Is Dave Hart inept?

This is a product of Gators,LSU and Bama fans being in UT's administration. The announcement timeline is going to drive yall nuts. i don't give a crap. I will pull for whomever they hire. That coach will get a good roster. Looks like Al Golden has moved to the top of the list. Blah

OK, by "word on the street" you mean you know someone who would know, and that's what they are saying? I mean, I've heard that speculated on the board but it's always "well I think"....Would love to know that it's true.

He means the Volnation message board street:birgits_giggle:

As for me, I addressed that in what I wrote in the original post.

I realize most people would want to hear either "he's fired and I've taken away his orange pants" or "he's staying for another year". For me, it's what I said earlier. I don't expect a conclusion, but fans do deserve some communication.

We are way past the point where the fanbase deserves to hear something from Hart. That doesn't mean he has to act now, it means he needs to acknowledge the fans' concerns and communicate with them. If he really hasn't decided, then he needs to put out a statement saying that he is reviewing and monitoring the situation, that he hears the fans' concerns and takes them seriously, and that he will make a decision at (whenever) time.

I guess I don't really need to hear some generic statement that may end up back firing into a PR disaster as Hamilton regularly did.

It totally makes sense, that what you want him to say is actually happening and more, but for him to come out and say any of that publicly, how does that help the coaches and players prepare for Vandy? He's not publicly backing CDD and he's not causing any distractions.

Just going on what I read in the "Mr. Sec" blog. According to him, seems that Arky is already trying to lock-up Patterson. No need to panic, but there also needs to be a small sense of urgency before all the good coaches are gone.

If we don't get Patterson or Gruden, (or some other big name), I'd rather just stick with Dooley.
stick with Fooley the chiken poop coach... Dear God No.

I don't know Hart but I'm always leery about hiring people that worked for the enemy. He may hit a home run with a coaching hire but I would trust a Tennessee guy as AD a lot more. I would love to see Charles Davis as our AD, he loves UT and he is always very impressive in interviews about UT and the problems UT faces. I'm not saying every position has to be a UT guy but it would be nice to have one somewhere in the program.

No, you stop it. Stop it right now.

He's now resorted to counting the pennies and as we all know this takes a while....poor ol hillbillies, need some money to buy em a real coach

The only reason Hart would care is his $750K salary. Dooley is a lawyer and has more experience as AD than Hart, therefore he is doodling Hart around on a string. If Hart does not man up and fire Dooley, he needs to be ran out of town with Dooley.

I guess all along I've taken some comfort in the notion that Hart would do the right thing here no matter what. But I don't really have anything positive to go on and I have to admit that my faith in him is waning. The more UT fans I talk to, more of them feel the same way.

1) He's had virtually no communication with the fans throughout this whole Fall. He's been like a ghost. I mean not even positive communication, encouraging the fans, making announcements, etc. For all of Hamilton's many many faults, he did communicate with the fans.

2) The fact that he now says - through Dooley - that he hasn't made up his mind is scary. If he doesn't know by now, then he's got issues.

3) He's watching the fanbase unravel, the team spiral downhill (again), and news sources are claiming things that may or not be true, and he just ignores it all. Maybe he's the one fiddling while Rome burns.

4) As much as I want Dooley gone, and I DO WANT HIM GONE, I'm starting to kinda feel sorry for the guy. I mean he's being left to dangle in the wind, having to tell the media about his own job status b/c Hart doesn't seem to have the (foot)balls to do it. It's almost cruel at this point.

The longer this rides out, the higher chance that he will continue to lose the fanbase and then it'll be him that fans are ready to run out of town.

It appears Hart will evaluate this as he sees fit and use whatever timeline he finds necessary (and continue to ignore the hysterical fan base). That is why he was hired and why he is making the big money and not the fans. And let's be honest, the only communication you want from him is that Dooley is out, right? Or if he comes out tomorrow and communicates to you that Dooley is staying would you be happy with him?

my gut tells me they are working a deal with a new coach right now that noone knows about, and then when everything is official they will announce DD is fired..."and now I am proud to introduce to you the next coach of the UT football program...(insert big name hire) Please join me in welcoming him to the UT family!!"

