How'd you like 42?
It was excellent. The only movie I've ever been to where everyone clapped at the end of it. Though seeing Harrison Ford play a benevolent old rich guy is a bit weird. I expect it to win a few awards both for the subject matter and how good some of the acting was (particularly the man playing Jackie.)
The only thing that kind of bothered me about it was how eerily similar it seemed to how today's events with gay/lesbian rights are, especially with the news that we may have some gay football players coming out soon. There are three or four scenes where people use "God says love thy neighbor" lines to defend Robinson, and some people even clapped at the end of those scenes, and I just couldn't help but wonder if those same people would stand up for the rest of the injustice going on today.
But then again I'm a bit abnormal so I'm sure very few people thought of it that way.
I liked Ford in it, he was good. And as far as clapping after the movie, when i saw it, people were clapping throughout the whole movie. Very annoying.
Sorry i hijacked the IM3 thread lol

I agree. if it were a play or live show... maybe. but even then not till the end of a scene.
But I had an old white lady who smoked far too much talking throughout the whole movie trying to explain things to her grandkids when something "controversial" would happen. I wouldn't be shocked if she didn't live through some of the stuff honestly.

Yeah, I'm sure Jason Collins is going to be hated by everyone in the league and have stuff thrown at him everywhere he goes.
The civil rights/gay rights movements don't even compare to each other.
I've heard this argument before, and its completely wrong. It's not as severe, no, but it is the movement of my generation and the last one to be done. There was no excuse for women to not be able to vote, no excuse for minorities to be hated against like they were, and no excuse for gays and lesbians to not be able to have the same exact rights. Just because it's not to the same degree doesn't mean its not just as important. Equal rights for all or equal rights for none, and it is still an enormous deal in today's day and age considering the population that thinks being born with the hormonal imbalance and genetic defects that causes homosexuality are going to hell.
But even moreso, you missed my point entirely. I said "I wonder how many of those same people who think discriminating against jackie robinson for being black would stand up and support anyone for being gay." Discrimination is discrimination, and saying discriminating blacks or hispanics is bad but discriminating gays is perfectly ok is just completely hypocritical and pathetic as a human being. That's the point I was making, how many of these people are actually good and how many were just told that the other thing was bad.
