General Neyland was hired primarily to come in and beat Vandybilt. After getting dogged by Vandybilt, Butch Jones was hired......

History repeats itself.

J/K in a way but really, Butch Jones looks very similar to General Neyland. The two men just really do resemble on another...

Butch Jones will have a similar record percentage wise to the General after it's all said and done!!

Slow your roll hoss. I'm sure CBJ will do great things for UT but you're comparing him to Neyland without a single SEC game played. Be optimistic, but not that optimistic.

Look Butch seems to be on the right track to winning some football games and turning us around but Come On Man you can't be comparing him to Neyland. SMH.. That is just HORRIBLE!!!

Neyland is widely regarded as the best defensive mind in the HISTORY of college football. He was named the defensive coach of the ALL CENTURY TEAM. Some of his peers considered him the best all around college coach of ALL TIME. IIRC Knute Rocne (sp.) was one of those who felt that way. Other than that, perhaps you're on to something.?.?.?

Holy Hell! Let the man get through one season before you start comparing him to one of the greatest college coaches in history.

Besides BJ being an offensive coach and Neyland being a defensive coach, yes I see the physical similarities. The mental aspect is yet to be decided.

I love everything he is doing on the Hill right now, as for Neyland part 2? I wouldn't mind that at all, although the bammer nation would end up in the fetal position crying for years to come.
To quote the great Mr. Bryant.... "People think I'm the greatest damn coach in the world, but Neyland taught me everything I know."
The Bear coached against Neylands teams seven times and NEVER beat him. " I never beat him, but I learned alot from playing him."

Butch was hired to beat vandy?

Sweet fancy moses

Didn't read that...we get schooled by Vandy and we hire Butch...meanwhile back at the Hall of Justice...General Neyland was hired at a time when Vandy was a superior program...that and a physical resemblance were the only parallels brought up by the op
