iPhone vs. Droid

Verizon or At&t? Never heard much good about Sprint.

Had Straight Talk for a couple of years and am ready to have customer service again and an awesome device.

I like Verizon better mainly because I can't get any service with AT&T because the tower is further away.I'm in a very rural area so being closer to a tower is very important.

Both of these carriers have good devices.Honestly you can't lose with going with an iphone,or some of the android phones. Verizon has a ton of Android devices. You have 14 days to return a phone if you don't like it,but you better make sure you like the second phone because you don't have a 14 day return period with that one....you are stuck with it.

As for Straight talk they are cheap but the phones are sub-par. Straight talk is usually either running on Sprint or AT&T towers. My friend has Straight Talk and it was on Sprint because it was running on a CDMA chip, but he took it back and got another phone and it was an AT&T phone running HSDPA chip. This is geek speak, but it's how you know who the carrier is because of the different technology they use,and with 4G it's even more complicated.

Oh yeah you can go to the carriers website and put in your address and it will show you a map of how good your coverage is(usually pretty accurate)and you can check and see if you have a 4G tower in your area.

I'm sick as a dog,so I haven't got anything else to do but post and ramble on VN. :)

Yes, it has a really good speaker, and in my experience the iphone gets a much better signal than any of the Droid phones I've had. By the way I'm a computer geek, not a fan boi for Apple. I do own a lot of their products but I still us other OS and IMO the Android OS is the most powerful as compared to iOS,but the build quality of the iphone is far superior.
That obviously differs with each Droid phone. Not only that but considering you have four or five major manufacturers all producing Droid phones while Apple can only release one a year at most (and that may slow down -- Apple is in for a rough winter with the PR they're facing ATM), the build quality of the iPhone might be the best when it's released but it doesn't last for more than a few months at best. By that point somebody's released a phone with a better screen and far more power.

I'm somewhat happy with my iphone, but I love the Android OS and the Nexus phones.Samsung makes a beautiful screen.Samsung is the only Android phone brand that I've not owned. I've had 3 HTC's and 2 Motorola's.
HTC was the power player with Droid 1.0's, they were fantastic at the time. They've really slipped behind though. I own a Samsung Incite (gotta have the huge screen) and from all I've seen, the GSII is spectacular. I've been leery of Motorola's because they have a long history of producing POS, but I just bought my girl a 2.0 Droid Moto with a slideout keyboard, so we'll see how that lasts.

It basically breaks down like this... Verizon tends to have broader coverage, so if you're out in the sticks at all, it's probably the way to go. The big downside is that their cell tech is only used in the US, as opposed to AT&T and T-Mobile which work in nearly any civilized country on the planet.

As for AT&T, I have poked around and looked at data speeds compared to a few of my friends with Verizon (in downtown Portland) and it did do better than Verizon. Also, should you decide to bring your phone out of the country to Japan for instance, you could use it there, though it will be expensive. The downside is less coverage.

Verizon is going to LTE and away from CDMA (so is Sprint)and they are moving quickly towards it. I find AT&T to be slow at building out the network.

No doubt, I think they are still reeling in many ways from the explosion of the iPhone.

But don't discount Apple's PR situation right now. Many of their products have basically been built in sweatshop conditions. They're already reacting to it by demanding better workers conditions from whoever they do business with in China. The potential for price increase isn't so great as the fact that their producers will lose some agility in the production process, meaning Apple won't be able to get new products into the market as quickly as they have.

Lol. Find a phone that's not assembled in china or has a component from there. You're really reaching with your last 2 posts. Of course there's an android coming out every week but the iPhone is far from becoming obsolete.

cc coming strong at the straw man yet again.

My phone didn't concern Droids. But if it helps you so much, yes, I recognize a great number of phones are made in China (Samsung is not among them).

The point is that Apple is the one having to deal with the PR issue right now and how it was going to affect them.

I'll let you set your straw man back up now.

Omg. What a joke. Apple has pr issues when 99% of electronic devices are manufactured or assembled in china. Yea ok. It's not like people are gonna boycott anything especially Apple. When you're the best people look for anything to gripe about. Hell ps3, Xbox, & a bazillion other things are built in the same facility.

Actually people tend not to buy products once they know they are being made in inhumane conditions. The cell phone market is all about operating in the margins.

Apple has a PR issue that others don't.

Deal with it.

Dang dude you are clueless. I guess you don't own anything with a Nike swoosh. Even Samsung assembles & use parts from china. Apple doesn't have a pr issue the media just has something to talk about.

I want you to think very carefully about this sentence.

The media will say something. Apple may make a reply. Nothing will change. The only reason it's being mentioned is because of Apple's success & overwhelming demand. Every Chinese person that jumps off a roof doesn't assemble Apple products.

If I may add, many people don't keep up with very much of this stuff that y'all argue about in this thread.

If I wanted an iPhone instead of Droid right now, I would get one and haven't heard the first piece of bad PR.

I value my VN Brethren opinions over punk sales associates.

Apple does nothing any other manufacturer doesn't do. The pr bs is just because of Apple's overwhelming success. The world is what it is. There's a reason companies outsource to other countries & that's why our country is in shambles. It won't change in my lifetime so I'm not gonna worry myself to death over it.

Yeah,go with what YOU like. I'm just giving my opinion of what I own.Unless Apple or Google starts sending me money every month I'm not going to argue about it.:)

If you're wanting a slide out keyboard you will pretty much have to go with the Motorola Droid 3 or whatever it's called now. The first droid had a terrible slide out keyboard, but the later ones have been improved.

I totally agree with this, and I have a feeling we both are thinking the same thing on why the outsourcing is done.

I will say those people at Foxconn are being mistreated, but hopefully over time things will change. China has a lot to learn when it comes to not treating human beings like slaves. Apple isn't the only company doing this outsourcing so I'm not just blaming them, they all do it and it's shameful.

The sad part is those jobs shouldn't be in China anyway, but that's another topic.

So far you have been the most helpful in me making the laziest decision as possible. Exactly what I was looking for!

Hangin out on VN, soakin up the knowledge...

Glad I could be of some use. It's just my opinion on most of what I posted. I like both Android and the iphone, and and heck even the widows phone, they all have pluses and minuses.

If you decide to go Android, here is a good forum to check out. Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

I want a slide out keyboard that isn't a POS. Don't want to depend totally on a touchscreen.

:sigh:

It seems that you and I are in the minority. I like slider qwertys. Most people (I suppose) want touchscreens. I fat finger everything on touchscreens... or accidentally dial previous numbers.

keyboards are archaic.

if u still need one. samsung stratosphere, droid pro, and droid 4 soon to be released.

use a stylus.

motorola's latest launch once again is like the georia bulldogs fooball roster. it takes all the talent in the world with great hardware and ruins it with bad coaching. in this case software.

the droid maxx versus the iphone 4s, which in some form or matter has been out for eighteen months, is a funny comparison. iphone in almost every single test outperforms droid. the maxx is a spec monster and processing madhouse.

droid continually underperforma even when launching products faaaar superior on paper to an iphone. unbelievable.
