasp of the operation door-to-door. Most CPAs have very little understanding of activity based cost accounting. They like it, so they badmouth it, but it is the most accurate means to cost products at a manufacturing plant vs. a standard general ledger costing system.

BTW, I was offered jobs by Touch&Deloitte, Price Waterhouse and Arthur Anderson before deciding upon Nissan

You're a real idiot. I have never heard anyone call it a dump. If fact, most who have been around and travelled will tell you it is one of the most beautiful campuses in the US. You and your wife sound like a couple of real rubes if you think Sewanee is a dump.

The CEO of Nissan has very little knowledge about how to weld doors shut. that doesn't make the line guy smarter. sounds to me like plain jealousy which makes a lot of sense. you seem to have problems with people who accomplish things themselves.

I don't think your opinion is too qualified in this matter, especially if you can make such an ignorant and redneck comment. Where did your wife attend college?

She was never a general ledger accountant. She did not badmouth the job, just *******s like you that think the place can not run without you.

Took a job that you would not have to pass the test, huh?

You've got to be joking. Touche&Deloitte? If you knew anything you were talking about, you would at least get the name of the third largest accounting firm in the world correct.

Actually, the CEO at Nissan has a lot of knowledge of how to weld doors shut. You speak of things for which you have no clue as if you have a clue.

Why would I have a problem with people who accomplish things themselves? Show me one post where I am derogatory towards someone with accomplishments. LOL at you.

I forgot. I took about a year off from it due to joevol and gsvol stormtrooping in with ignorance and copy-pasting respectively.

This is more entertaining though.

That would make anyone want to leave.
