Is Georgia really as good as people are giving them credit for?

This year? No. Their TEs scare me but Bamas Secondary is better IMO. I think it will be tougher to run on them. I think this TN defense surprises folks and forces a few TOs. I can see a quick TD drive to shut that crowd up and think Georgia ends up down a few scores and never recovers. Were 10-12 pts better

We played the number 1 defense and I think Bama has a better offense. We shall see come Saturday. I think bama beats them right now.

I have a feeling we will be playing the refs and GA. If we get the crew that reffed the GA/FL game, it will be tough.

I hope they keep doubting us.

Honestly they’re good but they’re not as good as their stats lead people to think.

They’ve faced less resistance whereas we have been tested multiple times.

Their offense is not as good as Bama’s and for the most part, Bryce Young willed Bama to making that game close, but there were also a few missed TDs by us that would’ve made the game not as close as it was. Same with FL.

If the offense shows up like the LSU game and the defense plays like they did this past Saturday, UGA can’t beat us.

I have no faith in Stetson Bennett beating Hooker in a shoot especially when their best receiver is a TE, at some point that will become a liability.

Yes, they are good, but ...

we are good too, and for the first time in a few years I think we can match them toe to toe in the trenches, I think our OL and DL are their equals or better which is where this game is going to be won or lost. Their TE’s are going to be a hard matchup for us and we’ll have our hands full there. Everywhere else we can complete pretty level if we play mistake free.

Go Vols !!!

I think Georgia has an extremely talented team that really doesn't have any weak spots on D and the only issue I would have with their O is that they are lacking that NFL first round WR (like Pickens from last year). To me it's between them an Ohio State for the best team. But being the best team doesn't mean you can't be upset. If we bring our A game, we can cause Georgia some problems and could pull of the upset in Athens this weekend. It will be a huge challenge but one our players and coaches have been preparing for since the Music City Bowl ended last year.

It's the defending national champions. They are loaded with talent, and they are well coached, but they look lackadaisical at times this year, but they are able to crush anyone they play. The defense from the Kentucky game and the Offense from Alabama. Bring that and it's a W all day.

The Volunteers defense playing like they did in the Kentucky game can make Bowers fumble, and create turnovers.

They are good, but they aren’t world beaters. They beat Bama in the natty, but Bama was down Williams and Metchie (or however you spell his last name). Bama would’ve dismantled them again if they had at least 1 of their starting WRs.

We have all our WRs back and looking healthy and they aren’t as good this year.

Georgia will be dialed in for us. We will get their best game. JH will get the matchups he wants. The players will execute the plan. Vols win by double digit.

I feel like with all these threads trying to downplay UGAs record is wishful thinking at its finest.

I would highly agree because the Volunteers are going to have play a great game to defeat the Bulldogs in Georgia.
The Volunteers are most likely going to have use long drives to score points, the thundering crowd in Georgia will be a challenging flaw, Bowers is a great TE equal to the Hurricanes TE Shockey, and only the Missouri Tigers had a realistic chance to defeat the Bulldogs in the 4th quarter of what was a thrilling close game.

The other 7 games the Bulldogs won were undramatic games that the Gators, Auburn Tigers, Gamecocks and other teams had no realistic chance of winning since the Bulldogs had a high lead.

They aren't nearly as good as they were last year. They've just had a beneficial schedule to make it appear so. Even then their defense isn't what it was last season. Florida scored 17 straight points against them in the 3rd quarter to make it 28-20. It would have been 21-20 but just before the half ended Georgia's wide receiver pushed off massively and blatantly but to the shock of everyone watching, and after the announcers and the rules expert had declared it clear offensive PI they called it on Florida and gifted UGA the ball inside the 10.

Are they as good as advertised? Well, they are the defending champs. Until you beat them....well.

Also, last year was a beating. 41-17 I believe.
We are at Georgia, I wouldn't expect the refs to be on our side.

Please hear me out on this and my reasoning for asking the question that I have.

For SEC games, Georgia has played the #6 (Missouri), #10 (USCjr), #11t (Auburn & Florida), and #14 (Vanderbilt) defenses to get to their #3 offense rating at 43.1 Pts/Game average. They have also faced the #8 (USCjr), #9 (Florida), #10 (Vanderbilt), #11 (Missouri), #13 (Auburn) offenses to get to their #1 defense rating and 10.5 points against total.

I'm not saying that they are not good, just that I am not sure that they have been up against anything really challenging. For comparison sake, Tennessee has faced the #2(Alabama), #3(Kentucky), #5(LSU), and #11(Florida) defenses to get our #1 offence rating at 49.4 Pts/Game average. We have also faced #2(Alabama), #5(LSU), #9(Florida), and #11(Kentucky) offenses for our #4 defense rating and our 21 points against total.

Again, not saying that they are not good......just don't know if they are as great as everyone in the media are making them out to be. If we play like we have in the three SEC games (LSU, Alabama, and UK) we should be able to leave Athens at 9-0. Just my observations.

(Stats were from the Saturday Down South Offense and Defense charts)
Please put down the crack pipe

I’m assuming that embarrassing 41-17 loss to a great Bulldogs team in Rocky Top is being talked about before this game.

I’m realistically hopeful that the number 2 Volunteers defeat the number 1 Bulldogs in Georgia this Saturday by playing great.

Bottom line is they are a great team. Well coached, talent rich, and seasoned.
We however are also very well coached, have ample talent, but most importantly have come together as a team and are playing at an incredibly high level and in truth above our expectations. This belief, “buy in”, and team first mentality is a weapon. If we play the kind of game we are capable of, Georgia will have their hands full.
My wish is to see them give their all, capitalize on any mistakes, and make them take and respond to our punches. If we play this way we can win this game. Make GA earn every shred of their reputation, if we do this we win not only the game but respect.

What's funny is we are hearing the same thing from Georgia fans that we heard from LSU, Alabama and Kentucky fans.

- "They have a terrible defense, we will gash them."
- "We have a top 10 defense in CFB, we can stop that gimmick offense."

It's seriously the same exact arguments, and I get it. I had the same feeling during Urban Meyer's first two years at Florida. Tennessee is finally on the cutting edge of the "next big thing" and it's going to drive our opponents crazy until 2024... when they finally admit the Heupel offense is legit.

I don't know if Tennessee will beat Georgia, but the fact that their fans feel the same way about our offense as everyone else we've played, makes me feel a bit more confident that Tennessee will pull it off.
