You’re the most reasonable person who agrees with that, but I don’t understand how you get around the constitution and what it says about what they were trying to do.I agree.
I agree that the EC elects the POTUS. I don't believe any 1/6 rioter seriously thought they were overthrowing the government. I believe they should be criminally prosecuted if they broke the law. You’re the most reasonable person who agrees with that, but I don’t understand how you get around the constitution and what it says about what they were trying to do.
In my view, they were trying to have the VP take some unilateral action to ensure that the actual loser of the election remained the head of the executive branch of government.
In my view, our constitution doesn’t empower the VP to select the president. Our constitution vests the power of selecting the president to the electoral college and delegates decisions regarding the composition of the EC to the states.
Do you agree with that? If not, what do you disagree with and how do you see it?
If so, how is a government where the VP and/or fake EC votes decide the head of the executive branch the same as our current government?
Ok. Fair enough, I think we’re probably closer than I thought based on your post.I agree that the EC elects the POTUS. I don't believe any 1/6 rioter seriously thought they were overthrowing the government. I believe they should be criminally prosecuted if they broke the law.
House GOP rolls out 'first come, first served' access to Jan. 6 Footage
House Republicans released a policy on Friday regarding security footage from the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol that allows "first come, first served" access for qualified people.
Starting this month, according to guidance by the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, representatives of U.S. news outlets, defendants charged with crimes related to Jan. 6 and their counsels, and those who were physically harmed during the siege and their counsels will be allowed to view the Capitol security footage from Jan. 5 and 6, 2021.

Do you honestly think those people thought they could actually overthrow the government? I mean seriously. You are giving way too much intelligence to those idiots. I would bet anything that maybe a small few thought the plan would actually work. I think the vast majority did what they did as an attention getting scheme and nothing more. The whole characterization as this being some kind of horrible attack on democracy is just liberal gaslighting.Ok. Fair enough, I think we’re probably closer than I thought based on your post.
I agree that the individuals were the ones most responsible for their actions. (I.e. Trump not criminally responsible for the riot).
I believe their actions were acts in furtherance of a conspiracy to overthrow the government as described in prior post.
I just think whether they had sufficient comprehension or intent to be said to have attempted to overthrow the government is probably an individual determination. I think there are some that likely did, especially since I think Trump told them so in his speech, but probably not very many. There are fewer cases where it could actually be proven and my definition of overthrowing the government is pretty technical and I think comprehension of what they were doing should be considered so that makes it lower as this particular group and “comprehension” don’t often belong in the same sentence.
It doesn’t matter if they thought it would work. It was part of a plan to overthrow the government, as I’ve already explained. It isn’t like the riot was the only part of the plan, so the idea that none of them thought it would work is dumb. The number that knew that the plan was to keep Trump as president is pretty high, Trump told them that was the plan in his speech. Those that understood that he lost and that installing him as an unelected executive was an overthrow of the government is almost certainly >0, particularly with all the references to 1776.Do you honestly think those people thought they could actually overthrow the government? The judges who are hammering these clowns with some pretty heavy prison sentences don’t seem to think it’s gaslighting. Seems to me they are taking it pretty seriously. If it was attention they were seeking, they might just get some in prison that they weren’t looking for.Do you honestly think those people thought they could actually overthrow the government?
