Iron Man 3

MAJOR SPOILERS HERE

I don't see how they are keeping him in the Avengers if he had his chest plate removed which was his power source and all. Sure, they can have him invent another power source, but that would require decent writing and Pepper to not do what all superhero wives do. Just too much forced retconning for the next avengers movie really. And they can't have it set as a prequel because all of his problems are as a result of his trip into the wormhole (again, would've been an excuse to infect him with Extremis and fix his mental problems, but NOOOO).

END SPOILERS

yeah. I'm a bit of a nerd for this stuff. so, eh.

All of the suits have individual arc reactors.

All of the suits are powered off of the same arc reactor he has. Unless they suddenly changed this premise in the 3rd movie and nowhere else. The only time they weren't powered by the one in his chest was the short time they let him be infected with the Extremis virus in the comics and the suit went inside his bones. And even then the arc reactor was still visible.

The whole point of the arc reactor is "Surgery is impossible, it's too close to the heart" blah blah. They just deus ex machina'd the entire point of tony stark really by giving him that surgery.

They're going to make a 4th and I fully expect Downey to retain the role in Avengers 2 and Iron Man 4. He's making way too much money off those not to.

But Marvel, and its CEO Ike Perlmutter, "give new meaning to the term stingy," says Deadline. The word is, they've recast the Hulk three times. Don't think they won't entertain the possibility of swapping out Downey for someone cheaper. In fact, the threat of recasting is how they've managed to keep prices down on the rest of the cast. While RDJ cleans up — by the way, Deadline says that the $50 million figure is now closer to $70 million or $80 million — according to an insider, "Some received only $200,000 for Avengers." Also, when it was time to renegotiate salaries for the second round of stand-alone Marvel movies, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth were initially offered only half-million-dollar raises. After some fierce negotiations, they got salaries more in line with the successes of their movies. Says another Deadline source, "Marvel has created so much animosity by strong-arming and bullying on sequels already. It's counterproductive."

Coming around full circle, it's apparently Downey who stands up for his cast mates and their piddling little cash stacks. Says Deadline:

I've learned the Avengers cast are becoming united behind Robert Downey Jr. who is seen as the "leader" — "like a big brother" in the words of one rep — for all the younger actors in the ensemble. "He's the only guy with real power in this situation. And balls of steel, too. He's already sent a message that he's not going to work for a place where they treat his colleagues like ****," one source explains. Another rep tells me, "I have four words for Marvel — '**** you, call Robert.'"
So you have a studio famous for playing hardball despite all its success, and a guy who's made more money than he could have ever imagined and has already expressed interested in hanging up the superhero shtick in a couple of years. Now does that sound like the recipe for a warm working relationship? I'm just saying: If I were a big-name actor who could do both comedy and action and didn't mind taking over a franchise three movies in, I'd maybe start seeing how I looked in that trapezoid Tony Stark goatee sooner rather than later.

.....so the arc reactor in War Machines' suit is also powered by Tony's chest piece?

Them leaving themselves some room to operate without RDJ is only practical at this point.

I thought/got that it was supposed to be implied that he took the finalized/corrected version of the extremis virus (not the crazy red glowing earlier version, but what was said he fixed), in order to be able to get the surgery

SPOILER

Yeah, I walked away thinking that Downey may be done as tony stark

I felt they were giving him a finale/send off just in case he didn't come back; it was his role in this franchise that started the marvel cinematic universe anyways

I felt the same way. RDJ is in negotiations for Avengers 2 and 3, seems like they are leaving themselves an out if negotiations fall through.

That's war machine. Not Iron man. Two completely different people.

That's like Saying Batman and Robin are the same person (except for the time that did happen... but eh. Comics).

I'm just saying. The surgery ruined the weakness of Iron man, which was his limited power supply from the arc reactor and the entire reason he was what he was. There's a reason the comics don't do it, or that if they do something like it, they retcon it with a reboot very quickly. It was done to give a nice tidy ending to a string of movies that the average TV person watches, nothing more.

I've read somewhere that RDJ will pull in 80m on this movie alone. And that he goes to bat for the other actors when it comes to pay scales.

Think of him as the marvel universe' defacto union boss.

...Disney wont put up with that for too long.

Now that I think of it, the kid (moreso, his character) from IM3 would make a nice protege in a few years.

He got a lot of screen time for a secondary character.

I agree. All the stories I've heard of RDJ is that he is a complete badass and a total bro. In real life and for actors.

I still remember when they announced he would be tony stark I thought there wasn't possibly a better guy for that role.

I didn't care too much for Kingsley's role. The whole movie was filled with misdirection, almost too much. That being said, better than the second, on par with the first.

Just watched it today. I thought it was great. I'm not a comic book junkie so I don't know how this compares to that, but as just a movie series I think it was very good. I also gotta sy I'm looking forward to the next Thor movie

Thor was surprisingly good. Natalie Portman helped, or course.
I just hope they dont remake Batman like they have Spiderman I reefuse to watch that.

It's ok. It's a lateral remake. No better, no worse. I personally thought Toby McGuire was doing a great job as spider man. The only thing is they totally botched Venom in the McGuire series, so I'll watch this one just to give them a chance to do Venom the right way.

I would kill for some sinister six and/or madame webb.

Just do Venom right and have him lead into Carnage. They could totally take this series in an awesomely dark direction with Carnage.

And throw Black Cat in there because she is one of the hottest animated chicks since Jessica Rabbit.

Sequels to all the superhero movies leading up to The Avengers 2. Supposed to involve the Guardians of the Galaxy too. Which I'm very iffy about.....
Guardians of the Galaxy is getting it's own standalone movie. Filming begins next month and due to release before Avengers 2. It's also been confirmed the two will not interact.

This was already said earlier in the thread and I don't think it's true. Thanos was shown at the end of The Avengers. Thanos is the enemy of the GotG. I don't see how they could not interact.

Saw Iron Man on Friday. I thought it was good but not the best. I enjoyed the movie though and can't wait to see Avengers 2.
