Is Cam Newton better than Tim Tebow?

Please...UF's '07 D was bad against the run and worse against the pass. Stafford and Chad Henne lit us up through the air, and Newton would likely do the same. True frosh Joe Haden got thrown into the fray and got burnt often, and the other corner Pierre-Louis couldn't cover an ant with a beach blanket. No Reggie Nelson playing centerfield either. That defense was easily UF'S worst under Meyer, yet you think they contain Newton?
Look at that AU passage game. All smoke and mirrors trash. That D sucked, butit was better tha this Auburn crew. AU is undefeated because the conference generally sucked and every team had huge flaws. Had 07 UF been in this conference, they'd have played AU in the title game and I'd have taken them. I don't believe AU could have ever gotten them off the field.

AUs D had a time getting mediocre Os off the field this year.

I agree.

I think Fairley would have a field day against the true freshmen Pounceys on UF's o-line. Likewise I think AU's o-line would abuse a UF interior d-line led by career backup Clint Macmillan.

I agree UF would score their fair share of points, but Newton keeping plays alive with his legs would be the difference. I give AU's offense much more credit than you do, and I think you underestimate how bad UF's defense sucked ass that year. Hell, Andre Woodson threw for 415 yards and 5 TDs against UF that year, and he's about as mobile as my 92 year-old grandmother.

I'd probably take 2-loss national champ LSU over this AU team, but not a 4-loss UF team with no pass rush or secondary to speak of.

I hate Tim Tebow but I don't see how Cam better at all

Tebow may have been a better leader, but Newton is the better QB by far. If you ask who is the better "football player," you might get a different response from people though.

Nobody claimed he was the best player ever. I, especially don't believe Tebow was the best player ever, or even close for that matter.

Actually, Mark Howard did the other morning. He clarified it by arguably, but he was ready to argue for Newton's case as the best all time college player.

auburn's oline is unbelievable though. cam never gets touched. much better than florida's.

Cam takes part of the credit for never getting touched. He is very elusive back there which makes his OLine look even better than they are.

I agree.

Teams better score on them in the first half, because their 2nd half defense has been stout. The coaching makes very good adjustments or something, because Auburns 1st half defense compared to their 2nd half defense looks like two different squads.

Or maybe you don't remember Barry Sanders. Cause he didn't have the impact on Ok St that Newton is having on Auburn is now.

You realize what he did in his junior season at OKST don't you? He was like Cam and did not become a starter until his Junior year. He then averaged 7.6 yards per carry and over 200 yards per game as a junior which included rushing for over 300 yards in four games. At the time, he set season records with 2,628 yards rushing, 3,248 total yards, 234 points, 39 touchdowns, of which 37 were rushing (also a record), 5 consecutive 200 yard games, scored at least 2 touchdowns in 11 consecutive games, and 9 times he scored at least 3 touchdowns. None of this includes the holiday bowl stats since bowl stats were not including during his era. He ran for 222 yards and scored 5 touchdowns in the Holiday Bowl and only played for 3 quarters. Sanders won the Heisman Trophy as a Junior and then chose to leave Oklahoma State before his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

Is that how you remembered Sanders in college? I'd say that's a significant impact considering he was OKST's offense that year.

QB is a far more important position than RB.

Depends on the era. You are correct in this current era, but there have been eras in which the RB was a more critical position than the QB. There were also eras in which the QB position was basically a RB.

All those numbers are nice. Especially the part about Barry leading Ok St to the Holiday Bowl. But he still didn't have the impact that Newton had.

Newton would've been the Auburn starter last year. Sanders wasn't riding the pine because he was in JC. He was sitting behind Thomas.

Ok St also had Dykes taken in the first round that year. How many first round picks would Auburn have on offense this year besides Newton?

I can't think of another QB who's had the impact Newton has, running and passing, while leading his team to an undefeated season and a berth in the national title game....and a sure lock as Heisman winner.

Tommie Frazier - couldn't pass
Danny Wuerffel - couldn't run
Charlie Ward - lost at Notre Dame
Chris Weinke - See Danny Wuerffel
Tim Tebow - lost 4 games, Newton a better runner
Vince Young - No Heisman, Newton a better runner and passer
Gino Toretta - no explanation necessary
Eric Crouch - see Gino Toretta

Makes you wonder how good Miss St would have been with Cam.

They would have been better no doubt, but Auburn had pieces in place like Dyer, Fanin, and several talented receivers around Newton that MSU don't have.

Hell, AU's FB might be their best red zone receiver.
