Invitation to USU Fans

It certainly looks like y'all have some nice receivers.

We've played against a few too. I think Marquise Lee rolled up 50 or 60 yards on us.

We won't tend to play conservative and try to keep things in front of us.

The coaches will call for a lot of mayhem on the front end of the defense with multiple fronts, multiple coverages, and plenty of stunts and blitz packages.

Your QB (whoever that turns out to be) won't have time to stand back there and see things develop. He'll be hit and knocked down, and hurried all game long.

The back end will lock up on their guys playing a lot of man coverage. Somehow, they have been able to get it done against some pretty decent teams. I suppose we will find a way to get it done against UT.

The last time a P5 team put up 40 on us was @ Defending National Champion Auburn in 2011. Maybe UT is already that good...

You mean the 8-5 Tigers (after bowl win)? The ones who squeeked by on all of their wins?

They put 42 on yall, but only put up 35 on Samford and 30 on FAU. Using some of the crazy logic your fans have seemed to use so far, this means that Samford and FAU had a better D than yall that year. (I dont know if I believe that though). Out of all of the teams they played that year, UVA is the only team they scored more on.... by 1 point.

Yeah... we probably are that good. We could end up 8-5 after a bowl win.

There has been some serious talent in the football world the past few years. In 2012 there was a DB named David Amerson who would have just eaten our WR's alive. Our WR's wouldn't have had a catch all game long if they had played against him! And the QB on his team was a guy named Mike Glennon, boy oh boy he would have just picked us apart. Thank God we never had to play his team.

Last year there was a running back named Antonio Andrews who would have just ran all over UT's sad defense. He was VERY quick and would have scored on every possession. We have never seen a running back as good as him!! We would have gotten slaughtered by his team, even though it was a team in a crap conference.

Ever heard of Trumane Johnson??? Best DB EVER!!! Would have picked off anything thrown his way by UT. We would have either had to run the ball on every down, or get shut out.

I remember in 2011 there was a team that had Isaiah Pead AND Zach Collaros on it. There was more talent between those two than UT had ever encountered in the entire existence of the program. Had they gotten their shot at us, we would have been absolutely destroyed.

The University of Tennessee..... the most underestimated program (by fans of crap programs) in the country. Can we change the channel? I feel like I've watched this show every year for a while now.

Boom.

Glad to see Aggie50 I've mentioned here on VN a few times about the nastiness, strength, and war-like attitude of Poly players. I don't think many here take me seriously about it because they haven't see such guys up close and personal as I have. If our OL isn't ready by game time, they will be darn quick during or after the game when they experience the furious assault of the Polys.

All those Polys on the Hawaii team were really tough last year. Ask Army ...... but only Army

Thanks. Sounds like your secondary will be just fine this year. I think the Swindall-Sutton battle will be fun to watch. I think this will be a good match up/test for our receivers. Lets be honest, if our guys can get open against your secondary, they're going to torch anyone in the MWC. Hopefully we can do a decent job at preparing you guys for the SEC.

Brian Randolph. Remember the name. Safety. UT comes in to the season with two seasoned safety's. Ladarrell McNeil and Brian Randolph. McNeil is the decleater and will absolutely get the receivers attention. Randolph is more the sniper than the head hunter. If CK isn't spot on, Randolph will get his picks. Both, IMO, will play money ball one day but Randolph is sneaky fast.

Virtually nobody believes McNeil will start at safety from what I've been hearing and reading. A true freshman, either TKJr or McDowell, maybe even Gaulden will start opposite Randolph. If McNeil's gonna decleat anybody it will more than likely be on special teams IMO.

I'm an optimist and still think that LM has the nose to compete for the starting spot. If TK or Mac beat him out for the starting spot, more power to us. IF LM brings the quick like Brian, it will be tough to beat him out of the spot. Anyway we look at it, it's all good because of one thing - depth.

If that scares you, you have a lot more to be scared at versus our receivers.

SO. North (6'4" 221)- All SEC Freshman. He was a Wildcat QB in HS if I remember correctly and didnt know much about the WR position coming in. He made a handful of amazing catches that made SC Top 10. The coaches have said he has made huge improvements now that he knows the position. Rivals ranked him a 6.0 4*, #37 overall and #2 WR

FR. Malone (6'3 202)- I guess you know a little about Malone. Coaches are raving about him. Rivals ranked him 6.1 5*, #27 overall and #4 WR. Was an early enrollee

JR. Pearson (6'3 181)- JUCO early enrollee. Made SC Top 10 for a catch during spring practice. Very athletic, quick, shifty and can jump. Ankle breaker. Had 90 catches for 1,598 and 12 TDs in JUCO. Rivals ranked him a 6.0 4*

SO. Croom (6'5 234)- Big and physical. Reports have said that "it finally clicked with him". He finally realized hes bigger than everyone else. Coaches are pushing him to get North and South and run over people. I expect him to just destroy DBs in run blocking. Rivals ranked him 5.8 4*, #246 overall and #41 WR.

SO. Smith (6'1 197)- Started a lot of games as a freshman. Tends to get open and has good seperation but suffered from a few drops last season. Wasnt highly ranked coming out of HS.

