Is Finebaum a UT fan, a UT hater or something else?

May have already been said but I think he is an opportunist. He will say what he needs to say to keep his numbers the highest. He is a media whore.

He’s something else. He’s media, he’s a proud alum when we are winning, and he’s a Saban d*** rider when we aren’t.

Been following Finebaum since the 90’s he’s never really changed. He was very critical of Bama back then when they were going thru coaches like toilet paper and on probation. He plays to his crowd much like Jerry Springer his crazy callers made him famous as much as anything.
It’s a simple formula. He basically pulls the fire alarm at Walmart and then comments on the reaction which he created in the first place.

He says what makes him popular. I hate him
Lol I really don't hate him but I do ignore the man. You pretty well nailed his popularity. But still how does one of the least visually attractive men on the planet ( ugliest)with nothing other than personal opinion make so much money? I say the description ---- with ears describes his look.

He lives in Alabama. His show is taped in Alabama. He’s aware of how hated UT is in Alabama and doesn’t want to encourage the Harvey Updyke’s of the world to harass him where he lives. You don’t have to be a homer for wherever you went to school if it would affect your livelihood.

He did live in Bhm when he did his radio show on a local station, that was also picked up by XM radio which gave him national pub. He now lives in Charlotte, NC where the SECNW is based and taped.

As stated by others, he worked for the Daily Beacon and discovered early on that writing inflammatory type articles was gold in readership. One of his journal hero's is Adams of the Knox times. That should tell you a lot.

Agree, he plays to his audience.

Keep in mind he was pretty giddy last year when Tennessee beat Alabama and pushed the narrative of Saban losing his touch. He even did the whole coffin thing on SEC Network.

Still the guy is about $$$ and not about favoritism to a school. He is what he is. I do like the comment about him being the Jerry Springer of CFB because that basically sums up what made him famous.

Interestingly that two of the biggest trolls/announcers in the sport are Tennessee graduates (Paul Finebaum and Clay Travis). Travis has double-down into the political side though.

I'm not really fond of him, but it more so has to do with how odd he comes across. Not sure why he has as much success as he does. To me, he doesn't seem really talented at what he does. He actually seems kind of akward and states the obvious alot. Is it becuase he has been doing what he has the longest and caters to the biggest programs?

I find it really odd how he rode Tennessee's last year when we were successful. He told everyone he was an alumnus and spoke glowingly about the program. But one reloading year, and he has dropped us from relevancy really quickly.

You are right. In fact, he's not very good or very talented--I've had some experience with him. But he's managed to hang around owing to his long background in the SEC.

Not true at all, he lives outside of Charlotte and the SEC Network studio is in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte.

We met him at at dinner on Friday before the Georgia game. He was such a nice person and spent time talking with everyone who approached him. He was great with my high school son and UT sophomore as they taught him how to do the VOL hand sign. Like him or not, he has a job to do and really helps the whole SEC in the long run. Clay Travis never attended UT. Closest he got was Vandy

I feel like he's one of those in the media that goes out of his way to make it seem like he's not biased towards his alma mater, which ultimately makes him hate on us more than others.

The existence of these threads is evidence of his skill with his media approach. His show is a conversation starter. That makes it a must-watch for certain fans.
He doesn't hate UT.
Most of what he says about the VOLS is an accurate reflection of what we are already saying about our program in the forums.

It is simply more embarrassing to hear our gripes coming from outsiders.
He embarrasses us and we resent that, but I bet his staff is reading fan forums for material daily. They see a pressure point in the fanbases and poke them. The reaction creates buzz. Buzz makes good TV.
