This thread will be fun to visit when CBJ wins 10 games this year, Saban retires, and Bammer hires CBJ away from us.

General Neyland was hired primarily to come in and beat Vandybilt. After getting dogged by Vandybilt, Butch Jones was hired......

History repeats itself.

J/K in a way but really, Butch Jones looks very similar to General Neyland. The two men just really do resemble on another...

Never noticed before that they share a widow's peak.
That V on the forehead must be a good sign.

Butch Jones will have a similar record percentage wise to the General after it's all said and done!!

Put down the crack pipe and step away from the ledge. CBJ hasn't even coached a Tennessee game yet, and you're wanting to compare him to the General? You are outta your ever lovin' mind. Optimism is one thing, complete insanity is totally different. Someone remind me, what was Neyland's streak of games where his defense allowed no points? The General is a legend. It will take CBJ a lot of time and a lot of wins before he can even be mentioned in the same breath as General Neyland. At this point, you can't even compare CBJ to Fulmer in his prime. Stop putting the cart before the horse and let's see how things play out.

From wikipedia:

Sports Illustrated named Neyland as the defensive coordinator of its all-century college football team in its "Best of the 20th Century" edition.[3] 112 of his victories came via shutout. In 1938 and 1939, Neyland's Vols set NCAA records when they shut out 17 straight opponents for 71 consecutive shutout quarters. His '39 squad is the last NCAA team in history to hold every regular season opponent scoreless.

The Bammers never got the next Bear they were looking for, but they got Saban instead.

Other than the fact Saban can't publicly be the tough SOB Bear was, he probably is their new Bear. Think about it. Most of the NCAA rule book was written to outlaw Bear's tactics. Now they're rewriting it to add Saban rules. :loco:

Thank you! I knew his streak was something outrageous like that. How does any modern day coach compete with that? Quite simply, they don't.

I hope to God it turns out this way. But I find it funny how I get bashed for saying that this fan bases blind optimism gets out of control. All it does is set them up for a downward spiral of disappointment when it doesn't turn out the way they imagine. We just saw how it crashed and burned this past season. Smh.

Meine Gott in Himmel. I hope you are right but I have heard various nere-do-well award six or seven incoming coaches in the past given this same wishfull corarnation. None have come close to the General. Maybe and hopefully, Butch is the man. I have my fingers, toes, legs and arms crossed wishfully.

Time will tell but I hope you are right!!!!!!

Well, good then. If CBJ turns out to be a legendary coach, we can save some money and just add a name to the statue we've already got.

I'm not sure which is more sad, this post, or the fact that 3 other ruhtards "liked" it.
