I'm not clear on whether or not you'll be able to upgrade the OS on current phones. I get the feeling that you won't be able to. My 3G is a year and a half old already and my wi-fi recently went out. I may try and hold out until X-mas and hope for a good deal on a higher capacity model.

I have a 3GS that I've had about 2 months & I was told if u update ur OS version u won't be able to jailbreak it. Of course I'm sure somebody will figure out how to do it.

My wife's just blew up...
Won't sync, and when you try to restore, it gives an error code 13
Apple support said take it in tomorrow and they'll give her a new one

Also, got tired of short battery life (especially when using GPS) so I picked up an Energizer XP1000 portable charger/power pack today. I'll give it a shot and let you know how it works out. It's a rechargeable battery pack that you can plug your phone into for a fresh charge on the run. The 1000 is the base unit though and may not be powerful enough. We'll see.

About the battery pack I mentioned above.... it does a great job for the $20. I let my battery drop until the phone died and then plugged in the pack. I got an 85% charge in about 45 minutes. Serves my needs. It also comes pre charged so you can buy and use immediately in a pinch.

45 min??? that seems like a long time, and its not even fully charged...wow!!

That's not too bad for a completely discharged battery plus I was using the phone during that time. This is the smallest of all the batteries though. They have several sizes that will charge anything up to a laptop. This is basically an emergency back-up just in case...

Info on OS4:



iPhone OS 4 will work with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the second- and third-generation iPod touch this summer, and with iPad in the fall. Not all features are compatible with all devices. For example, multitasking is available only with iPhone 3GS and the third-generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB models from late 2009).

Haven't tried everything but so far it's pretty nice. The folders are a huge space saver. Went from about 10 pages to 4. Dabbled with the multiple apps but not messed with it too much but seems like it will come in handy. Battery life is pretty much the same. The homescreen wallpaper is nice. The camera upgrade is nice too coulda saved me from wasting a buck or 2 a while back.

Is the digital zoom on the camera just a software update or just on the new phone? I updated the software last night and I can't figure out how to make that work.

It's a software update. It works on my 3GS running iOS 4.

I like the update, especially multitasking. At this point it's just a matter of waiting for apps to update with multitasking support.

Folders are nice too.
