Is this CBP best coaching job?

i cant wait till he gets harris ,mcrae and golden ,some other top notch recruits, like hopefully cothren and kevin ware and chris jones and hopefully adonis thomas and amir williams and hopefully kentavious caldwell oy kendren johnson or ky madden 2012 recruits jp tokoto, and jordon price and jarnell stoaks with this groupe of guys and kenny hall, and jerron maymon as senior and if harris hangs around this would be best tennessee team ever.coach bruce pearl should put alot of effort in to recruiting these guys 4 or 5 instate players and a bunch that are not to far away except for amir williams who is from country day in detroit michigan but he is interested in the vols and so are the others recruit others too but put more into these for 2011 and 2012 we can win a tital or two with most of these recruits

Now that is one long sentence.

How many guys do you have on that bench? Fifteen?

You're right.

No coach would want to make $2 million and have pretty much uncapped resources and tremendous facilities in a big-time BCS conference.

That would just be such a terrible job.

Apparently you don't remember when we hired Pearl. There were several so-called big name coaches who had no interest in the TN job. You need to get real man. Even KY had to pay a ransom to get Cal. Many other top name coaches turned them down. Name me just two coaches we could get for the 2 million you refer to.

This is the rebuttal I expected. " No one wants to be here. We can't get anyone else. BP is a god."

You hit two out out of three, and I'm guessing the third is implied.

yeah, i'd be fine if pearl was fired. my criticisms of him go way past any "irrational kid after an upsetting loss". my criticism of pearl has been explained over and over... clearly and with evidence. even in the thread referenced, i made multiple posts supporting my position that pearl is no moses.

i'm generally long winded but i'll try to sum up quickly....

pearl has no damn clue how to teach half-court offensive. if you are pathetic in the half-court set... you have little to no chance of a deep tourney run. our team still looks lost about half the time versus a zone and they've seen it how many times this year? pearl's flex offense is a well known joke.

player development is terrible. our players continue to make the same stupid decisions on the court. how does a team with such a bad 3 point % continue to jack up 15+ a game? after 3 years under pearl, it's still a 50/50 gamble having JP in the game with less than 3 min left. there is generally little to no improvement from season start to season end. in fact, we usually look better in late january than we do in march.

pearl is no motivator at all. for 2 years now our team only gives 110% when they feel like it. their effort has been disgusting way to often to give pearl any credit at all as a motivator. pearl doesn't want to coach effort. he said it himself. so our players only show up and give 110% when the feel like it.

pearl's "thing" is supposed to be pressure defense. for 2 years now he can't get his teams to press. he has admitted himself in post game interviews. he can't get the players he recruited to play the style he is known for. the kids didn't know they were going to be pressing full court and "puking in buckets" during practice when they signed? good coaches MAKE players play their system.

in 5 years, 5 players have been dismissed from the team. wingate, passley, duke, ramar, tyler.... (i think i'm even leaving out someone?) this is completely out of control. our players lack discipline on and off the court... and it shows.

again, pearl's enthusiasm has re-energized UT bball. no one is disputing that. but we now need a great COACH to get us on a level with KU, UNC, Duke, UCLA, Mich. St, UK, UCONN, and Syracuse. or we can be satified with losing to powerhouse athletic programs like vandy once or twice year and then dancing in the streets with a 3rd round loss in the tourney. at least we'll get that random "big win" every couple years.

i wonder if pearl would still be the coach if he hadn't inherited Jujuan Smith and Chris Lofton. I'm 100% sure what we've seen the last 2 years is what we would've seen the first 3 years if it hadn't been for Lofton. pearl owes his great start at UT to Chris Lofton.

As usual, you are guessing incorrectly. It's a simple question, who are these great coaches that we can get for the 2 million we pay Pearl? If you have no answer, simply acknowledge that.

You certainly are correct about being long winded. I agree with you on the half-court offense. It leaves much to be desired. I also somewhat agree that we should have players recruited that can play the system. Most of your other comments are useless and false.

I'm sure we would not have 5 20+ win seasons if he hadn't inherited a walk-on player and another player that wasn't recruited by any other major basketball school.

Depends on when the job was open for the 5,000,000,000,000eth time.

We reached all the way down to Milwaukee to bring Pearl here. I would be surprised if you knew that he existed before he was hired. Yet he seems to have done a good job. You seem to love him, he energized the program, the media loves him, and he has certainly had regular season success.

You are delusional if you think that there is nobody between the Milwaukee’s of the world and the UNC’s who would be willing to take the job, and could have more post season success that Pearl.

You and the “Who ya gonna get” crowd have such a myopic view and hard-on for someone that you didn’t know existed 6 years ago.

I think it's worth noting that according to a coach's salary link that someone posted on here, Roy Williams makes $2 million per year. Pearl's salary averages $2.2 million. That should put it in perspective.

I'm sure a lot of coaches could do what Pearl has done in a short time. I agree that it is impressive. However, it is highly delusional to suggest that he is the only coach that could do what he has done.

PS Remind me of all of our Final Four appearances in this five year stretch...oh wait.

That sounds more like Roy Williams' problem to me.

No, it shows that we are paying elite money to our basketball coach.

And that's a good thing, shows a commitment to the program. I see where this is heading and don't have much of a desire to get into the whole salary debate again. Another day, another time. Big game coming up.

Agreed. Just pointing out that when you pay elite money, it's not unreasonable to expect elite results.

bruce pearl has Chris Lofton to thank for his 2.2 mil per year.

cuz without someone draining insane 3's night after night.... this team looks terrible on offense. we don't make any sweet 16's or get a #1 ranking without Lofton on the court.

thanks to Lofton and Pearl's energetic promotional skills, people love the great motivator. most can't see through the facade.

I find it interesting that when a question is asked about who are the "great" coaches that would come to TN, you suddenly become a Pearl lover and are saying he is the only coach that could do what he has done. Show me in my post where I gave any indication of being a Pearl lover and where I said anything about he being the only coach who could do what he has done. There are numberous coaches that could do what he has done and could exceed what he has done. The question you want to continue to ignore is---could we get them to come to TN?

I did know he existed as his previous team had some success in the tournament as a mid-major prior to his coming to TN. If you watched or kept up with the NCAA tournament, I'm surprised you did not know he existed. Was I surprised when he was hired at UT---yes. I can acknowledge that he has done a good job without being a Pearl "lover' as you and many others want to label anyone who acknowleges any success he has had. You can avoid the obvious question by resorting to labeling anyone who asks who the great coaches we can get are by calling me part of the "Who ya gonna get" crowd. You can't answer the question so why don't you acknowledge it without resording to labeling others or calling them Pearl lovers.
Our recent hiring of Pearl and now Dooley seems to indicate that we are not at the top of the list of all the great coaches who are looking to come here. If you disagree, try answering the question by indicating who all these great coaches are that we could get. You seem to be the one who is actually delusional.
