Is this CBP best coaching job?

Who is calling for his job?

I think this link works. If not, I pasted the text below it.

http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-basketball/89748-end-bruce-pearl-era.html

"i'd say the handwriting started appearing on the wall in the loss to arkansas in the 07-08 SEC tourney. the pathetic, disappointing tourney play (with the PG fiasco) secretly foreshadowed the beginning of the end.

today put the period on the sentence.

Bruce brought the program back to life with his passion and energy. Now we need a real coach to take us to the promise land."

You managed to find the needle in the haystack. Which happened to be an irrational, emotional kid after an embarrassing loss. Like I said, congrats.

How many examples do you need? I mean, I don't have all day, but surely you can review and read between the lines.

I don't get it: a user asked for an example of someone who called for CBP's job; I obliged; then you come along and for all intents and purposes claim my example doesn't count. What am I missing?

Apparently, you are missing where I said congratulations.

You're going to use one nut who let the emotions of a loss get to him?

Fair enough.

I can't believe I'm bowing to you guys on this. Anyway, here's VolDad's take (I hope I linked it correctly). For the record, I am using VolDad as an example because I think he is one of the more sensible users on here and tries to be as fair as possible.

In response to someone who posted that he was "pulling for pearl to get it together and make a run", VolDad responded:

Everyone wants that. History and a perceived inability to make changes/adjustments do not leave me as optimistic as you.

In response to a user who wrote, "not a coach better than pearl!" (sic), VolDad responded:

Share what you know about the situation that we don't?

In response to another user who posted some random, pessimistic BS about coaches, VolDad responded:

I on the other hand am optimistic that if Pearl cannot take us to the next level then there is someone out there who can.

Is there an explicit comment saying, "Fire Pearl"? No. Is there enough circumstantial evidence allowing a reasonable person to infer that someone else should be brought to coach basketball at Tennessee? Sure! But you can't have two head coaches, so what is the likely result?

I agree with VolDad, but I am not saying "fire Pearl." just saying if he can't get the job done, then I am sure there is someone out there who can.

So with criticism of the Coach, we actually want him replaced?

Most of the arguments that you claim are hidden inferences from us are replies to the people, and I use the word people loosely, who claim that we couldn't get anyone else. The "who ye gona git" crowd.

I hope he wins and wins big. And then he will actually be in the running for the jobs he has the Pump's sniff around for him. That way I get what I want, and he does too. I despise the guy, but in the end I want him to be successful here. Do I think he can take us there? No, but that doesn't mean I'm saying fire the guy, yet.

Seriously? It didn't link? Argh...

Oh, nvm, I just now saw your post in there.

But the question remains: if there is someone better out there, why aren't we pursuing that person or making the job open? Doesn't that necessitate the firing of CBP?
Nope. It means we are giving Pearl ample time to show improvement, which I hope he does.

You make a really sensible point, and I appreciate your insight. I just can't square how you can despise a coach, but not want him fired? I mean, I despised W, and I am supremely confident that I wanted him fired! :p

How does every single thread end up being a contest and tiring debate about Pearl. This thread started with nothing negative about Pearl, yet ends with the endless argument about Pearl's performance. You folks who constantly post on every thread that it is somehow a bashing of Pearl need to get a life or at least discuss something else.

And, just because I'm curious, at what point did you realize you really couldn't stand him, if you can recall? Was it a certain game, or a presser, etc.?

What do you mean "you folks?" :)

(I know, that's not exactly how it goes, but I'm punchy and don't care.)

It would not be in the best interest of our program to fire him now. So yes, I can despise him without saying fire him now.

People just need to realize for the money we pay, we would easily get someone to put us over that hump and build off the successes BP has had here.

Yea, our football search proved we can get about any big name coach we want. They don't want to coach our football team, but they would beat the door down to get to coach our basketball team with all the long-term success our program has had and all those SEC and National Championships banners hanging from TBA.

Yea considering it was a prime time to hire a football coach.

I will just go ahead and make you Secretary of the Who Ye Gona Git Club.

You're right.

No coach would want to make $2 million and have pretty much uncapped resources and tremendous facilities in a big-time BCS conference.

That would just be such a terrible job.

Btw, I think it's fine to criticize coaches. I, for one, would like to see Pearl focus more on the team's footwork and free throws. I don't recall ever being impressed by any of his team's free throw shooting percentages. Granted, there were some players who were knocking down 80+%, but those days are long gone.

i cant wait till he gets harris ,mcrae and golden ,some other top notch recruits, like hopefully cothren and kevin ware and chris jones and hopefully adonis thomas and amir williams and hopefully kentavious caldwell oy kendren johnson or ky madden 2012 recruits jp tokoto, and jordon price and jarnell stoaks with this groupe of guys and kenny hall, and jerron maymon as senior and if harris hangs around this would be best tennessee team ever.coach bruce pearl should put alot of effort in to recruiting these guys 4 or 5 instate players and a bunch that are not to far away except for amir williams who is from country day in detroit michigan but he is interested in the vols and so are the others recruit others too but put more into these for 2011 and 2012 we can win a tital or two with most of these recruits
