iPhone vs. Droid

Yea, I'm pretty clear on that now. It's the network and data plan...

Get the network that's best in your area & get the highest data plan you can. Usually only $10 difference. That is unless you're constantly around WiFi.

I was a 3 year iOS user, and loved it while I was on it. Now I am a PROUD owner of a Galaxy S 2 Skyrocket. No way I'd go back.

I noticed that the Motorola Droid Maxx uses Gingerbread and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus uses Ice Cream Sandwich. What's the difference?

Gingerbread is Android version 2.3.

Ice Cream Sandwich is the latest version and is 4.0. (3.0 was used on tables before ICS) Like Windows 98, XP, Windows7, etc.

The Razr Maxx will eventually be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich in the coming months. One minus might the non-removable battery.

The Galaxy Nexus is a great phone running the newest software.

can't wait for the new ice cream sandwich OS for my SGII

Perhaps you can argue it for another month.

Why? It's just your opinion versus mine. I don't speak for the masses but anybody can see the leader based on sales & popularity. Some androids are good phones but the only way I would switch is if I needed a bigger screen. I want a phone I can carry easily in my pocket. The max size for a phone IMO would be 4" & when the iPhone does that there will be no comparison. Again jmo. Some of you can't debate or have an argument without getting personal. The whole world doesn't revolve around a handful on volnation. If the guy wants to find the best phone for him get 1 iPhone & 1 droid for he & his wife.

Hilarious coming from you....

Open iTunes & plug iPod in. What you wanna do is put it in dfu mode. Do this by holding the home button & the lock button for 10 seconds exactly. Without letting go of the home button release the lock button & hold home button for another 10-15 seconds (ignore the slide to power off on the screen). A box should pop up & you should be able to restore.

Thanks.

any droid users know why i'm getting a lot of freezes and force closes lately? (droid x, gingerbread)

Same problem here, but it's time for an upgrade. My problems seemed to start after the Gingerbread transition. I have noticed that even after killing tasks, my memory usage stays at 80%+, often going near 95%. I think the OS and apps are just too much for the older phone.

I'm getting this as well. I have had my Droid for over 2 years and am going to upgrade in less than 2 months, just trying to find a phone I want.

Anybody know if I can root my old Droid and see if it will work a little better until I get my next phone? Also, whats the best way to do it? I've jailbroken many Ipods/Iphones but never rooted my Droid

I have an HTC inspire... What all themes and cool stuff is there for this phone?.. does gingerbread help this? Please help

You can root it. You can load different software.

Probably just need to hard reset the phone. Like Windows, sometimes things just get corrupted little by little, especially after software updates. So, a hard reset is like wiping your drive clean and installing a fresh copy of Windows.

Awesome, and that should make it run more quickly correct?

Also, do you have any good sources/tutorials to root it? Like I said, I have jailbroken iPod touches/iPhones, but never an Android device so I'm not sure the most reliable source on how to do it.

Thanks DrRR :hi:

xda-developers.com forums are fairly good when there's not drama happening. This has been the goto site for some good developers for years. Can be fairly technical.

This may work. [APP]SuperOneClick v2.3.3 - Motorola Exploit Added! - xda-developers

You'll basically root it. Download a new ROM. Go into recovery and make a backup. Then, wipe the device data and cache. Install new ROM, and enjoy.

Can be fun to try different ROMS.

Before you start...log into gmail and make sure all your contacts are there. If not, on the phone, go into contacts>menu>export to SD card. If you want to backup apps with data try looking at MyBackup and Titanium backup. If you just want to back up texts you can get SMS Backup by Ritesh on the market to export them to your SD card.
