iPhone

Samsung has the better interface. Screen, touch sensitivity, Samsung overlay are all superior IMO. Camera is a wash.

One has S4 beat as far as media-friendly features (speakers, etc); same price gets you 32gb internal if you have a need for a large app folder, and it's got a sturdier build than S4. Flip side is fixed battery and no expandable memory a'la iPhone.

On its own, I like S4 best as an all-rounder, there's just too many great features. HTC One is a good choice if media is your primary concern. I personally still have an iPhone but I keep an S3 kicking around too; but since I bought my MacBook Pro, I'm already fully in the Apple ecosystem which gives iPhone the edge for me personally. But straight across, S4 is better.

Thanks for the info - I'm in the Apple eco-system so that's the largest negative of switching but the screen size just ain't doing it for me.

My primary uses of my iPhone are phone of course, music, limited sophistication apps (weather, calculator, etc.) and reading news. I rarely use the Internet because the screen is just too small for use. Same for reading news to some extent. Might do more video if the screen was larger.

Too soon to tell if I'm going to switch.

On the issues of non-removable battery and no external storage for the HTC - I'm already in that boat with the iPhone. Can't really comment on Sense vs the Samsung overlay because either would be learning a new OS. At a minimum, I'll be waiting until One shows up at Verizon before I do any upgrading.

Really considering an install of ios7. Just hate to give up jailbreak, but most of the features I jailbroke for are included in ios7.

Decisions, decisions.

I'll admit, I'm just the kind of sap they're looking for. I'll do the upgrade, if for no other reason than to get that annoying ass push notification off my screen.

My wife dropped her 4s for the umpteenth time the other day. Finally shattered the screen. Luckily she was eligible for an upgrade. So we go to Verizon and get her a 5 for $199 + $30 upgrade fee.

I list her 4s on enay around midnight that night as an auction. Since they were ending for around $225 I decided to add a Buy It Now option of $249.99. By 8 am I already had two messages offering $200 and $215. I replied with a counter of $225 but within an hour it sold for the $249.99.

So after eBay and PayPal fees cleared about $220 making the upgrade for my wife's phone only about $10. That's a win.

They paid that much for the phone with a shattered screen? That's nuts. Good do you though

Apparently there is pretty big business in repair and resell of iPhones. When they aren't broke they fetch upwards of $400. The guy that bought it goes by the screen name "iphonebuyer1976". He had over 2000 transactions in the past 30 days.

I'm actually eligible for an upgrade too. I hadnt planned on upgrading for awhile but when the 5s gets announced I may just preorder it then sell my non busted 4s. Might even make a profit.

Sold my iPhone 2 (non 3g) for $215 when I bought the 3S. Couldn't for the life of me understand who wanted a 2 when they'd be stuck with that POS Edge network. Guess it was the metal back.

I'm getting ready to sell that 3S and I'm betting I get well over $100 even though the 5S will be out soon.

In the story I posted above, the iPhone 2 I sold more than paid for my upgrade to the 3S.

A buddy of mine that works for Verizon said the used smartphone business is booming because people are desperately trying to hang onto their unlimited data.

We sacrificed my wife's unlimited for the upgrade. She rarely uses over a GB anyway.

So after telling my mom about selling the cracked iPhone she gave me an 8GB iPhone 4 that she dropped in the pool last summer. It actually does turn on but will flicker randomly.

Anyway, I've already restored the phone to factory settings and it is on iOS 5.1.1. Meaning I can JB it.

So...opinions on if it would fetch more JB'n or should I just sell as is?

I've got a 4 that I'm holding out to upgrade. I was eligible in march, but I didn't want to be locked into the 5 when I could get the 5s. That said, the lock button and home button died yesterday. I was able to fix the home button, but this thing keeps crashing and hanging....I'm ready for something else. Can't wait for the new one to come out.
