I don't think you'll find too many people who will argue about the majority of your first paragraph, especially about national exposure, but everything else has been spotty at best.

Recruiting: This year certainly looks like a hell of an improvement but, up this point, it's hardly something you can hang your hat on. He's gotten higher profile players, they just happen to be the kind that don't last more then 2 years, and it ain't because they're getting drafted. Our rotation this year alone shows that he hasn't exactly been stocking up on quality depth.

X's and O's: I've gone on record already this year about commending Bruce for the improvement in our half court D this year but, prior to this season, it is was horrific. Unfortunately, the improvement on O in the half court has not shown up yet. I haven't seen every game this year but I've seen most and the MSU game was the only one I remembered seeing that even looked like we had plays to run on O.

Turning a blind eye to some of our obvious deficiencies is just as ridiculous as the people you rail against for, in your opinion, not acknowledging any of the positives. People speak in extreme hyperbole and act as if there's no way to notice that, just like most coaches, there is such a thing as a positive and negative column for Pearl. Does that mean he should go now? Hell no. Does it mean that he should have a shrine built and have a lifetime contract where only he gets to determine when he leaves UT because of what he has done so far? Well I probably don't need to answer that one.

I hardly ever post on there so I'm sure this will probably just get passed over but this continued round and round has been getting ridiculous and I felt like I wanted to contribute my own, worthless, two cents.

Just enjoy the ride. If it doesn't get better then it will end. But for now, it's looking like the best game in town. Enjoy! :salute::salute::salute:

The reason people appear to be bashing Pearl is because of others trying to compare his first five years to the first five years of guys that are all-time coaching legends and projecting him to have that kind of success. It's absurd.

Yes we have won 20 games in a season before Pearl became head coach. But we havent been able to sustain that level of success on a consistent basis within the last 2 decades until Pearl arrived.

I still love how there is all this Pearl bashing goin on......the man inherited a terrible basketball program. His first year was absolutely amazing....not much talent at all and he took us to the sweet 16. We have made it to the tournament all 5 years he has coached. ROY WILLIAMS walked into five star talent. BILL SELF walked into 5 star talent.....COACH K hell it took him a long time to build Duke up to a relevant program. It has taken Bruce Pearl 5 years to build a top 25 team every year. I'm sorry, but if i do remember correctly we had Ohio State by 19 in the second half and they came back. If we would have won this there prob would be zero *****ing....just whining and complaining about we should do this or should do that. I'm tired of the Pearl bashing. If you don't like Pearl then quit rooting for UT. His heart is 110% in the Tennessee program. We are ranked in the top 15 this year without our best player Tyler Smith. We lost 4 to a traffic stop although three are back now. We beat two number one ranked teams in the nation. NO ONE has done that this year. So i guess you should continue to bash Bruce Pearl. After all he does have a top 5 recruiting class this year and already has one for the year after. YOU SO CALLED VOL FANS never cease to amaze me. The man has put 22K in Thompson Boling for five years. Tennessee will make it past the sweet 16, but i wont be the one to say i told you so. The man can win with scrubs and walk ons. I guess i'm just sick of you all that ***** moan and cry over Pearl playing his son and not winning enough games. NEWSFLASH....we are pretty damn good this year people. 23-7 is pretty solid if you ask me. Bruce Pearl will win a national championship before his career is over.....WRITE IT DOWN.

I agree with all of this. Pearl has been awesome for Vols BB. It is idiotic to criticize him IMO.

Pearl has done a great job at UT. The problem starts with idiotic comparisons to Coach K, Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim, Jim Calhoun, Bob Knight and other coaching legends.

People invent ways to compare Pearl to all-time greats because that's what they want him to turn into, when in reality one has nothing to do with the other.

Pearl could just as easily flame out, leave for another school or lead UT into a national power. Hopefully it's leading UT to a national power but finding ways to compare him to all-time greats won't make it happen.

And for the record I hope the best is to come for UT, whether it's Pearl or someone else.