Im not going to include guys like Howard (not sure if hes still on the team) and Jenkins (injury)

You're receiver corps scares the hell out of this Aggie fan. You're big; we're small---and relatively inexperienced. We've put a few DBs in the leaque the past few years, but we've never gone against a receiving corps with your combination of speed and size. I'm concerned. On the other hand, Fresno State had a first rate passing attack last year and we held them reasonably in check. It will be interesting, for sure.

Feel free to bring as much pressure as you want! Jones loves running wheel routes with TE, RB out of the backfield. You get to see them running for 10-20 yards per play. Feel free to play man to Man too. I'll take our big WR over your CB all game. Hope your S can tackle as he's going to be seeing a lot of Hurd, Lane and our other RB all game as our OL mauls your DL. Bring as many stunts as you want, cause something tells me we are going to line up and establish the LOS and an identity on O. I hope your LB can run as he's going to have to cover TE and RB after being mauled by our OL.
Chuckie Keeton may have been a Heisman candidate last year, but I'd say it's going to be him running for his life and getting hit a lot, knocked down and hurried all game.
Enjoy the game!

Our offensive skill players seem to be our best group this year. Our Freshmen TEs, Daniel Helm and Ethan Wolf will also be weapons in the pass game. Especially Helm. Along with our RBs. Hurd (RB) is 6'3 230ish and ran a 4.37 40 (laser). I expect him to make some plays in the pass game too. Young (RB) has been both a WR and RB while at UT. He is quick and shifty. My biggest question for this game is how well yalls LBs will do against the TEs, RBs and slot receivers in passing downs.

Honestly not trying to run down McNeil. Just relaying information/opinions of virtually everyone close to the program/who covers the program who spoken about it. They all expect him to be beaten out by one of the talented freshmen coming in this summer.

C-Mack Crowder, also played some last yr, supposedly has stepped up as the leader of the OL, a little undersized but tough IMO
JR or SR

Isn't Crowder 6'2" 290 ?

Here is what one of the greatest NFL recruiters of all time, Bill Walsh said about CENTERS, "A CENTER's Ideal size is 6-2, 290"
The center is typically the key man in making line calls. Those calls are vital and there is no way you can do without them. With the constant changes in defenses there has to be communication on your offensive line and obviously your center is the man to do it.

So the center must have command of the offensive line blocking system and of the game plan and of the individual players defensively they are facing. He must be able to do all that.

Centers don't often have to block one-on-one with the nose tackle, but if they can it is a great advantage. You typically slide a lineman or find a way to help the center. Or he finds a way to help someone else. Now if you have a center who can isolate one-on-one with a nose tackle, it takes tremendous pressure off your guards and everyone else.

Dwight Stephenson who had a short, great career with Miami, was one like that. Mike Webster, who had a long, distinguished career with Pittsburgh, was one of the best.

Many people believe that a shorter center is better. Again you must have girth, maybe less than the other linemen. Being shorter helps you do a great number of things in a very small area. A big body just becomes a hindrance. It's like a jockey weighing more than 150 pounds. You need a center who is so quick that he can move in between people. Shorter guys can do that better than taller, rangy guys.

"A Center needs Attitude, Balance, Footwork, Bend, Agility, Punch, Intelligence, Discipline"

Ideal Size? 6'2" 290

I thought he was like 280. Not that its a huge deal just saying he seems a lot smaller than james stone, josh mcneil, etc.

UT's WR's vs USU's DB's is the critical match up in the game. Otherwise, I could probably buy some of the arguments that USU will make a close game of it. Pound for pound. Step for step. You simply don't have the DB's to cover UT's WR's. The TE position for UT should be improved in receiving. Lane has always been a good receiver out of the backfield and now has other good receivers with him at RB. Your safeties and LB's will have to cover those guys rather than giving alot of help outside.

We won't tend to play conservative and try to keep things in front of us.

If UT is 3 wide with a TE then doing that isolates your CB's on UT's WR's. You'll have to cover RB's and TE's with safeties and LB's.

UT runs the same kinds of screens that have helped you succeed. If you are in a blitz when UT runs one... all your guys will see are big gainers.

Your QB (whoever that turns out to be) won't have time to stand back there and see things develop. He'll be hit and knocked down, and hurried all game long.
You have a new DL, correct? I know you are proud of your LB's. They may be a very good group. UT plays against future NFL LB's practically every week. You keep trying to act as if USU brings something that UT has never seen before... you don't.

That Auburn team scored its second highest total for the season against you. Only UVA gave up more points to them in their bowl. They only scored 26 ppg for the season.

UT is more than likely better than that Auburn team was at that point. At the skill positions in total... UT is probably ALOT more talented.

Source?

I need a good laugh..

Orlando bloom and Mark Walberg said he's spot was safe on 96.5 the mountain.

Ok. You think McNeill is gonna be the starting safety opposite Randolph. Those other guys disagree with you. Guess we'll know in about 4 months.

On what ability are they basing this off of?

Their cover skills on 16 year old WR that are working at Bilo right now?