Yes, that is why the bot meeting was held when it was. Cheek was in control and was using money the way he wanted (he does not care about sports). The timing of the bot meeting was not an accident!

Dave Hart has 22 years of AD experience. This is his third AD job.

People need to get a grip around here. Officially pulling the plug on Dooley 10 minutes ago doesn't change our circumstances in acquiring a good coach. Any potential candidate can clearly see that there might be an opportunity coming open. Likewise, those candidates can easily see what job openings would be the best for them (looking at conference, history, facilities, commitment to winning, etc.). If they have interest in Tennessee, they are not going to settle for Kentucky if Tennessee is a possibility. Likewise, it is unlikely that Kentucky offers anybody before the end of the season either. Auburn is in a similar situation to us. They aren't going to officially can Chizik until he loses the Iron Bowl to Bammer. It's been no secret that the Arkansas job was open for the taking when John L. Smith was only given a 10 month contract and took those early season losses. Additionally, nothing is stopping those candidates from using back channels to find out if they are on the potential short list. Good ADs keep a list of interested candidates on hand just in case of the Kiffin style quick exit or the cut-him-loose-because-he-sucks situation. I think we all know Hamilton wasn't a good AD. Have any of you thought, that maybe, Hart isn't in a hurry because he doesn't have to be?

Everybody please take a deep breath, and just let this play out. All of the ranting and raving in the world isn't going to change anything. When the fire/hire or whatever is complete, then we can second guess the whole process just like we always do.

Jumping in a little late here....but to the OP:

1) We don't know yet. At this stage, he deserves the time to make a decision before we rush to judgement. I understand that indecision can sometimes be a decision in and of itself...but this is his first big situation.

2) DH's legacy or lack thereof will most likely stem from how he handles this situation and the decision he makes this year. There's a lot riding on this one.

3) I don't think anyone wants him playing fast and loose with this one. If he is holding his cards close to his chest, getting his ducks in a row and does it right (how many more management buzzphrases could I fit into this one?) I'll appreciate his silence.

4) Some folks believe that by keeping mum on the CDD situation, it is keeping the press on CDD and not the new hire. There may be truth to that.

5) An AD's position and decisions shouldn't be judged quickly because it may take months or years to seem them come to full fruition.

Basically, let's play this out before any snap judgements. The guy may be inept and he may be brilliantly crafting something we will come to appreciate in the coming months and years...still too early to tell.

I can't make much of a comment about this, but I was at the game last week and there were several fans around me who where season ticket holders, whom many of which said they would be calling the office this morning to make their voice heard.

Now, I'm not saying I could do it better, but I am saying that if I was Dave Hart right now and my phone was blowing up every 5 min from big money boosters, then I would get the crap on a roll and Dooley out. There are a lot of fans and boosters who are tired of this mess.

But I will always be a Vol Fan For Life

Please Dave Hart, pick up the damn phone; call DD and tell him his services are no longer needed next season and lets get this big name coach in here NOW!!!!!

Lol. Ticked the devil off a lot, I'm sure. Just never had him give me the finger. I knew I'd get flamed for saying what I said, but really, what good does it do to fire Derek Dooley and hire the likes of Tommy Tubberville? It just seems to me if we are not seriously committed to establishing UT as a national power again, then keep Dooley, (and 5 million dollars), and just resign ourselves to the fact that we will suck forever, (pardon my language).

Dooley's in over his head, but bringing in another average coach is not going to correct the problems that UT has at this present time.

Is getting beat by the 6th best team in the ACC in the "We're 6-6 and both suck Bowl" really the kind of national exposure we need right now?

Sitting home and not getting any exposure is better? What about, a new coach comes in, has three weeks of practice to adjust to the team and vice versa. Is that a bad thing?

I don't want Tubberville, but he is hardly "average". He had an undefeated season at Auburn and beat bammer 6 straight years, including quite a few he was not supposed to win.
