I read them saying that Guardians of the Galaxy wasn't really building up to anything in Avengers 2; just that it would show how large the marvel universe really was

I would feel much better about that.

Edit: Actually I'm going to dispute this. The Avengers ended with a short scene showing Thanos who is the enemy of the Guardians of the Galaxy. So surely they're connecting them.

MAJOR SPOILERS HERE

I don't see how they are keeping him in the Avengers if he had his chest plate removed which was his power source and all. Sure, they can have him invent another power source, but that would require decent writing and Pepper to not do what all superhero wives do. Just too much forced retconning for the next avengers movie really. And they can't have it set as a prequel because all of his problems are as a result of his trip into the wormhole (again, would've been an excuse to infect him with Extremis and fix his mental problems, but NOOOO).

I walked away thinking that this was the end of the Iron Man series, but Downey as Tony Stark/Iron Man will return in the Avengers sequel.

They're going to make a 4th and I fully expect Downey to retain the role in Avengers 2 and Iron Man 4. He's making way too much money off those not to.

I definitely agree that he'll be in Avengers 2, but I hadn't heard that there may/will be an Iron Man 4, and I don't follow the comics so I may have missed out on hints/plotlines within the movie.

RDJ is great as Iron Man, let's just say he doesn't come back, who would take his role as Tony Stark?
