Is the best of Bruce yet to come?

Neither will finding ways to discredit the success he has already had at Tennessee.

How is it discrediting Pearl to say what he has done at UT has been done before?

To me, many people are discrediting the history of the basketball program and it's previous coaches by acting like we never made the Sweet 16, won the SEC or went to the NCAA Tournament before Bruce.

I hope he gets us past the Sweet 16, wins more SEC Titles, wins a national title and all those things because I love UT and want UT to succeed.

I've learned with the Kiffin stuff, Fulmer and others that I'm more concerned with loving the program than the coach.

The program is bigger than Pearl or anyone else. If he's the one that can get us over the hump awesome, if not there are others, at his salary that can.

Becasue he was fired after 4 straight seasons (despite similiar success in the post season). So perhaps the 20+ straight season records are not such a big deal.

Well if thats the case then lets just bring back sweet sixteen Jerry Green and see how many vol fans will be complaining then.

So basically go undefeated every year and get to the elite 8. got it.

He was only talking about not getting killed by teams we should beat. That's why he listed UGA and USC. A team worthy of a top 15 ranking shouldn't get blown out by the likes of those two.

Notice how I said more on court results. Such as, fewer losses to teams like Georgia and USC

You never want to lose those games but it's a long season and that stuff like that happens to most teams during the regular season.

That's never been too big a complaint for me because he wins a large share of big regular season games as well.

Except that Southern Cal game was inexcusable.

cant coach are you kidding me. We are the only team to beat a number one and a number two ranked team in the same year. I cant believe some of these stupid quotes you people are saying.

If you watch our offense and think "Man, now that's an offense of a guy that can really coach," then you know little to nothing about basketball.

I agree he has to be joking....I bet he would tell you the opposite regarding Cal.

Nope ... not joking. Cal is not a "coach" either. I would say that Pearl is actually a better coach than Cal, but Cal gets better players and talent. Neither one knows X's and O's very well at all. It's obvious. I'm not saying that it doesn't mean that they can have some teams that do well. Talent can mask a lot of other things including coaching ... up to a point.

I have had a lot of forum conversation with Voldad (also known as "hatvol disciple"). It isnt that he isnt a fan or that he hates Pearl he just follows the opinions/views of hatvol who has a unrealistic view of college sports. These two seem to believe that Pearl should have walked into this bball program which was on life support and taken it to the final four the first year he was coach. They have yet to figure out that solid basketball programs are built not just thrown together. Sure sometimes coaches get lucky with the right personnel and coaching but for the most part it takes time to gain the type of consistency and national recognition that gets you playing to the level of competitivenss that you need to win a NC. Pearl is bringing us consistency.... most importantly in winning, but I also see him bringing consistency in recruiting where we are landing more blue chip athletes. Do I even need to talk about the national recognition issue. What Pearl has done for UT bball in regards to national recognition is remarkable. Just think five years ago the only thing on ESPN about UT bball was about the Lady Vols. Now we have one of the best venues in the country to televise a bball game and are beating beating the number 1 and 2 teams in the nation in the same season on national television.

So while Voldad and Hatvol talk about the coaching aspect and how Pearl should call games differently or switch out personnell (which by their posts its obvious they dont understand X's and O's), they fail to focus on the fact that Pearl continues to lay building blocks to a solid program's foundation. In other words its obvious to most of us that Pearl is a guy who needs no defense, is doing a remarkable job, and 99.9% of coaches out there couldnt do it any better.

How can you talk about anyone here when you say that 99.9 percent of other coaches couldn't have done better. Surely you don't actually believe this.

At UMass, Calipari took a team previously in a NCAA drought to its first NCAA tournament in 30 years, in 1992. In the next few seasons, Calipari would take the team to new heights, like the Sweet Sixteen (1992) and the Elite Eight (1995), as well as No. 1 rankings in the AP weekly poll. In 1996, a rare trip to the Final Four.

They didn't have elite talent.

Nope. Just looked in the record books and none of this ever happened.

I guess you conveniently overlooked his last sentence.

I didn't miss anything. He added that to his post after I had already posted. :eek:k:

I did add it. There was really no excuse for that terrible loss but like I said he's won more than a few big games so that's not a big deal especially considering we beat UK and Kansas this year.

Yeah, Marcus Camby was awful.

Calipari had players that matched his style which is all that really matters in college basketball. If you watch his Kentucky, Memphis, Nets, or UMass teams, none of them had an offense worth a crap. Defense is all about effort ... little coaching is involved with defense in terms of X's and O's. So, I still don't see your point.

Like I said, you can make deep runs in the tournament and not be a very good coach. Calipari is the epitome of that.

Would rather win a national championship with Pearl five years from now than a NC next year with anyone else.

The man puts on for UT. I really can't understand how people dislike him as a person, especially those in Big Orange Country.

With the haters we have, our fanbase is probably top three dumbest in the nation.
