Is Butch loosing his appeal in with Tennessee recruits?

No. The talent level in the state of Tennessee this year isn't what it was last year. Only a few of these players were heavily recruited. I have included an excerpt from

Missing on Top OL Target Drew Richmond Major Blow for Tennessee Recruiting | Bleacher Report

Thus far, UT has just two of Tennessee's top 10 players. That number is skewed because the Vols didn't recruit as many in-state players as they did a season ago.

But the Vols were actively involved at one point in recruiting Richmond, Rico McGraw (Alabama) and Van Jefferson (Georgia), who chose other schools.

Kyle Phillips is the only undecided player in the top 10, and the Vols desperately need to get him in the fold at strong-side defensive end.

I hope the link section worked, I haven't tried posting one before.

So, no I don't think coach Jones has "loost" his appeal.

I only read your excerpt but just from that I can tell you the author of this article is misguided. Jefferson, as much as we wanted him, took a look at our depth chart and couldn't see himself contributing. He point blank said that when he made his decision. And I've never heard anything about us showing interest in McGraw. Maybe the staff felt like they were in on better players than him. Neither Jefferson nor McGraw fill a major position of need when you look at the O line and D line. And we've recruited those positions pretty well this far but we aren't through yet

I've avoided the recruiting forum today because I knew that overreactions like this would be on here...Of the players the OP mentioned that we wanted and are currently committed elsewhere Richmond is the only one that we ever lead for and should be considered a big miss...With McGraw you had the DeVinner interference and Jefferson is just not a position of serious need. Richmond hurts but as has been pointed out many times on here, he will still take OV's and Butch Jones and staff are not going to stop recruiting him. Maybe it's a long shot but you never know. And to Oregon Vol, who suggested that Butch can only recruit legacy players there is ample evidence to the contrary (Preston Williams, Quentin Dormady and hopefully Shy Tuttle in three weeks)... I really wish a 1,000 minimum for starting threads would be enforced here - it is mostly newbies and trolls who start threads like this. And to Volteacher, if you want to identify yourself as an educator, fine but it would be more convincing if you spelled correctly.

That's laughable considering last years so called "Legacy class" is made up of less then 25% legacy players. Not landing Richmond sucks but he is from Memphis so it's not surprising. I never really considered Jefferson an in state product since he has only lived in Tennessee for a couple of years. Technically I guess he is but he didn't grow up following UT football like other in state kids have.

What a disaster of a thread.

This is a top ten class currently which is about to add another 5 star DT in Tuttle to it. With McKenzie, Williams, Tuttle you would think that no one would criticize the recruiting efforts of Jones but you lose one kid from Memphis and the morons are out in full force.

If this needs to go in the recruiting forum please move it, but I just thought this was very interesting with the OL Drew Richmond going to Ole Miss. So I looked at ALL the 4 star or better players according to rivals and 9 out of 12 were going to teams other than Tennessee (with 1 still undecided).

Is this a trend of what is to come for Tennessee and they are not national ranked like Alabama, Ole Miss, and Georgia (BUT VANDY come ON!!!!!).

Or is this just a off year of kids that just wanted to go to a top 5 school and win a National Title no matter what??

Here is the list from rivals. Last year we got like 8 out of 11 and though this year we might get 8/12 or 9/12. Just think it is odd

NO!NO!NO!NO!
8 or 9 out of 12 is outstanding and at least CBJ & staff are looking to keep them! Doolaid didn't care or seek any of the kids in state.

LOOSING???? :thud:

:loco:

Who cares what state a recruit comes from? There is a reason we are the VOLUNTEERS.

This hand wringing over in-state commits is so foolish.

Get the guys that fit your system whether its Topeka or Tonga.

Volteacher and can't spell losing.

It is called (P.T.) or playing time. If I am a 5* recruit and I can go to Alabama and be red shirted my freshman season.
Then play special teams my freshman season. Then play linebacker at the end of the 4th quarter, in blow out games, during my sophomore year.

Then maybe, I can get significant playing time my junior season and be a started my senior season OR

I can go to U.T. and be an immediate contributor as a freshman and probably start as a sophomore, then I go to U.T.

We have been selling Immediate Playing Time to these recruits but now the roster is starting to get full soooooo
the recruits are, in some cases, looking to go elsewhere for immediate playing time....

Losing appeal?

:eek:lol:

Gee, this could be said for every state. They don't all stay at home for different reasons. Do you follow recruiting. See where we are? Not to shabby. :hi:

GO VOLS!

You'll forget about him in time as the "Jack" and "Zach" attack will be opening those huge holes in a few short years and our elite running backs will enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Be like watching Charlie Garner against UK at Commonwealth again.

Volnation rules on instate prospects

1. If that commit to us.. They are underrated by all the services and were always high on "Their" board.
2. If they goes anywhere else. It was not a position of need and they do not fit our system or they were paid by other schools.

This thread be like....

Be easy on the OP he has only been posting for a little over a year.

OP we DONT and HAVE NEVER missed out on a recruit, we ALWAYS STOP recruiting them because they dont fit what our staff is trying to do here.
This even goes back to Fulmer.

Case in point we DIDNT want Von Bell because we KNEW he would choke in the 4th quarter as he did last saturday night.

PERFECT EXAMPLE - We did not miss out on ANY of these recruits!

1. Richmond - Oxford is closer than Knoxville. This one is not over yet.
2. Jack Jones - Ours
3. Kyle Phillips - Undecided
4. Josh Smith - Vandy legacy. His brother is currently on the team.
5. Amadi - VQ said we may have slow played/passed on him
6. Jefferson - Basically said he was scared of the depth of WR at UT
7. McMillon - Doesnt really fit our scheme. Most of his offers wont take him.
8. Sheffield - Dont really remember much about him. I think he may also be a Vandy legacy.
9. Harris - Did not offer him
10. Stewart - Ours
11. Jennings - Ours
12. McGraw - had a handler

#1 is my favorite -like we have never beat ole miss for a Memphis recruit and when we miss out it becomes a distance issue.
