I have had the privilege of going to Israel, and working with elements of the IDF. While I don't pretend to having flown at the altitude necessary to know what goes on at the highest levels, I can tell you that the IDF...especially their fighter pilots and specialized units...are trouble you don't want to experience.
You're on the mark with your opinion of the Israelis. They're not perfect. They have their radical elements at both ends of the spectrum, same as we do. Yes, they have liberals. But when push comes to shove, you have never seen the likes of how that nation comes together as one; rolls up their sleeves; mans their tanks; chambers a round; and gets right down to business. Those folks know how to fight.
So my often posted references to "The Israeli Model" are based on firsthand knowledge of how when they have a problem, they are very, very good at identifying the root cause; and addressing it in a manner that all but assures it will not be an issue in the future. If it were not for their genuine concern over civilian casualties, Hamas would have been eradicated years ago. Yes, the Israelis have morals.
I'll say this: Years ago, Palestinians started attacking Israeli schools. They killed a large number of children before Israel finally decided "enough", and did what they do best.
You remember reading about an attack on an Israeli school recently? Maybe a mortar or rocket attack, but the Palestinians / Hamas / whoever have learned that if they get close to an Israeli school, they die in the parking lot.
And that's my point when I go on my rants on other threads. The only thing a bully understands is fear.
The Israelis get it. Lord, how I wish we did.
